You ever saw the 3rd TMNT movie? Turtles in Time? When I was younger, I just couldn't understand. I'm watching a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie yet.. I'm not enjoying myself. That's what just happened.
It's weird, I had fun, but.. something didn't click.
For starters, the place where you fight is pretty small. I mean, very small. Only thing you can alter is the number of Flammes. Atleast Diorama allowed you to fight on whichever side of the map you want.
This is supposed to be strategy based. Whatever bit of strategy needed for Brenner is tossed out the window thanks to the new death system. Unlike Ballista, there's not even a penalty for dying. In Brenner we just had people zerg rush the Flamme, die and ASAP go back to HP. Only thing lost is TP. Big deal.
Third, is there any way to heal the Flamme? People can just run in, hit and leave. Keep repeating until the thing drops. IMO, this takes away from a certain asspect of strat that could have been applied. Like perhaps make a SC to take it out before Regen kicks in. But no, it just stays like that.
Fourth. The lighting of the Flamme is delayless. You could steal the flame and have a million people on you, but if you touch the Flamme, it's done. Atleast in Ballista there was a delay between scoring the Petras in the Rook. And if you get hit, you gotta stop. No zerg rushing like Brenner.
I dunno. I hope I'm wrong about some of this stuff. But for my first take on it, I'm pretty disappointed. This was a hit. I love competition, but this just didn't live up to my expectations. And when we were out in Upper Jeuno getting ready for another one, a few people agreed with me. Something just didn't click.
How about you all? Did you all feel the same way about this?
Brenner. My(and others) take on the first impression.

Ballista was a huge disappointment when it first came out. It will be tweaked until it is competitive and people like it.
I really can't say right now since I'm not in game (and won't be until March 10). But I do know there will be people that will actually revel in the fact it is not like Ballista. I just hope it isn't like "If you like one, you won't like the other" type of deal because I love Ballista for what it is.

I have to agree. I see the potential for Brenner, but in its present state it's pretty disappointing. I was able to singlehandedly take down the Brenner in the enemy's camp just by heading right for it every time I died, despite how there were at least four people guarding it.
Purgonorgo is too small. I think Brenner would do better in a larger area, like areas for nation Ballista matches, with the camps further apart. That way if you went down, you couldn't reach the enemy camp in one /sprint. I also feel the brenners should have a regen effect. They do recover eventually once destroyed, but I haven't seen one that was damaged recover at all. One or two people can take down a brenner no matter how many opponents are guarding it.
I was really looking forward to the prospect of trying different strategies, but as it stands now, strategy is totally unnecessary.

If you like insane and mindless slaughter, with a tinge of strategy this is for you lol

I really enjoyed it. My first match was pretty much just filled with mindless killing. Afterwards, after people starting to get the hang of the rules, it was extremely fun. Once a Flame gets opened, all hell breaks loose pretty much lol. People start spamming cure on the person with the flame, 5 stun, bind's are cast on the flame holder at once. We tried making our THF take the flame so she could flee back to our brenner, but flee (not sprint) didn't work O_O.

I really enjoyed the couple hours of Brenner I played... The strategy is in dividing people up to defend your flammen-brenners equally as much as you can attack the other team's. Of course there's no strategy if you're not communicating, that's a big part of it. If someone is zerging a brenner you need to allocate more people to the brenner in question to defend it until the brenner regenerates (It does, I'm not sure if it only does that after it's been openned however. If no one takes the flame once it's been openned it closes and regens after about 20 seconds. If you return the flame by killing the flame-bearer, it regenerates automatically).
Maybe I'm just entirely too optimistic. I enjoyed my 2 hour romp through mini-purgonorgo though.

Brenner is very fun and strategic. One time I went straight to a Flammen-Brenner and let people wail on me while an invisible SAM came up
and 2hrd the thing and beat and got the flammen
Boring in low numbers
VERY VERY VERY fun in high numbers

I found that in Ballista the two teams would just stand there staring each other down at some times, too scared to run in and die first, but without anything happening when you get a kill in Brenner, people dont do that.
Also there is much much much less ganking, i was actually left to have a few 1v1's in the middle of the fight without 10 others jumping in.
The first few times are not going to show any strategy, heck i doubt you will see any at all in any of the random matches, but when it gets down to LS vs LS, that is when its going to get intresting, i can see two Brenner onry linkshells having a game of this using chat software like ventrillo being very fun and very intresting.
I like it, Brenner > Ballista.

I had a brief game, and was pretty much unsure what was going on exactly.
But then again so was nearly everyone else. I don't feel i can fully make judgement about the game just yet. Got to wait until people (including myself) are more experienced so we can see how it really plays.
However, the flammen brenners are too close together, not enough "fighting room" between them.

I love it. Its fantastic as it is, and it has so much room to grow (like regen on the flammen). Just not being afraid to get raped and "fail" your team is one reason to play brenner, especially from the point of view of a person that doesn't play ballista a lot. I saw a lot of new faces out there that came out to play, and the results were like 30 on 30 matches. It was pandemoneum, and I loved ever second. Back and forth, back and forth.
The only problems I have with it are the fact that 3 tricked out mnks can pretty much trio the flamen and make off with the goods, even with 30 people on em, unless you use a skillchain to knock em out. But part of the fun is that feeling when you and 15 of yoru guys are all unified in killing ONE person as they run for their damned lives. I dunno, something about it s fresh and fun.
I know I'll be playing both as much as I can, and the best part is that the official matches give the xp bonus 3 times per level-cap, so thats 1.5k merit points for having a great time.

Ye I like how its alot more fast paced than ballista and that people that didnt really like ballista much wanted to try brenner out, which means more people to kill hehe.
Right now its Brenner > ballista, for me.

I didn't like it much either, it's too chaotic and I fucking hated chasing down people who were almost dead who had the flamme and touched the brenner. And those floating balls.... *shutters*
