i have a theory as to why attendance has dropped save in a few cap ballista.
one is the multi hit nerf. that probably had the biggest impact on ppl. in case you haven't noticed people in this game go crazy over big numbers. seeing a 1k+ ws go across their screen is like a kid at a candy store seeing his favorite candy bar.
two: the overall progression of the server. i don't know about you guys, but buying gear for 30,40,50,60 and uncap ballista is a pain in the ass, one i'd rather not even try to keep track of. i have 4 lvl 65+ jobs, and keeping gear for all of them is enough trouble, yet alone for all cap ballista. basically as ppl lvl up, their interest in lower cap ballista is gonna decline.
3: the overall domination of certain jobs in some ballista's. war/nin in 30 cap, nin/blm in 40 cap (yes, i said nin/blm.) 50cap is blm, sam(with pole merits) and mnk. 60caps and uncaps there is some domination of certain jobs, but overall it's pretty balanced. any job can come to the feild and kick butt really. mnk is a tad overpowered in uncaps, but a good sam/drg can humiliate the hell outta a mnk. (ever seen a sam "go off" using sub drg?? it's nasty shit... 1.8k dmg in about 5 seconds if no shadows.)
anyway, that's probably the main reason why attendence is down on all servers.
This is how sad Ballista on Unicorn is

I love Ballista, but oftentimes I'm busy with RL stuff when matches roll around. Otherwise I'm there...I actually played a match with Zeh the other day.

I've never participated in Ballista. I don't like PvP, never have, never will. You can blame Tibia for that (died 3 times in one day just by saying, "Hello." to people) and Graal for showing me how sad it can get (people were killing me with shrubs, SHRUBS!). It's because of the completely optional aspects of RO's and FFXI's PvP aspects that endears to me. You don't have to participate in it at all, it's entirely it's own thing. Maybe other people have embraced this and have returned to the true heart of the gameplay in FFXI, the monster killing and storylines. And this is a game rich with storylines with a new one coming in April. How cool is that, eh?

and this is why i like being on Siren.
Ballista is fun, and is played right (best to my knowledge at least).

Yeah, when I came back for Break, the situation wasn't bad at all actually. True, during NA hours like in the afternoon, nobody shows up. But at night, or during JP hours, plenty of matches seem full (and fun). In fact, during one of the matches, the score ended like 246-248. (Hey, we lost, but not often you play a game THAT intense. More should be like that.)

Ballista does get dull...
I've played ballista since they released it (well, not until they made the min requirements per team 3, opposed to 6 back then), and I liked it, a lot.
But there are many flaws about ballista, here is one of them, this is probably the most important:
- When you're losing badly, you usually don't have fun and get tired of it quickly.
Now various games have that, but FPSs, RTSs, sometimes even some RPGs; I still have fun losing/trying to win/getting beat up.
But ballista, no... When you lose, it is really horrible.
You respawn, you walk out, you die, have fun for another 50 minutes of the same thing.
Other problems:
- Teammate(s) dies on purpose, literally on purpose.
- Teammate(s) get DCed or leave during match.
- Arguements and insults thrown at each other
- Some 1v1 matches, sometimes it's fun and good to have when half of the other team left or so, but sometimes it just gets out of hand.
- Imbalanced stacking, now to make the example of it easier, remember rangers before the ranged nerf?
Well, when three rangers on the other team, and none on yours, have a great time getting killed...
There are some other examples of stacking, which unfortunately sometimes happens.
- Teams run away and hide
This problem may occur, but rarely, it does occur sometimes.
It has to do with the other team winning, lets say there is about 15 minutes left, now instead of the other team fighting, they run the whole time, preventing us from getting gate breach...
- Multi-hit nerf, now I play as both a mage and a melee, I don't mind getting "one" hitted by a multi hit ws from time to time, but it's really not as "fast-paced" as it was, and it was fun to see how much damage you could do with them.
Non gameplay related problems:
- Not getting much out of ballista, exp is nice when they added it, gil is ok too... but really it doesn't give you much.
Brenner:
It's like ballista, it's not fun when you're losing badly, it gets old fast, and it has similar problems ballista has.
Fixing ballista ideas:
- Multi-hit nerf, they could allow multi-hit on some areas. Like sometimes Jugner forest has the multi-hit damage nerfed, sometimes it will be Meriphataud Mountains. It could be just one area or two out of the three, but it shouldn't affect all types of ballista/brenner.
I'm not sure about how they could fix some of these problems but I made a post about a way they could expand the ballista points system significately, in this topic.

To make ballista fun again they need to un-nerf melee, AND magic. Resists and dmg taken. So the BLM or WAR. does full dmg with thunder IV / rampage..
then give everyone double HP and MP. Thats it.

So...basically the end result is the same? Melees and mages alike cannot one shot?
I mean sure, BLMs will put up 1.1k damage Thunder IVs, and Rampages will also do around that much, at least compounded with Souleater, but with double HP, it still won't one shot. How would it be any different than the current situation, except to please the people with Big Numbers Syndrome?
