Is there honor in ballista? Do you hold back from throwing a shadowbind on a recoveree?
Should you honor 1v1 requests?
Does sleep cheapen the hell out of the game?
Is it wrong to gang up on that WHM?
I'm no expert on ballista, but I've been around the block a bit. I've pissed off a few people for taking them down,
but they deserved it most of the time ; ) If you see anything that I may miss, feel free to add.
Kill BLMs on sight. SMNs too, but on a lesser degree. You may feel bad and hesitate bashing that cute little taru blm, but it wont be so cute when he unloads a nuke for half your life.
Don't think you can give em a break and fight other melee, cause most of the time, a good placed firagaII will wipe out half your party. Having access to that power
paints a big target on your forehead. If you don't like going down, learn to evade capture, or don't play it.
DON'T stay around to get revenge on your assassin. Most of the time, you may bring him down--but the rest of his party gets another GB off of you to do so.
DO travel in packs. Preferrably in your party--you all will get GB for a kill, as opposed to half of you, while the rest of the pt is on the other side of the map.
DO your homework. Study their strat. That WHM gathering all the petras? Get your THF to mug em and flee, or take em out before said WHM scores 5 every GB.
That rng sticking back of the pt? Sleep/bind and lead them out of his range. Asssassinate him later =) Knowing your enemy is half the battle.
As a rule, DON'T 1v1. Unless you know the other team personally, and the dueler, dont bother. Some MNK/RDM will interrupt, and just waste time.
IF you can handle your own, DO talk trash. Get em riled up, and chasing you. If they are angry, or frustrated, the more likely you can split the opposing team up, and the less concerned in scoring your mark is ; )
DO be aware of your surroundings. Use cliffs for ranged cover, and sneaky -agas. Ambush Petra-whores from the trees. Lead melees around rocks and such, to set up a recovery.
QUARRY as OFTEN AS POSSIBLE. If I'm low on health, and already have an elixer, and dig another one up, I can use it as quickly as a hi-pot. Catholicons release you from bind. Lethe waters kill Stoneskins. Stockpile items, and Petras, and you just might get lucky. Have all your JA ready to use? Happen to have a revitalizer? Win. Smoke em if you got em. A nice placed EES, Chainspell, Invincible, you name it...you now have another chance to wreak havoc.
DON'T ZONE! That is the lamest thing I've ever seen, and you wont be very well respected if you pull lame exploits like that.
IF you are fine with it, DO run if you get low. If it's an uneven match, Ill lead them away from the rooks and my party, at the very least. They want to chase me? Good! Ill make em go as far away as I can, and just HP to my Pursuivant to get back into action. If it is an even match...go down fighting. More than likely, the fight will last more than the 40s I need to be up an ready to take my revenge, and negate the GB I just gave em.
DO gang up on people...but I'd suggest against it more often than not. I hate being ganged up on when my party is far away, and I feel kinda bad gangbanging the same sam/nin when he recovers so close to my pt. I see great irony in a PLD running from me while his 2 buddies gang up on me on a 3v1. It also makes me sick. But, if you stick to your party, this won't matter much.
DO have fun. That's what it's all about. Please do so =)
May update if I think of any more^^
Honor, Etiquette, an other do/don'ts in Ballista

Should there be honor in Ballista?
That's a very weighted question, is there any real honor or mercy in war? If you're competing in a nation match you signed on knowing that there is the chance of you getting completely and utterly fucked over. Take it with a grin, no matter how dirty it may be it's just tactics.
Diorama, that's a little different. I for one honor 1v1 requests in Diorama, and I tend to be less of a prick because normally it's among friends. But when it comes down to a nation match, no I'd say it really doesn't matter how you go out and take care of business. The whole point is that you just get it done and your team wins.

Honour is for the honourable. I hate when people ask stupid questions like, "Why do you kill me so much?" usually followed by an, "ass" or something. These are usually BLMs and what not. Common sense there. If I don't kill you, you take off a ton of my HP. Ya know? And if you gotta give someone a handicap for a 1v1, doesn't that defeat the purpose of a 1v1?

I guess I have honor in a sense but it's more common sense imo. (Mainly a 60 cap player)
I usually leave Summoners/Black Mages alone unless they hit me first, or get off an Astral Flow/Big Nuke. Then I'll proceed to attempt to one shot them or atleast bring their health down to low. Usually after that they run away when they see me coming which I usually do just for scare tactics.
If I see two melee fighting both at near full health, I usually just watch from a distance because some people are just anal as fuck about 1vs1. Otherwise I'll provoke.
Even though it's incredibly tempting to, I never touch an AFK player no matter the circumstances. It's just a cheap way to GB.
If the matches are so stacked in my favor that the other team has no way of winning, I usually just /quarry up a storm and don't bother hitting anyone unless they hit me first. I once had a match a few days ago where this dude's whole party dropped the match except for him which I respected him for. Don't be a fuckin douche and kill people like that non-stop knowing there's not anything they can do about it then proceed to brag like you're the shit. If they're willing, just do some 1vs1's to make up for the wasted time.

With the little knowlage of ballista that I have honour has almost no place in ballista. When I go to play ballista i don't expect any free rides the aim of the game is to get GB and score like hell. I mean if you were healing and i saw you with very little health would I shoot you in the back? Hell yes I need a GB and your my ticket to it. Though I do belive you should show respect to your opponents win or lose.
1 vs 1 requests are different I truly belive that if you want to do this then stay away from nation matches because there is no reason why I shouldnt cheat you for a GB (though personaly I try and stay away from doing such things).
Sleep is a tactic like anything else I mean yea you sleep me fair play i should have seen it comming and prepared for it but its no less cheap than subbing nin for shadows. As I said it is a tactic and knowing this means that you should be prepared for it.
Ganging up may be one of the most annoying things in ballista. Yes there are those who target specific players such as whm, smn, blm and anything that will not live through the night. Its not wrong to do so in my eyes as its as much of a risk to the attacker as the defender. For example if you see a whm sitting there and there is 2 of you your gonna go beat it down like it owes you money. On the other hand the whm can run and be chased and then BAM 5 members of his/her team kill you in less time than it takes you to blink.
Running from a fight is this dishonourable? In my view no but it can also depend on your situation.
There isnt much I probably wouldn't do in a ballista match but eh I'm a thf like that.

The only thing that should be honored in Ballista is the "No idiocy" policy.
You don't kill yourself intentionally to give the other team Gate breach.
You don't mock someone when they die and think you're better than them, especially in tells.
You don't understand the system of Ballista? STFU
Keep a friendly attitude, this isn't Counter Strike and the arguments you have can affect you in game, whether or not you like it. That cockiness can really fuck you over.

I was in a match where someone brought two characters and signed up with both, just to make the teams outnumbered.

You shouldn't run away when you know that you 'll die bacause you teamed up on a whm and stayed too long to try to kill him, then the rest of the team backed up the whm and he got only 50 HP left...

I would argue the fact that this can be wrong sometimes running can cut down on the amount of players that gain GB as well as sending the main meeles away from the fight or anywhere near a rook.

I get annoyed when people go on kill whoring sprees, but never bother to use their GB to score points. I think that kind of play should stay in diorama when screwing around with friends...
I should respect other players methods, but... it upsets me to be let down by people who don't back up their team. =/
I don't know, maybe I'm trying to hard to win, people want to have fun... true... but it's hard for me to score when noobs come in and steal kills (when not in same party) then run off to die leaving me having to find another person to get GB from. It's not really fun for me.
/rant off
I guess the solution is to organise more dioramas with friends.
//possibly caused by a bad experience yesterday

Do whatever you want in Diorama, play to win with your group at all costs in Nation battles.

Eh I'm guilty of that sometimes when I play WAR. Last match I just had was extremely melee heavy. People dying like they were going for the highest chains possible. In those type of matches, I just focus on killing peoplee and let other people get Gate Breach. I felt kinda guilty about it considering I nearly had GB non-stop, but in that situation, I felt like I was taking more away from the team if I kept trying to /quarry.
Playing on PLD on the other hand.... >_>

The only honor type rule I've usually seen and abided by is no spamming Silence. Seriously, mages can sit there for an entire match just trading Silences, using echoes, repeat. It's a waste of gil.
If I see a BLM casting a -ga on my party, sure, I'll silence. I won't just silence every mage I see for the heck of it.

I play as blm, and sure I get some people allways chasing me, running back to your team is best from my experience.

Lol yea running to your team is always nice but when you know that you can die witin 3-2 hits I prefer to cut down on GB seeing as my team might not prevent my death. There is exception when they have low health as well where they would be smart to run the opposite way. I play to win so the less people with GB on the opposite side the better.
