this thread is for new players who have game questions that the Pros can anwser.

examples

Question

how do i make a Provoke macro?

Anwser

/ja "Provoke"

how do i make a Cure macro?

Anwser

/ma "Cure"

Question

how do i get crystals so i can craft without buying them?

Anwser

going to your home nation and talk to a gate guard. there easilly noticable because they have a diffrent name then other NPC (like in windy all gate guards have W.W in there name). talk to them and pick the option "Would you cast signet on me" now when you kill monsters you have a greater chance to get crystals. also when you reach the town of Jueno any gate guard wil lalso cast signet on you.

this thread is designed so that a large group of xbox 360 players can ask and have there questions anwsered all in one thread. all questions welcome and hopefully will be anwsered. no one knows everything but combined theres nothing we cannot anwser about FFXI.

youll never know the anwser until you ask the question

Hey whats up guys, my play online name is "Wendigo" and my xboxlive tag is: EoE Wendigo4 I'm new to FFXI and FF series in general.

I started as a WHTMAG thinking it would be fun to be the support guy after being level seven once then being level 6; 5 different times in one day i got pretty tired of partying up with newbz (I'm one too, but I'm quick on the up take) and them not using all the i.e. skills to finish the mob and i end up using mp on them, they die, i die, i lose level pretty not fun...

Now I went back to my Moghouse and switched my job to BLKMAG and got to level 4 in about an hour and a half soloing it up by the start of the river left of the East Ronfaure gate. I think I'll stick to the BLKMAG for now so atleast I can fend for myself and be a tad less reliant like the WHTMAG.

Questions:

1. I've seen people walking around whith character's that read lvl BLKMAG9/SUMM4 at which level can you get a sub-job and where and how do you get one? Thank you, Wendigo

2. For a BLKMAG what gear pre lvl 10 should I be wearing or what items should I be looking to obtain to move me along? Thank you, Wendigo

3. Attacking, at BLKMAG lvl4 what should my attack sequence be? And even though my Ash-staff lvl1 gives me a little mp is it worth the attack i could be dealing with a club lvl1? And do I have to have the staff out to get the plus's it gives or just equipped? Thanks, Wendigo

4. Anyone in the know that would like to take a chance teaching this young apprentice of FF please feel free to send me an invite knowledge is power and on FF I feel pretty dumb... thanks guys

A 1:To get a sub job you have to have at least 1 job at level 18 and you have to collect 3 items and turn them in, you need a magicd Skull they drop off Various Undead, A Damsell Fly worm they drop of damsel flys in Valkrum dunes and a Crab shell i think, they drop of crabs on the beaches of valkrum dunes, turn the quest in at selbina to a guy on the beach.

A 2: Well as a hume black mage you should look into stuff that raises your Int First and then ur Mp id say, generaly the +Mp gear at those levels is too small to give u the mp needed for another casting, so id just try to do more damage per casting get stuff with +Int and then if their isnt +Int for a gear slot look for +Mp.

A 3:Dont get a club keep the staff or get a wand, your sequence should look something along these lines id say, Stone, Poison, and then stone until their dead, just time your attacks when you see them start their attack animation hit your Stone macro, you should get the casting off with out it gettin interupted.

A 4: look for somone else mabe ill help ya all i can through forums but ive run into a.. diffiuclty with my 360 so i wont be able to help ya there.

well macros are pretty simple once you learn them
heres ur basic spell macro /ma stone
/ma means your casting a magic
stone well thats stone spell you can insert any spell u have there
that means on your currently selected target

quick note if the spell has space in it you need quotes around it for example
/ma "blaze spikes"
means your casting on your self
you can also macro weapon skills and job abilitys
/ws is for weapon skills
/ja is job ability
there are also a few other ones that are helpful for partys if ur in them
/party My current Mp is at we should rest soon it
/party means ull talk in party chat, and means mp precent, you can also do which shows exactly what your mp is at, precents seem to help alot more in partys though warriors generaly under stand %'s better than a static number. if you need any more help post here or send me a Pm ill check pretty regularly for the next while to see if u need help. feel free to ask. i can go alot more into macros if u want but thats the basics ull need, it makes it really easy.

also dont forget the first letter in the macro IE: stone has to be /ma Stone

there are plenty of other < > things like and *battle target.. helpful for a blm* and also great for whms is /ma Cure which cures party member 1 and there are also and so on and so forth until

for the warriors Provoke macros should look something like this

/ja Provoke

and your basic ws macros should look like this...

me being a thf using a sword at lvl 23 means iam doing sneak attack and fast blade linked
so i set up a macro looking like this

/ja "Sneak Attack"
/wait 1
/ws "Fast Blade"

where /wait 1 makes the macro wait one second you can do up to /wait 30 *as far as i know*

for those monks who like to stack boost there is /echo

/echo send a chat thing only seen by you so you can time your boosts
heres a quick boost macro

/ja Boost
/wait 15*not sure the of the boost cooldown*
/echo boost is ready boost away

boost can stack up to 9 times before starting to wear off

now on to skillchains

timing certain weaponskills with eachother make something that is called a Skillchain
as a future samurai*whos main focus in a pt is opening up Magic bursts and Skillchains* i have found a skillchain chart *which i have yet to find again ; ;* and that is very usefull

here are a few SC's i can remember off hand

Fast Blade >> Red Lotus Blade = Liquefaction + fire = magic burst

Raging Axe >> Fast Blade = Scission +stone = magic burst

Tachi: Enpi >> Tachi: Enpi = Distortion + water/ice = magic burst...

i think you get the jist of it

One more thing mr.new guy, teh abreviations (sp) to your job's will quickly change, here's a list of what everyone calls them all

BLM = Black Mage
WHM= White Mage
WAR = Warrior
RDM = Red Mage
MNK = Monk
THF = Thief
DRK = Dark Knight
DRG = Dragoon
BRD = Bard
PLD = Paladin
RNG = Ranger
SAM = Samurai
NIN = Ninja
SMN = Summoner

I know I'm forgetting a job, but I can't think of what. But that's what you'll get to know all the jobs as.

Ok here's my Q,

I have never played outta Sandy b4, so these missions are new to me! I completed all rank 1 missions(get the orc axe, get the orc mail scales, save the children from the orc chief NM) and it said Rank2 just like it does when you gain an xp lvl, but it does not alow me to select a new mission, just 2 of the missions from rank 1 that I had already completed(and yes at the end of saving the child I visited the cathedral for them to thank me). What gives?

you need a certain number of rank points to start new missions. try trading a stack of crystals to the gate guard (the guy who gives you signet) and check the mission list again. if you don't get it, keep trading crystals until you get the mission.

You can also do this by repeating the old missions, but trading crystals is the quick, easy way to do it.

Genmu, you Mission rank points might not be high enough to get the next mission(2-1). Check your point bar in Status > Profile on your side menu. The farther along it is, the better the chance is you will be offered a new mission. You do get points for completing missions too, so you can repeat old missions offered for more points to build your standing.

You can also trade crystals(of any kind, doesn't matter if they are cheap or expensive) to the Gate Guard to improve your rank points. I did this several times through my ranking up period. It's ALOT quicker than repeating missions.

I kind of wish I owned an Xbox360 now, it would be fun to go back and visit the days when the game was brand new. It's been almost 2 years since I stepped foot into Vana'diel for the first time. And when I did, the server wasn't "brand new" and untouched like yours is for Xbox360 only. I joined when the PS2 version was released for NA. At that point, the NA PC users had access to FFXI for a whole 5-6 months before I did. And I believe the JP's had this game a full year or more before the NA PC users had access to it. So we already had a very evolved world to jump into.

So welcome to Vana'diel, and enjoy all it has to offer. Remember, it's not about a race to get to the end of the game. You can't beat FFXI. And it will take a looooong time to finish all of the missions(City Missions, Zilart Missions, Chains of Promathia Missions, and the new expansion due out soon, Treasures of Aht Urghan Missions). Leveling multiple jobs is fun, leveling crafts is fun, but mostly, helping others will be the souce of most of your fun. Going on those brand new adventures with people on your server. Helping them get items, and them helping you in return. When you hit level 50, team work becomes even that much more needed. So Enjoy!

/salute from The Spirits Within LS on the Alexander server ^^

Maciked Skulls only drop from Ghouls. They pop at night in the Dunes or there are many pops in Gusgen Mines all day long.

Hey whats up guys Wendigo here again, with a plethora of new questions for you wise O'l men to answer...lol

1. What should my spell sequence be for most effective attack? (lvl 7 BlkMag)

2. When should i use my Mana Job Skill and how?

I had a blast yesterday, I got a random party invite and was about to decline but i figured "maybe they're knowledgable" and i was right i got to party up with 2 Monks lvl 10 and 8, 1 lvl 8 Warrior, 1 lvl 9 thief a lvl 12 Whitemage and myself. We went to the Plateau and had a blast no one died (except me after like 2hrs) i got like 600xp during that time I needed 200xp for lvl 8.

Then me and my friend try'd to form a party of six i died twice like nothing cause we had two redmages and they couldn't keep our tank and me alive at the same time for some reason and i lost 400xp...lol just thought i'd give you my newbie adventures... lol
