RDM earrings?

ok, im just curious, since there are a shitload of good endgame earrings RDM can now wear, what's the best combo?


i wanted to have Moldavite + Loquatious for magic attack +5 and fast cast +1, but now there's magnetic and static earrings....

magnetic= MP+20 Conserve MP+5 Spell Interruption Rate-8%
MP Regeneration While Healing+1

static= MND+2 Magic Defense Bonus+2 Bonus Damage Added To Magic Burst


so whats the best endgame combo? or how would i macro each earring in?


edit: which would i use for solo, merit + god? can you get magnetic and static earrings? which is the better earrings of the 2?

Unless you plan on using equipment changing macros i'd say the combination of magnetic with loquatious is best for a combination of fast cast, mp and conserve MP to save you alot in the long run.

I usually find RDM too busy to always land MB however, if you can it'd be nice to have those earrings as well. It's hard to say and those 2 earrings I mentioned aren't exactly easy to obtain so for the time being i'd stick with moldavite and phantom until you can make plans to obtain those other ones.

I use Moldavite + Wizard's for EXP--nice boost to nukage. Loquacious sounds very nice--I might sell my Wizard's if I get it.

I use Merman's x2 for solo.

I'm pretty sure you can't have both Magnetic and Static. They're rewards from a quest available after finishing both RotZ and CoP and you pick one of four.

Between those two, Magnetic seems more likely to be useful in more situations. It'd be good for roaming EXP, Dynamis, HNM, etc. where managing MP is the primary issue. Static would be fun for a "max MB" screenshot, but MB situations don't come up as often endgame as they do in mid-level EXP.

I'm not the richest out there, so some like the Enfeebling Earring and such are out of my reach (well, reasonable reach...obviously I could sell off staves or something and get one). If I had 100mil in cash and not just assets, then probably I'd buy one =P

I tend to try and limit myself to 3-4 earrings on me at a time. Harder now that I've picked up some. I use Suppanomimi, Moldavite, Wizard's, Relaxing, Death, and Geist earrings on RDM (have 2x Morion I never wear on it anymore). Death just because I have a signed one from a friend. Also borrow a Merman's from my BST if I remember to for solo.

I'm considering whether to get a Loquatious or a Brutal earring, saving my coins (53/75). Still want to watch some results be posted about Static and Magnetic before making a final decision. Plus, you know, beat the BC (well, do ZM17, Bahamut, and then the BC).

IMO, the best use of the slot, and the related inventory and macro spaces is with earrings that give things other than base stat boosts. Most of the time, a +1 in another slot about makes up for a stat earring. So unless it's the absolute last thing, not too great.

afaik you can only pick one. out of the two choices I'd go with magnetic over static. As nice as actually getting to mb with rdm is, I'd say in the long run the magnetic would help in more situations, and on more than one mage job if you have others lvled.

I think if/when ten years from now I managed to do that quest, I'd probably do moldy/magnetic for a nice balance, since there no longer any space to do anymore equiment changing @.@;;;;

Oh yeah, silly me... Not very far or fond of CoP or these new quests, so yes I would have to agree that magnetic is definately overall most useful over static. Combine it with moldivate for fairly decent nuking power along with your AF2 boots if you eventually get those too.

But remember the key of red mage is to basically squeeze all the tasks you need to do within your MP pool and keep it going. So that conserve MP will definately come in handly along with a nice boost of MP to your pool. Also MP regen while resting is wonderful to any mage job.

Left earring: Quantz Earring Hume onry Lv55 MP+10 INT+1 MND+1 (You should look into this, ur hume and im sure you'll like this earring)
Right earring: Enfeebling Earring Enfeebling skill +3
Swap in Moldavite Earring for nukes.

ftw.

This is my set up atm and i'm currently looking for cheap communion earring. Maybe that new MND+2 r/x earring that recently came out will do me good but w/e.

Unless you're an MP whore, then you should probably get Astral earring (HP-25/MP+25), Loquatious earring (MP+30) or Magnetic earring (MP+20).

For soloing, Loquatious Earring (Enhance "Fast Cast") is your best bet. Also that Magnetic earring looks quite handy with the MP boost, -spell interruption, conserve mp, and +1mp regen while healing (wtfbbq thats awesome ; wink.gif. NEVER evasion gears.. ever pls.

Right now I use Magnetic earring and Astral earring.
Still debating if I should use my ancient coins right now (have enough) to get Laq. earring or
wait until I get my other item for AF+1 body.. I am kinda interested in getting myself on of those
and just sell of errant/mahatma body.. I'll see how next Limbus duo with Blilian goes hehe.

I also carry around a Moldavite earring though for when I nuke.

Honestly I don't think you can get it all from 2 earrings, you will need macro switches.
Earrings I can think of out of my head are; Novio, Moldavite, Enfeebling, Astral, Laquatious, Magnetic/Static, Phantom +1, Communion (+1).
There's honestly so many out there if you wanna do your total best.
I'd say Magnetic and Laquatious earring would do the trick though.. that's a good combo for me.

I've said it before, I will say it again.

Gods or really resistent HNM's = Enfeebling Earring + Communion (or Static Earring)
Swap in Loquacious Earring + Heaven's Earring+1 for general support (Fast Cast and -enmity ftw)

On Lesser HNM's (ie the ones that don't resist much) = Loquacious + Communion (Static) - I like to load up on MND if resist isn't an issue.

XP PT (Support + Main Healer) = Loquacious + Heaven's Earring+1 (or if you are MP whore, go for Magnetic)
XP PT (Enfeebler) = Loquacious + Communion
XP PT (All in 1) = Loquacious + Anything you want

Nuking = Moldavite + Elemental Earring / Wizard Earring (or when MB-Static Earring)

Resting = Relaxing Earring + Boroka (Magnetic)
I have all earrings above (except static and magnetic) , and swap accordingly depending on what I am fighting.
Still deciding which to choose, and prolly get Static earring tomorrow, coz I play BLM quite a lot too! hehehe

I count nine earrings there. Given our limitations on inventory space and macro lines, are those really the most influential swaps to be making? It's an impressive collection, but are you really prescribing things like Heaven's+1? My server doesn't even have an AH history for that item.

I do not bring all earrings with me.
When I go gods, I just bring the main 4, ie Enfeebling, Hvn+1, Communion, and Loquacious. (NO NUKING) Hell I don't even bring HMP Relaxing Earring as I doubt I will need 'em.
When I go XP, it all depends on am I main healer, or what.

Ask yourself this question. If you are BLM, do you think you carry whole set of Elemental Magic + Equip all around? LOL.
Just bring whatever you see fit for each and every situation.

The number 1 rule of FFXI, "EVERYTHING is situational"

Edit: Regarding limited Macro lines.
I don't really see an issue. It's just 1 hit of a macro, and I swap 6 equip from enfeebling > support setup
I have 3 important macros:-

Support
2 earrings > other 2
Prism/Altruistic > Errant Cape
AF1 Body > Dalmatica
etc..

Resting Macro (I use Ctrl+H and save the /heal line)
2 earrings > 2 Hmp earrings
Dalmatica > Mahatma Houp
Pluto Staff
etc..

Get Ready Macro
Basically Reversing everything into work clothes

I don't really see a problem though.

I'll give my basic advise on what is easily obtainable to a new high level RDM, seeing as the poster is only 61 I don't think it should be advised that he start saving for his comm. earring and heavens+1 (no offense wopadobop).

For nuking I go with the moldivite and wizard's. You can spend the extra money on an elemental earring, which is probably out of reach at this time for you, or use the wizard's as long as your subbing /blm. If you've kept up with your CoP that your close enough to get magnetic/static I'm going to say go for the magnetic. Only reason I see for static is to boost your max damage MB which no one, but MAYBE other rdms, will be impressed when you break 1k damage >< The +2MND I don't believe makes up for the +20MP and conserve MP. If your going to worry that much about +2mnd then get a comm. but at your level that kinda of money is probably better spent on other equipment.

For parties you can pick up a Quantz's Earring from ENM60 in mine shaft. It will provide you with +1int/mnd +10mp and its ALMOST free, have to gamble with the goblin >< I'm going with magnetic for the other slot here as well. Loq. is nice, on my server coins are going for 300k, but your going to be spending about 22.5m. You could farm the coins but then you will miss out on the Nashira Seraweels which Nashira Seraweels > loq. earring by a long shot. If you go with a limbus group, generally I see about 4 coins per person(we go with about 12 people) and at that average its going to take you 2 and 1/2 months. Again though you should probably sell the coins for other equipment and worry about loq. later.

Gods Id go with enfeebling earring but those are rather expensive as well. Magnetic will be nice as you'll probably be curing...alot!....Quantz's Earring or any other combination of int/mnd that you can get on the slot will work nicely too.

Solo Id go with Supp. and Magnetic for the spell interupt down as well as the conserve mp(not sure if this has been tested to work w/o blm sub though). And you can swap out the Supp. for loq. earring when you obtain both when recasting shadows.

I believe these are good starting points for you and once you have obtianed other, more important, equipment you can start to justify the cost of some of those other earrings.

For a more realistic choice, as said before quantz earring would be good for a hume to get +stats. Setups:

Enfeebling: Enfeebling Earring (get some peeps to do the ENM with you for earring usage) and Quantz for Hume
Nuking: Moldavite and Wizards for BLM sub, or Quants when not using BLM sub
Support/Healing: Magnetic and Loq earring
Resting: Relaxing and Magnetic


Thats 7 earrings, which is a lot for me. As I don't have all that crap, I usually leave Moldavite in one ear, and switch in Suppa, Wizard, or Morion depending on my needs. I'm working on enfeebling and magnetic next. Loq I can do without, +MP/Fast Cast isn't a huge issue for me.

Slot2: Abyssal (I'm poor) ~ Geist (Hella poor)

D: Maybe Diabolos Earring for melee, but meh.

I MB with Enfeebs on HNMs
and um, yeah w/e.
