Honor, Etiquette, an other do/don'ts in Ballista

Oh god, leave the honor to the Japanese...

If you're going to play ballista, you should understand that people are going to do different things, some will like the whole "I'm honorable" route and that's fine, just don't expect everyone else to follow your example.

Others will go with the "Do anything to win" thing also, again...that's fine. Although I would just label you as a "typical".

I quite honestly don't care about winning, losing, getting petra, etc.. The whole point for me is to be that guy that people will watch out for, nothing is more satisfying on this game than just getting away with a clean quick kill and having that person target you for the rest of the match, getting killed countless times because his attempts, just, aren't good enough.

Reputation people, that's what you're really working on.

I don't understand why everyone is saying using /em is rude.

The /em is one of the most effective ways to attack using psychological warfare in this game. I have an /em for every WS I use in Ballista now, and I even have a /sh version for two. If you can get a person upset enough to cloud their rationalization skills, then do whatever. The ability to talk shit and use it as a weapon is very valuable.

Now, for those interested I will go over the construction of the /em. Both methods are very simple. The first is if you can, just use random JP characters with an insulting face and many w's. (>w;)/ is my face of choice. The second is to use the normal characters but have something completely random and stupid. Something along the lines of "/em owns your gummiship np" followed by the face of choice. If it is a smaller match with people who aren't very familiar with the ways of Ballista, it'd be wise to use something way more insulting. "/em wow you must suck w" works extremely well.

The best way to use this effectively is when there isn't much text spam and if you actually kill the person. The single most effective way to use this is going to a war with near full/half HP, and after they fully buff a WS including mighty strikes and take them out in a single shot. This also works on drk who uses souleater. Because you just took out their chance for doing a super powered WS after complete buff, they will target you and make stupid decisions.

the only thing I honor is thundaga 3 and sleepga 2

other than that, you can honor my foot in your face.

Nice tactic I know that would make me gun for you. In my opinion you should show respect in the game even if you destroy something twice your size. Personaly I wouldn't do it even knowing it would give me a tactical edge but there is nothing I'm gonna do about it if you chose to annoy the hell out of me. I think there are two types of people who do this those that do it for tactical reasons and those who do it to be an ass and hide behind the fact it can give a tactical edge (personaly I dont think the first one exists but i may be wrong).

If there is really honor in Ballista, it probably means following:

1. Do not attack AFK players that AFK since start for certain reason, either falling asleep or RL issue. Getting Gate Breach from AFK players that already warned by opposite team is some action cant be encouraged.

2. Do not insulting other players, either you are winning or losing.

3. Do not expect everyone will let you doing 1 v 1 during regular ballsita. Regular ballista is for team competition, no one has right to following your little 1 v 1 request. If you want to do it, it is fine, /tell your opponent the location that if far away from main battlefield. If you only cared about 1 v 1, Dior is the place for you. Stop acting like child and shouting insults because other people wont let you do your little 1 v 1 at regular ballista match.

However, this tearm "Honor" is vague on ballsita and kinda funny that people would ever brought this term on Ballsita, where this is not pure PVP, but rather a competition game between 2 teams.

I have to say finding "honor" in Ballista isn't too bad on our server. Most everyone respects 1 v. 1's and normally (more times than not) if someone is AFK no one attacks them. I used to loathe this JP girl who would always Stun. I hate Stun more than anything in Ballista. Bind/Grav/Sleep w/e, but Stun is too much for me. tongue.gif I play like a savage on my WAR, going for kills galore and usually dying alot too. THF is more tactical, scoring more. And I just <3 going as WHM. Especially if you have Bene and a Revitilizer. That just pisses off the team that much more. One time I used Bene 5x in one match cause I got Revs. and had my 2hr before we started. ohmy.gif I guess that isn't "honorable" cause I had to use my 2hr and all, but meh. "All is fair in love and war." And last I knew, Ballista was an exercise San d'Orians used to practice for war or something...

Edit: About that girl that Stunned alot, she and I are now really good friends and almost always win when on each others teams.

1. Attacking others is fun and enjoyable, but please, dont go "Homing Missile" on them, they'll suspect a grudge and ruin you. (if it JP, expect more and more...)

2. Dont attack AFK ppl, if you want TP, see that Avatar floating about? wack wack wack it

3. Always set rules in 1v1's. If there is no rules b4 a fight, ussally, the one with that Megalizer...wins.

4. Dont be a ass w/ Shouts. /sh god dammit.

5. If you see someone that thinks he's better then you (a RDM killing a RDM w/ Chainspell every game) Dont get mad. Get even, because chances are he'll get ganged up and die alot more. But no /slapping>.>

It is funny that I have run into some ninja from some self-proclaimed best hnm ls expecting everyon in ballista "honor" his 1 v 1 fight. Grow up, it is no cap ballista and ga spells are flying around. You are fighting at hot zone between 2 Nations' players encountering each other and you are expecting not to be touched. You are doing your little 1 v 1 between crossfire, duh.

If you want 1 v 1, /tell your oppenent player the location that is far away from hot zone. No one would even bother to travel all the way to some place off Rook zone just to stalk you. No one have to listen to your requrest just because you are from a hnm ls. It is regular ballista, people are there to fight for team victory.

if your going to 1v1, do it rediculously far away from the battlefield so nobody comes creeping up on you and ruins it. (for example i ussualy 1v1 near the spine in meritaphd mountains (sp?) close to the end by Castle Oztroja. Most people wont go near there unless there chasing someone down.

1-there is no honor in ballista... once you see the enemy.. rape them
2-i dont honor 1vs 1 requests because its a game you created but Ballista is a team work... we all work together to defeat the enemy...
3- sleep , lullaby is not cheaping anything
4- i dont see any WHM

I think this post covered it lol.

Honor in ballista? Yes I have honor.. If someone pwns me ill admit my defeat. I wont engage in 1on1 battles.
I dont target easy gate breaches. I play only for the challenge of taking on jobs that have the obvious advantage over mine. I dont care about scoring petras or anything like that. It doesnt take much "skill" to hit, run, and score petras IMO. I dont play to score points. I play to beat your *** biggrin.gif

It's people like you who I hate to have on my team. As such i would kill you without a second thought.

That made me laugh lol. I have started to really enjoy playing as SMN in ballista for some odd reason. Probably because its the most challenging job to be good at in ballista.

Anyways, before SMN, I played as my THF/RDM/WHM. So I know that flying avatars = TP. But when I play as SMN, my avatar rarely ever leaves my side. I invis after my avatar is out and go in while both team are occupied fighting in hopes of 1-shotting someone.(If they're below 800HP, they will die, unless some hits miss:dozingoff)

My whole point is that smart SMN will never let his/her avatar just 'float" around. Thats just plain stupid.
Those SMN need to be smacked around a couple of times. And really hard...:no

Donnie.. lol, keeps coming as smn/blm, insisting it's the best combo. That makes me laugh so hard. When I /sea all ballista and see his name, it usually makes me reconsider that next merit party in favor of vaporizing him.

Do any of you consider smn/blm a viable ballista combo? Maybe I'm just deranged, but I see almost no benefit to that subjob. (Not intended as a derail, I play on the same server as Ryolen and I'm sure he shares my feelings of remorse when this guy ends up on his team.) If I was honorable.. I would probably just leave this guy alone, but instead I feel it's my duty to make him my Breach Buddy so to speak every game I see him in, lol.

It's not completely useless. You can sleep/bind someone just long enough to keep them from running from your BP, and do some decent AoE damage with stonega.

I prefer /whm when I go, but that's just me. Then again, I'm not a very good smn either.

I thought BPs were fixed, and the target can't run out of range? Or was that Astral Flow?

Lillia :
When I go to Ballista as samurai, I'm generally sneaky and a pain. I rarely fight people.

SAM/NIN

    1 Quarry
    2 Meditate
    3 Tonko
4 Ambush someone with low HP
    5 Score petra

No honor, just whatever it takes to get people mad and win biggrin.gif

lol, that's SAM for ya. Sometimes I like to mix it up though. Everyone will be fighting and I'll take my GK out and just constantly switch target to people without shadows, getting tp while running around. Strangely enough, I often go unnoticed when I do this. XD

It's also fun when someone on the other team is guarding the rook. I'll go up to him and hit him, then start running away. He'll chase me, and when I think I'm far enough away, I hit flee and run back towards the rook and score. XD
