Going along with NinjaGeorge's idea, why not make a key item reward (exchanged for BP) that allows you to skillup? Make it like 5000BP, or something relatively high, as to not allow every Jim Bob and Jane have access to it, but to give incentive to people who play ballista fairly regularly. 5000BP is twenty-five matches, at the least.
SE should allow Skillups in Pvp matches to raise participation.

The mutli-hit ws gimp turned me off from ballista, I only play 30 and occasionally 60 now. T.T

I think Ballista/Brenner should be an alternative to actual exping to a certain extent. If they wanted to make it so that people would replace PvP as exp and even skill-up they would have to put a much higher lvl of effort to people forming party/alliance tactics so players would be able to actually still learn party dynamics and such. Honestly I think SE should make PvP at least a way for you to gain reasonable merit exp because lets face it 80% of people I find think that exping gets really boring after a short period of time. I don't think something like 2-4 PvP matchs = 1 merit point would be bad the average party can easily get over 5-6k a hr easily. Either way, whether it's add more gil to be won, actual gear you can use, or exp/skill/merits, they need to add more incentive to PvP in this game. The games are fun but honestly atm they are nothing but time filler I haven't even played Brenner yet because I haven't had time.

They really need to add something, I remember the old days when ballista came out first as sort of a failure because it kept getting canceled, then they made many changes which made it popular.

It's fine the way it is. I'd much rather play with 5-6 people who are interested in the game and willing to put up a challenge than 10-12 who don't care as long as they get their rewards.

Well, If someone is playing ballista, even just for skill ups/rewards/etc, they'll probably do their best. Might as well have fun at the same time (and get better rewards for better players).
