Imagine if they allowed this... mnks could skillup guard faster, it wouldn't be so boring for us, just some extra incentive for more people to play.
Stop gimping ballista damnit and make it more appealing so people actually show up.
Plds could raise shield and parry skill, as well as nins/wars etc...
And mages could also skillup whatever it is they needed....
It makes sense right? Being able to get skillups while fighting each other in combat.
Just a thought to improve the game for everyone, because we know how hard it for melees to level those elusive skills.
~your thoughts?
SE should allow Skillups in Pvp matches to raise participation.

I think its a very good idea. Mages could get those seldom seen combat skill-ups. (evasion from being beat on
and perhaps other things if they're feeling adventerous)
But.... this would be abused. Imagine starting a Diorama match with 2 ppl. They can just skill on each other with no gear, and low level weapons. They wont kill each other, and they both get skill-ups. This could even be done in real ballistas also, just interference would be a problem.

hmm, they would have to tweak it so that the skill would vary between the appropriate levels of level cap.
And maybe just allowing skillups in the official matches to prevent abuse from people in private ballista...

The idea is good, but it would have to only pertain to official matches.

Exactly why there is no skillups allowed. Diorama would always be reserved and it would be just peeps skilling up on each other. Even if it was just official matches, there would be those who would just go to a remote area and skillup.

Eh I don't think it's necessary honestly especially in an official match. I'm sure on every server the people who play Ballista regularly are in the minority and the people who've been playing for awhile would be annoyed with the fact that a bunch of gimps are only joining just to get skill ups and not necessarily to play the game.
If it's for incentive to get more people to play Ballista, I'm sure there are better ways to do that than this.

I'd rather have a quest (like the escort quests) that gave a reward of, say, 1 to 10 points of skill in a combat or magic skill of your choice, max once a week.

Yeah, once I got first place on the entire ranking system in some area (jugner I think), and I got 450 exp, somebody else got 500 exp (not sure, never got 500 exp before).
TBH, I think skill ups can work, just in offical matches, and you can get it based on level cap.
Example:
Level 30: Levels 70+ to skill up (all the way to the cap)
Level 40: Levels 100+ to skill up (all the way to the cap)
Level 50: Levels 130+ to skill up (all the way to the cap)
Level 60: Levels 160+ to skill up (all the way to the cap)
Level 75: Levels 200+ to skill up (all the way to the cap)
This might work...
Speaking of increased participates in ballista, one idea I thought of was to increase the point limit to 50,000(?) or so. You can purchase key items and equipment for ballista only using the key items.
Example of rewards:
Key items:
Ballista bag, costs 5,000 points - Increases your temp. item inventory by +5, only in offical matches, only if the MC allows "extra ballista key items" option.
Quarrying gloves, costs 10,000 points - Decreases your chance of finding nothing using /quarry
Ballista bag +1, costs 25,000 points and must have Ballista bag key item - Further increase your temp. item inventory by +5, making it a total of +10.
Points band, costs 40,000 points - Doubles the amount of ballista points gained, but does not apply to rankings*
*So if you get 200 points, with the Points band you get 400, but in rankings it says you've received only 200 points.
**DOES NOT APPLY TO OTHER BONUSES, I've listed other methods of getting extra ballista points further down this post, this key item does not double the bonuses, it only applies to your base earnings.
Experience band, costs 50,000 points - Doubles the amount of experience you gain from participating in ballista.
Equipment:
Ballista boots, costs 2,500 points - DEF: 10~30(level 30 cap gives 10 defense, 40 cap gives 15, 50 gives 20, etc) "Decreases duration of Gravity and Bind".
Ballista ring, costs 5,000 points - Increases Resistance to All Status Ailments
"Outside items"
Items:
Miratete's Memoirs, costs 5,000 points - Increases experience by 500-1500 when used.
Key items:
K.O. Reducer, costs 50,000 points - Decreases experience lost from K.O.(or death) by 10%, permanent key item you always have.
Extra Rewards:
Bonus 100 ballista points when being in places #4-10 in rankings.
Bonus 200 ballista points for 3rd place in rankings.
Bonus 300 ballista points for being 2nd place in rankings.
Bonus 500 ballista points for being 1st place in rankings.
Notes: All bonuses does not apply to rankings.
Ballista Coupon, for being 1st in rankings of your job - 500 points worth of ballista points that can be exchanged or used to reduce the price of any *TEMP. CONSUMABLE ballista items.
*Items such as potions, revitalizers, etc. When used on something that costs more than 500 points, for example, if the item costs 1,000 points, using the coupon will reduce the price to 500 ballista points.
Bonus 300 ballista points for being top Petra scorer.
Extra earnings:
-All players will receive an extra 100 ballista points (does not apply to rankings) for every 4 extra players entered in ballista; applies AFTER there are 6 total players, so at 10 TOTAL players everyone receives an extra 100 points.
Max of an extra 3,450 ballista points, if there are 144 players entered in an offical ballista match.
-All players will receive an extra 50 experience points for every 4 extra players entered in ballista; applies AFTER there are 6 total players, so at 10 TOTAL players, everyone will receive an extra 50 points.
Max of an extra 1,725 experience points, if there are 144 players entered in an offical ballista match.
*Encourages larger ballista matches. If there is some linkshell event with two linkshells, that all members participate, thats a lot of extra points.
My comments: Ok this is an example, and the points aren't exactly "balanced"; I mean, 25,000 points for an extra 5 temp inventory isn't exactly the right price for that key item.
It'll definately make me play ballista more because I would like to play for fun but also to accomplish other stuff.

i agree with SE should encourage more ballista in some way
but i think adding skill-up to ballista might have other unwanted effects.
like many above me said,
doing so is really gonna change what ballista is.
I would like to see some visible awards (name color change, aura, star hats)
given to the MVP of each ballista
till the next ballista.
for this MVP idea to work
i guess SE has to re-define the point systems
more on the basis of player's contribution to the team.
but oh well ^^

I think it would be a bad idea.
Imagine if you wanted to level your parry/shield etc, all you would have to do is get your monk friend and let him hit you. When your almost dead just have him stop.... Kind of a cheap way out and I'm sure many people would do things similar to this.
