This is a list and analysis of end game (70+) lances. I am very much welcome to any comments and opinions on the subject.
I have included the statistics for each polearm, its Damage/Delay ratio, any extraneous information I have on the lance and my own personal commentary.

Note: If anyone has the information on the progression for upgrading the Relic Lance I would love to include it.

Update 2/20/06: Included new entry for Leviathan's Couse and new information on Bourdonasse, Mighty Lance and Gungnir.

Polearms 70+

Bourdonasse - Level: 70 - Damage: 84, Delay: 478, D/D Ratio: .1757
Hidden Effect: Blunt Damage.
Commentary: This is a decent damage polearm. It's blunt damage means that it is probably a weapon you should have at end-game, considering the absolutely pathetic damage that regular polearms have against undead. Sadly, weaponskills are still considered peircing damage and thus are still weak. It has been suggested that if a Banish spell is cast on an undead mob then the piercing weaponskill will have full affect, this has not be personally test and can not be verified at this time. This polearm is relatively cheap and is well worth purchasing even if it is just used against undead.
Obtainable from: Eye of the Storm - Chamber of Oracles

Colossal Lance - Level: 70 - Damage: 88, Delay: 492, D/D Ratio: .1788
Additional statistics: HP +25, Strength +3, Vitality +5
Commentary: An excellent lance, but very expensive. Damage is very nice for the level but with a relatively high delay. The additional strength makes it an excellent weaponskill polearm and the vitality and bonus HP makes it a very good polearm for soloing.
Obtainable from: Ocean Sahagin

Rune Halberd - Level: 70 - Damage: 68, Delay: 396, D/D Ratio: .1717
Additional statistics: Latent Effect: Dexterity +6, Latent Effect: Double Attack +5%
Hidden Effect: The latent effects kick in with the wielder has MP. While the wielder is engaged on a mob the polearm takes 3 MP per tick for the Latent Effects to be active.
Commentary: Probably a rather underestimated polearm because it is only useful for dragoons that are subbing a mage job. The bonuses are excellent but the MP cost is high. For those that use mage subjobs for partying, then this polearm would be quiet effective. For those that sub melee jobs this polearm is subpar.
Obtainable from: Strange Apparatuses

Schiltron Spear - Level: 70 - Damage: 70, Delay: 396, D/D Ratio: .1768
Additional statistics: Strength +5, Parrying Skill +6
Commentary: Although most dragoons prefer lances for their higher damage, this spear has a decent D/D Ratio for the level and the additional strength would help greatly for the lessened damage on weaponskills. Additionally the parrying skill bonus is very nice, considering it is a skill upgrade and just parrying. Possibly a good soloing polearm, but most would probably prefer the additional HP and vitality that other lances can provide.
Obtainable from: Cactor Sauve - Chamber of Oracles, Eye of the Storm - Chamber of Oracles

Ox Tongue - Level: 71 - Damage: 70, Delay: 396, D/D Ratio: .1768
Additional statistics: HP +10, Dexterity +2, Vitality +2
Ox Tongue +1 - Level: 71 - Damage: 71, Delay 385, D/D Ratio: .1844
Additional statistics: HP +11, Dexterity +3, Vitality +3
Commentary: Another decent polearm for soloing, the additional HP and vitality should make it worthwhile to some. The high quality version seems to be necesary to justify it compared to other polearms of this level, the additional bonus to this is that the high quality version has a relatively high D/D Ratio and a lower delay than most level polearms around this level.
Obtainable from: Crafted

Reserve Captain's Lance - Level: 71 - Damage: 69, Delay: 365, D/D Ratio: .1890
Additional statistics: Enhances Resist Silence Effect, Citizens of San d'Oria: Defense +10
Commentary: Another good soloing polearm for this level, at least for citizens of San d'Oria. The D/D ratio is very high for this polearm, and the incredibly low delay would ensure consistant damage. The resist silence effect would also be helpful for soloing. Although it has a high D/D Ratio, the low damage would seem to make it impractical for partying because of lower weaponskill damage.
Obtainable from: San d'Orian citizen, San d'Oria 1st place in Conquest, 48000 Conquest Points

Spear of Trials - Level: 71 - Damage: 68, Delay: 396, D/D Ratio: .1717
Additional statistics: Latent Effect: HP +20, Latent Effect: Resist vs. Water +10, Latent Effect: Resist vs. Dark +10
Commentary: This is the spear that you use to unlock the Impulse Drive weaponskill. 300 weaponskill points are necessary to remove the latent effect that is on this polearm. Once the latent effect is removed, the wielder can complete the quest to unlock Impulse Drive.
Obtainable from: Balasiel for quest Methods Create Madness

Dreizack - Level: 72 - Damage: 87, Delay: 477, D/D Ratio: .1824
Additional statistics: Strength +4, Dexterity +1, Additional Effect: Weakens Attacks
Commentary: A very nice polearm that is also very expensive. This is a polearm that every dragoon should want, even if it is not necessarily needed. The high damage, strength and dexterity makes for excellent weaponskill damage, and the D/D Ratio is also relatively high. The additional effect of weakening attacks should also make your tanks very happy with you. The proc rate for weakens attacks appears to be similar to other additional effect weapons.
Obtainable from: Early Bird Catches the Wyrm - Balga's Dais, Horns of War - Horlais Peak

Gondo-Shizunori - Level: 72 - Locked: Damage: 72, Delay: 480, D/D Ratio: .1500
Unlocked: Damage: 85, Delay: 480, D/D Ratio: .1770
Additional Statistics: Latent Effect: Damage 85, Latent Effect: Critical Hit Rate +6%
Commentary: This is the locked critical hit weapon for polearms. This polearm is similar to the Spear of Trials in that you must gain weaponskill points to unlock its latent effect, but this time you must gain 500 weaponskill points to have the latent effect become a permanent effect. When unlocked, this polearm becomes a very nice option. The damage is high, so weaponskill damage is not bad, but more importantly the +6% critical hit rate is what makes it most attractive. This should make a marked improvement in damage over time. This is a polearm that every dragoon should try to get.
Obtainable from: Royale Ramble - Balga's Dais, Today's Horoscope - Horlais Peak

Leviathan's Couse - Level 72 - Damage: 89, Delay: 480, D/D Ratio: .1854
Additional Statistics: Mind +8, Attack +8, Latent Effect: Water Damage
Commentary: This is now the highest damage and D/D Ratio polearm for level 72. The extra attack is a nice bonus on a polearm with this high of a damage rating, but the benefits to the addition mind seem unclear as it would benefit only a small number of mage sub jobs. It is currently unknown how the latent effect of water damage is activated or what the proc rate is for this extra ability.

Martial Lance - Level: 72 - Damage: 84, Delay: 492, D/D Ratio: .1707
Additional Statistics: TP Bonus
Commentary: A relatively decent polearm in its own right, the Martial Lance has the added benefit of providing an additional 100 TP to your weaponskills when calculating damage. A 100 TP weaponskill would have its damage calculated as having 200 TP and a 200 TP weaponskill would have its damage calculated as a 300 TP, though there is no additional benefit from this lance from doing a 300 TP weaponskill. This lance would seem to be more useful for Pentathrust or Impulse Drive where TP has a large effect on damage dealt, while Wheeling Thrust will have more marginal benefits from additional defense ignored.
Obtainable from: Brothers - Bearclaw Pinnacle

Z's Trident - Level: 72 - Damage: 87, Delay: 507, D/D Ratio: .1716
Additional Statistics: Latent Effect: Strength +12
Commentary: A very interesting and difficult to obtain polearm, the Z's Trident is a decent damage dealing lance, but the latent effect is what draws the most attention. It is still unclear what is necessarily to activate the latent effect, but most sources point to having the X and Y weapons in use by other party members. If this is true then this polearm is much less versatile than most have hoped, as the X and Y weapons are also difficult to obtain and being in a party with those that have them would likely be even more rare.
Obtainable from: Quest Requiem of Sin

Love Halberd - Level: 73 - Damage: 60, Delay: 396, D/D Ratio: .1515
Additional Statistics: Dexterity +7, Virtue Stone Equipped: Occasionally Attacks Twice
Commentary: An incredibly difficult to obtain polearm, but also perhaps the best polearms available in the game. The additional dexterity is very nice, but the place this polearm truely shines is in the double attacks from having virtue stones equipped. TP build would essentially double because as most already know, weapons that say "Occasionally Attacks Twice" actually mean "Occasional Does Not Attack Twice." If you are able to get this polearm, you should always have several stacks of virtue stones with you, and you should consider spamming weaponskills. This is the polearm that every aspiring dragoon dreams of as a child.
Obtainable from: Jailor of Love

Mighty Lance - Level: 73 - Damage 87, Delay: 507, D/D Ratio: .1716
Firesday: Damage: 99, Delay: 507, Ratio: .1953
Additional Statistics: Vitality +2, Firesday: Resist vs. Fire + 15, Firesday: Damage 99
Commentary: One day a Vana'diel week this polearm is the one of the best polearms available. The rest of the week and it is relatively subpar. If you have the presence of mind to remember to switch to this polearm on Firesday, you will be greatly rewarded with an insane D/D Ratio, but for those that dont pay attention enough to pay attention to the days of the Vana'diel week, then this polearm is probably not worth the effort.
Obtainable from: Level 75 Garrison in Cape Terrigan

Stone-splitter - Level: 73 - Damage 66, Delay 396, D/D Ratio: .1666
Under 100 TP: Damage: 71, Delay 396, D/D Ratio: .1792
Additional Statistics: Latent Effect: Damage 71
Hidden Effects: Attack +24, in addition to several other suspected hidden effects including increased Accuracy and Critical Hit Rate.
Commentary: Probably the most underrated and unknown polearm in the game. The Stone-splitter has many latent and hidden effects that kick in when the wielder is below 100 TP. The latent effect of Damage of 71 is in the description, but an additional hidden effect of Attack +24 can be easily demostrated by equiping this polearm. These hidden and latent bonuses disappears when the user has more than 100 TP. In addition, the bonus Attack and other effects still apply to weaponskills because the TP for the weaponskill is spent before the weaponskill goes off. The additional accuracy has been demonstrated in tests by checking mobs before and after the polearm is equiped (I have yet to confirm this myself, but I will do so soon). This polearm is an amazing damage dealing weapon, and for the price it goes for on most servers, is probably the steal of the century. Every dragoon that thinks they know the job should have this polearm.
Obtainable from: Shell We Dance? - Boneyard Gully, Totentanz - Boneyard Gully

Wyvern Spear - Level: 73 - Damage: 68, Delay: 396, D/D Ratio: .1717
Additional Statistics: Vitality +4, Agility +4
Wyvern Spear +1 - Level: 73 - Damage: 69, Delay: 385, D/D Ratio: .1792
Additional Statistics: Vitality +5, Agility +5
Commentary: Another decent soloing polearm. The additional vitality and agily provide bonuses to the most important defensive traits, and the damage for the Wyvern Spear is decent compared to other soloing polearms. As with the Ox Tongue, I would suggest the high quality version for the additional bonuses. This polearm is definitely not one that you would want to use in a party or damage dealer set up.
Obtainable from: Crafted

Ice Lance - Level: 74 - Damage: 89, Delay: 492, D/D Ratio: .1809
Additional Statistics: Additional Effect: Ice Damage
Ice Lance +1 - Level: 74 - Damage: 90, Delay: 478, D/D Ratio: .1883
Additional Statistics: Additional Effect: Ice Damage
Commentary: A very good damage dealing polearm, in fact, at level 74, it could be considered the best. The damage is very high as is the D/D Ratio, making for both good damage over time and good weaponskill damage. Also, the delay is not as high as other polearms at this level. The additional effect of ice damage does not proc very often and when it does, the damage is minimal. Again, I would suggest going with the high quality version, as it is essentially the best all around polearm at level 74.
Obtainable from: Crafted

Orichalcum Lance - Level: 75 - Damage: 92, Delay: 492, D/D Ratio: .1870
Additional Statistics: Accuracy +2, Ranged Accuracy +2
Ponderous Lance - Level: 75 - Damage: 92, Delay: 492, D/D Ratio: .1870
Additional Statistics: Accuracy +2, Ranged Accuracy +2, Enchantment: Stone
Triton's Lance - Level: 75 - Damage: 93, Delay: 478, D/D Ratio: .1946
Accuracy +3, Ranged Accuracy +3
Commentary: At 75 everyone should try to at least have an Orichalcum Lance. It is a very high damage and decent delay polearm, although the Ice Lance +1 will edge out the Orichalcum Lance on D/D ratio. That being said the Orichalcum Lance is still the better polearm with its additional accuracy and higher damage for weaponskills. The Ponderous Lance is just the enchanted version of the Orichalcum Lance, no real reason to justify the purchase of Ponderous Lance over the Orichalcum Lance. Triton's Lance, on the other hand, is the best non-relic damage lance in the game. It has the highest damage at 93, and a relatively good delay, making for a excellent D/D Ratio. It would be well worth the cost at just about any price. Interestingly enough, I believe that these lances are indicators pointing to the fact that dragoons will soon be given a throwing weapon of some sort. There are already .dat's in the game that show a form of javelin, and the ranged accuracy on these items would seem to indicate that they are coming sooner rather than later.
Obtainable from: Crafted

Other polearms below 70 worth mentioning:

Grand Knight's Lance - Level 60 - Damage: 80, Delay: 492, D/D Ratio: .1626
Additional statistics: Accuracy +7
Commentary: This lance is very useful for those that are still in their mid-70's and are having a hard time hitting end-game mobs, eg. Gods, Dynamis mobs, HNM's. The damage is low for endgame but the additional accuracy may be worth the loss in damage. Its worth considering keeping around if accuracy is a problem.
Obtainable from: San d'Oria 2nd place or better in Conquest, 32000 Conquest Points

Gae Bolg - Level 68 - Damage: 92, Delay: 551, D/D Ratio: .1670
Additional Statistics: HP +10, MP +10, Resist vs. Water +7
Commentary: The Gae Bolg has an incredibly high damage for its level equal to that of the Orichalcum Lance. This definitely justifies its useage as a damage and weaponskill polearm. It's D/D Ratio is relatively low, but considering the high damage, weaponskills can likely make up for that until the Orichalcum Lance.
Obtainable from: Vouivre

Tonbo-Giri - Level 68 - Damage: 72, Delay 396, D/D Ratio: .1818
Additional Statistics: Agility +3, Enmity +3, Additional Effect vs Vermin: Critical Hit Rate +3%
Commentary: The Tonbo-Giri is the only polearm with + enmity on it. It should be useful for dragoon's that sub thief for SATA effects as the extra enmity from the weaponskill would then be transfered onto the tank. Also the D/D Ratio is decent and the damage is not bad for a low delay polearm.
Obtainable from: Faust

The Road to Gungnir

Relic Lance - Level 75 - Damage: 1, Delay: 999, D/D Ratio: .0010

Hotspur Lance - Level 75 - Damage: 1, Delay: 507, D/D Ratio: .0020
Inside Dynamis: Damage: 82, Delay: 507, D/D Ratio: .1617
Additional Statistics: Inside Dynamis: Damage: 82, Resist vs. Earth +7

Dynamis Lance - Level 75 - Damage: 82, Delay: 507, D/D Ratio: .1617
Inside Dynamis: Damage: 84, Delay: 507, D/D Ratio: .1657
Additional Statistics: Inside Dynamis: Damage: 84, Resist vs. Earth +9

Gae Assail - Level 75 - Damage: 100, Delay: 507, D/D Ratio: .1972
Additional Statistics: Inside Dynamis: Geirskogul

Gungnir - Level 75 - Damage: 100, Delay 492, D/D Ratio: .2033
Additional Statistics: Accuracy +20, Geirskogul, Additional Effect: Weakens Defense
Hidden Effects: 10% chance of 3x damage, After using Geirskogul the user obtains shock spikes which inflict 40-60 damage with a 3-5 second stun.
Commentary: Obviously the best polearm in the game. Many of the fully upgraded relic weapons have hidden effects, but it is currently unknown. Hidden effects are of course our best guesses from observation.

Has anyone done any tests/gathered any evidence of whether or not there are any slashing damage polearms? Couses seem like a prime suspect and I'd love to know for sure. Would come in very handy for limbus. ^_~

Either way, 71 dmg totally sucks.

The one floor(with undead and the coarse NM) are immune to piercing, but not blunt or slashing. So I just use staff. That zone is so easy that buying a special polearm just for slashing doesn't seem worth it when you just just use a staff that you should already have.

True, but it's my understanding that certain limbus mobs are weak specifically to slashing, as is one of the jailers (prudence, I think?), and it never hurts to be prepared.

Ok heres some things worth mentioning.

True Bourdansse has piercing damage during WS, but if WHM casts a banish spell before a WS you'll get full unresisted damage from it.

Gungnirs effects 100% proven:
-10% chance of 3x damage.
-After using Geriskogul the user obtains shock spikes.
-These arent your typical BLM shock spikes this baby does 40-60 damage with a 3-5 second stun.(Nasheru on Raganarok has it)

All relic WS are realtivly weaker than expected and do the same dmg at 100% as 300%. TP affects duration of the WS effect, in Gungnir's case, extra duration of shock spikes. THe true perk from these relic ws is the fact that it doubles the last renkei's damage. From what I have heard, if a SAM and DRK made a light renkei for 700 dmg, DRG uses Geirskogul and makes ANOTHER light for 700x2 or 1400 dmg ....this can be proceeded by another relic WS for 2800 dmg..and so on and so forth.
