What are ballista RNG subbing on your sever now a days?

I use /nin almost exclusively till 60 cap.. then I use samurai sub. I've used white mage sub when I wanted a change of pace, and /nin still does just fine. Warrior sub I've seen others use.. but the thought of running around with berserk up and no shadows just seems very silly to me. To be honest though, rangers are fast becoming a job you rarely if ever see in uncapped on my server, so I can't really tell you there.

Invisibilty.. and not dying instantly when a melee runs up to you? In lower caps dual-wielded archer's knives also allows you to strip shadows faster.. and if you're using a gun you can almost exclusively build tp with your daggers in 30 and 40 cap matches.

*Points to above comment about being Invisible* Also.. they still have to strip your defenses first before doing anything negative to you.. it puts a barrier between you and damage. I don't see how that's a hard concept to understand. If you're going to just say "The other team has Diaga.. my shadows are now useless" then the same argument can be made about almost anything.. that's just flawed logic.

As a black mage: "They will all just quarry up poison potions.. I won't cast sleep spells."

It's obvious at this point though that you're just spamming the PvP boards anyway, so have fun.

Dual Wield - Strips 2 shadows right off the bat if you run up to someone (if you fired beforehand, that's all 3 shadows down quickly). Increased ranged acc at lower levels, since you don't get access to good 2-hand weapons like Fire Staff, so you can dual hawkers or something instead. Faster TP build if you choose to melee on higher-cap ballistas.

Utsusemi - Yes, I know Diaga removes this. But this doesn't mean it's useless! There are a variety of reasons why you might not get hit by Diaga, such as if you're standing far enough from other melees, you're not in the targeted party/alliance, or other team simply doesn't have a mage (has happened to me before). At the very least, it couldn't hurt much to cast.

Tonko - At lower level caps, this can be useful for sneaking around enemy lines. Camoflauge is very unreliable and wears faster than Tonko, and has long recast.

I've considered tinkling with /WHM instead for Diaga, cures, blink, stoneskin, and other fun spells, but it doesn't seem worth it, if only it's a hassle wasting quarries on MP items when you're not an MP-based job. If you're subbing /WHM to act like a WHM, why don't you just play a mage main job instead for ballista?

Good JP friend of mine goes RNG/WHM (or RDM not sure) in 60 caps is pretty useful for dropping shadows then Sidewinder/Slug Shotting someone trying to run away. Also given that she has stoneskin and Blink, it's usually more effort than it's worth trying to kill her unless she's alone which is rare.

She uses a Vermy Cloak too so MP with her isn't usually an issue. Of course I'm not gonna advocate that any RNGs go out and buy a Vermy given the cost. Just what I noticed.

/nin - utsu and if you miss a lot dual wield

/war - you'll hit hard

/sam - spam those slugwinders XD

/rdm - phalanx/stoneskin/blink > bind if you got the right stave or gravity and silence with wind stave

/whm - stoneskin/tect/blink/higher cures > light stave using holy bolts do good damage.

in 60 cap i use rng/whm with vermy and earth staff. blink, stoneskin & cures make you a bitch to kill if you play it right. not to mention we're still great DDs, with Eurytos Bow my Sidewinders average +750 still.

choose a sub you're comfortable with & have the most knowledge of and you should do fine :X

lol, I've NEVER seen you at 60 cap, other than DRK and I've never seen you in a Vermy or having an E bow. FTL.
