they just leech off help from lv70+ players.

Leech? I hope you don't mean that in a bad way..

kurousagi :
even if it was some high level monster requirement to get the jobs unlocked, most newbs would be like ZOMG HIGH LEVEL HELP ME and get it done.

how do you think a lot of level 30s get jobs like SAM and DRG unlocked these days? they just leech off help from lv70+ players.

When advanced jobs were originally made for level 30, SquareEnix had the intent of level 30s partying and alliancing together to get these quests done. It's only natural that now you ask for high level help, because it's available to you. Why not take advantage of the help that you can get? That and the fact that there isn't an alliance of 30s wanting to get this quest done.

Well, even when the quests were introduced I don't think they were intended for level 30s to alliance for. By the 50-60 range any of them are easily soloable, and most can be even in the 40s.

Fact still remains that S-E expects you complete just about everything in the game with a group.

Forces you to make friends, because you neglect your real life ones. XD

I specifically remember an interview with some SE guy who talked about the expansion and said it would include more solo, low lvl (20-30 I think) content.

That S-E guy was Sage Sundi and that was an interview he had with the Blue Garter linkshell. I've come to believe that Sage Sundi doesnt really know what is going on. Every time we asked him a question at the Igames event in cali, the response was something along the lines of "I dont know the answer to that, you would have to talk to the dev team".
I think that is the main reason why they are touting the fact that the dev team will be at the festival in March.

I think he's just a PR gimic to make people feel like they are talking to someone who knows something. The interview that was posted on KI was with Kouichi Ogawa, who is the guy in charge of ToA development. He is calling the shots and Im not surprised one bit that what he is saying is the exact opposite of what Sage Sundi said.

Just because the expansion has some low level content doesn't mean it also can't bring high level content as well.

Both previous expansions have added a TON of low level stuff in. They also both added mission series and endgame areas for high level characters, instanced high level content (Limbus, Dynamis), etc.

Fact is, most of the low level content outside of new gear in CoP was ignored -or- was "too hard" to get to because of needing to get through some CoP missions (which, granted, tended to be level 30 fights on a level 75 budget).

What I see from it is that we have people who are both trying, basically, to give the answer that their respective audiences want to hear.

That doesnt really make any sense. The blue garter linkshell is an HNM linkshell and would be more interested in hearing about high level content, but Sage Sundi said it would be low level content.

True, however it still may be a matter of perspective. Or a matter of what had been planned out at the time. I wouldn't doubt that it was more the answer that Sage Sundi had prepared because I think typically people "want" to hear it the other way around.

I sort of see the "audience" as not so much just the people asking the questions too. This interview was for a JP audience, right? If Sage Sundi typically answers questions only for NA, that may be a reason as well. Either way it's advertising for the expansion.

Expeditionary Forces, Garrison, multitudes of low-level quests, tons and tons of low level NMs, Promyvion, Riverne site a01 / b01, chocobo races, low level ballista matches... i dunno, i kinda think they added quite a bit of low-level content. Its just that sometimes Low Level content isnt as 'fun' as High Level content for some people, because you dont have as much freedom and/or Power that a 75..whatever..has access too.

Maybe something like this?
Job Ability:
Dice roll shot(6 sided die):
Roll a 1: Misses the monster (Simple to understand)

Roll a 2: Does an elemental shot that weakens elemental resistance, depends on weakness of the monster (if fire elemental is weak to water, it will be a water base shot and weaken fire resistance for example). *If there is no specific elemental weakness, the element will be random*

Roll a 3: Does an elemental shot that STRENGTHENS elemental resistance, depends on strength of the monster (if fire elemental is strong against fire, it will be a fire base shot that increases resistance to water). *If there is no specific elemental resistance, the element will be random*

Roll a 4: An inaccurate(-25% accuracy) critical shot(2x normal damage, and 2x normal tp gain from the shot).

Roll a 5: Multiple shots *extra shots varies per level, more the higher you are* **This is like barrage, lets say you get Dice roll shot at level 30, every 15 levels after level 30(+1 from the start), you get an extra shot in. Example level 30 = One extra shot from your gun(total of 2), Level 45 = Two extra shots from your gun(total of 3), Level 75 = Four extra shots from your gun (total of 5 shots)

Roll a 6: Shoots the monster regularly, if it hits, gains 100% tp. If you do not hit, lowers tp by 100%.
*Simple enough to understand right?*

Well this is an example I thought of.

As you can see, it doesn't have anything WAY TOO NEGATIVE or WAY TOO POSITIVE

I'm pretty sure SE won't make Corsair have a chance to devestate the party(like kill everyone), or recover's the mobs health to full, through a dice roll for example. Thats just too "strong" for how FFXI is, not really those type of games where one dice roll can kill the entire party(I mean it in literal terms, not how if you can't stun a goblin bomb, all of your party members die), or kill all the monsters.

While its possible for it to work that way, I think its highly unlikely. As I said before (in another post) I think you guys are thinking WAAAY too deep into it.
The simple statement "Wow, that Corsair sure has bad luck!" was part of the answer to another question which IMO already gives us a better idea how it will work.

(interview)
Q: Not an attacker?!
A: The main concept is for it to be a party support type.

Q: Will gambling techniques also be party support-ish? [<-- The question]
A: Some will. It's a gamble,[<---- the answer] so maybe people will be like "That Corsair has bad luck!" etc. [<-- Kouichi Ogawa trying to give a general idea]

Kouichi Ogawa obviously states that SOME Corsair abilities will be supportive and some not , but you wont know which you will get when you try to use your skill... because "its a gamble".

Im thinking there will just be some kind of job ability that corsairs will use which will toss out some random effect. For Example:

/ja "supersecretcorsairmove" : "Mr tank receives the effect of refresh" (too bad he's a NIN)
/ja "supersecretcorsairmove" : "Dumb mob receives the effect of gravity"
/ja "supersecretcorsairmove" : "Teh WHM receive's the effect of suparhuman strength buff XI"
/ja "supersecretcorsairmove" : "Mr Hawt Samurai gains the effect of MP regen"

Party members: OMFGWTF KICK THAT FREAKIN CORSAIR!! HE HAS THE WORST FKIN LUCK POSSIBLE!!!! omfgbbqroflolorz /start flame post on KI

Obviously there is no way to verify it untill the job is released but I think it is more likely to be a nice simple job ability based system than some ultra weird ass special random system based on the moon phaze and which shoe you put on first this morning.
