[blue]~~~~~~~(Intro)~~~~~~~[/blue]
I know there are a few threads about Brenner, but a lot of people on my server had no idea what they were doing the first time we played, so I decided to make this. Hopefully it will help a few people.
[blue]~~~~~~~(History)~~~~~~~[/blue]
Volker is the one who introduced the idea for Brenner because he believes we need to "train as a group" and not each individual person. Before the Great War, Brenner was used in the selection of the Gold Musketeers. However the competition was extraodinary fierce, and it is said that the casualties always exceeded the number of successful candidates (Volker says the stories were fabricated simply to exaggerate the danger of Brenner). Brenner was originally created as a training exercise for mineworkers. The outcome of each match relied on the participants skill in role management and encouraged team competition. Volker says that they should do away with the license requirement and nationally restrictions for Brenner and instead make it divided by linkshell! Best part is, when Trion asks where it will be held, Afdeen enters the room. Afdeen's master, the great Abdhaljs has created a new diorama specifically for Brenner. So now, Brenner is back in business.
Brenner is the second form of Conflict on FFXI, but it is from Bastok instead of San d'Oria. I'm thinking this might mean there will be a third from Windurst, but we won't know just yet. Shantotto hints at there being another Conflict type because she says "Okay then, inform me when Windurst is next in line!"
[blue]~~~~~~~(How to enter)~~~~~~~[/blue]
You can gain the ability to enter Brenner by talking to Afdeen at (I-9) in Upper Jeuno. You will then receive a cutscene. After the cutscene you can talk to Afdeen again and get data like when the matches are or you can get a book from him. To enter, ask him for a book or get a book from someone else. Then trade him the book. You will have to pay a small gil fee and you will be teleported to the island. After you are there, go to the Herald and trade him/her the book. He/She will then tell you the information on the current game, and will ask you if you wish to participate. If you accept, you will be put into a team.

[blue]~~~~~~~(Private Prices and Info)~~~~~~~[/blue]
Played Griffons VS Wyverns. Games are 30 minutes long each. These are further divided into regular matches and LS Liga.
Private matches are held by reservation. Reservations for a private match can be made for any free time block up to two days (Earth time) before the match. Private match reservations can be made for any unreserved block up to two Earth days in advance. Same-day reservations can also be made, as long as the Isle is not occupied or reserved by another group.
All Brenner reservation procedures are managed by the NPC Afdeen in Upper Jeuno. If you make a reservation in advance, you will receive a “Brenner Bluebook.” If you make a same-day reservation, you will receive a “Brenner Blackbook.” The Brenner Bluebook and Brenner Blackbook cost 500 gil each.
Using the Brenner Bluebook or Brenner Blackbook as an item will allow you to obtain a “Bluebook page” or a “Blackbook page.” In turn, using a page will create more pages. Trade the pages to prospective participants so that they can also travel to the Isle.
When the reservation comment is set to “Recruiting Members,” prospective participants can receive a Bluebook page simply by speaking to Afdeen.
Private match participants can travel to the Isle by trading a Brenner Bluebook, Brenner Blackbook, Bluebook page, or Blackbook page to Afdeen.
Level 10: 100 gil
Level 20: 200 gil
Level 30: 300 gil
Level 40: 400 gil

[blue]~~~~~~~(LS Liga)~~~~~~~[/blue]
LS Liga is a third kind of Brenner that is played by linkshell members. Players that wish to apply can talk to the Marshal found to the left hand side of Afdeen (if your facing his...face). A fee of 3000 gil will be collected from each participating linkshell's leader upon application. (Thank you to Aj5000)
[blue]~~~~~~~(Basics)~~~~~~~[/blue]
In Brenner, there are 8 Brenners (4 on each side) and when you start, each side has two lit and two not. The objective is to get all of the embers from the enemy torches in your Brenners and keep the enemy from getting yours. The way you do this is you destroy an enemies Brenner, then grab the ember and run back to your Brenner and click on it. It will then be lit.
[blue]~~~~~~~(What's stopping you)~~~~~~~[/blue]
There are Postens (detector looking monsters) that guard the Brenners. If it's your Brenner, you have nothing to worry about. But, these are VERY deadly if it's an enemy's one and they aggro anyone of the opposing side in range, as well as they can move pretty far from their camp (I had one follow me practicly across the entire island)! They can provoke which will force all your magic, attacks, skills, etc, to affect them, and they can cast GA teir 3 spells (e.g. Thundaga III) and teir IV spells (e.g. Thunder IV) as well as ancient magic. These little demons can also stun you with a skill and can hit for a decent amount of damage. Luckily, they are easy to kill, and go down fast. Make sure you're group knows before you charge in though! These can take you out fast if your group doesn't know beforehand. I'm not sure on repop, I'll test it later on. We also believe that Posten's stats and magic depend on the level cap. This will be tested later. Thank you to Krummi (i have no idea why i didn't see that lol, its so obvious =P you win)!
[blue]~~~~~~~(Winning)~~~~~~~[/blue]
After all four of your Brenners are lit (which means none of your enemies are), a countdown will begin. You now have 3 minutes to defend your Brenners. If an enemy destroys one of your Brenners, your countdown will stop and you will have to get the ember again. If you defend your Brenners for the full amount of time, you win. Congratulations.
[blue]~~~~~~~(Dieing)~~~~~~~[/blue]
When you die, you will be resurrected very quickly (maximum I've had is 5 seconds) and be put into a "preparing for battle mode." During this time, you can't cast spells, attack, use items, /quarry or /sprint, or use skills. This will wear off temporarily.
Just like in Ballista, experience points are not lost. Hurray.

[blue]~~~~~~~(Extras)~~~~~~~[/blue]
/sprint and /quarry still work
When casting AOE spells on a Brenner, it will ONLY hit the Brenner, and not enemies nearby. Odd, but not my idea.
Changing equipment will give you a penalty just like on Ballista. This will stop you from moving, using items, skills, magic, etc.
In Ballista the song "You Want to Live Forever?" is used when the game is tied or when you are losing. When your team is winning, the song "March of the Hero" is played. Brenner is the opposite, "You Want to Live Forever?" is played while you are winning or tied and "March of the Hero" is played when you are losing. Oddly, I just played it again and i got "You Want to Live Forever?" when we were losing and "March of the Hero" when we were winning! God I am so confused, I'll fix this one up later.
[blue]~~~~~~~(Translations)~~~~~~~[/blue]
I was gonna put this in extras, but i doubt anyone will look there. A lot of people were wondering and so here they are.
Laisser aller! This means it is the start of the match.

[blue]~~~~~~~(Map)~~~~~~~[/blue]
Here is a map, once again thanks to Katsi!
[blue]~~~~~~~(Aurikan's Notes)~~~~~~~[/blue]
As you can see i havn't had much time to mess with this, schools been getting in the way. So i completely copy/pasted these XD. thank you very much to Aurikan! I will leave a thanks next to your information after i can actually put it into the guide.
-the spells postens can use depends on the cap. StonegaII is devastating in 40 cap. They cast lots of dots which will frustrate mages who just sleep you repeatedly.
-postens will chase any opposing player that they detect; they have no real limit on where they can go. I had one chase me all the way back around the island once. They detect by sound or true sound (never had someone sneak me to test that). when someone attacks the brenner they will periodically reset hate to the person attacking the brenner, regardless of where they are. So, you can't just kite all the postens away permanently.
-postens attached to brenners without flammens will aggro players of the opposite team and hunt them down without mercy. Use this to your advantage to get your postens who don't have a flammen to guard involved in the fight instead of just idling.
-brenners don't regenerate HP. One strategy for winning a close match is to whittle down the opponents flammen-brenners evenly, and then at the end of the match just full-attack and steal their flammens just as time is about to expire.
-when you steal a flammen you have 2 minutes to get it to your own brenner. There is no bonus or penalty for the time it takes to achieve this. Nearing the end of the match, I would tend to hold onto flammens as long as you safely can, since they cannot attack your brenner until you cash in the flammen. One match I stole a flammen with about a minute left to play, and just ran out the back of the opponents base, with the intention of holding it until the match ended. Since only a Paladin was chasing me, I was able to withstand his assault until time expired and we won.
-you permanently gain 1 point every time you steal a flammen, even if your flammen runner gets killed before he returns the flammen. If the other team plays too defensively, a good strategy is to let them hold onto 3 flammens while you protect your own, and just intentionally fail to steal one their flammens to get a point edge. Nearing the end of the match, make sure you bring the flammen balance back to even (shouldn't be too hard since they have 3 brenners to defend and you only have 1) and you will win by virtue of having more steals.
[red]~~~~~~~(IMPORTANT NOTE)~~~~~~~[/red]
You MUST be the level OR a higher level of the cap of the Brenner to enter an offical Brenner (e.g. Official Brenner capped at 50 would mean you must be level 50 or higher to join). Remember though, although you can enter at a higher level than the Brenner level, you WILL be capped at the level once the match starts (e.g. a 70 enters a 50 match, so he will be capped at level 50 once the match begins)!
Hope this helps! Good luck everyone on Brenner and have fun! (If you have additional information, please either post or PM me, thank you!)
