As you can

tell by my profile I'm neither of these jobs, and yes I do want to change my current main. Let's face it, DRK

is near the bottom of the list when it comes to job reputation, which is a big part of this game. I like the job,

but damn, I don't have to time seek for 12 hours. Making my own parties is an option, but quite frankly I hate

doing that. Just don't have the patience for it. I also got tired of always being overlooked for missions,

quests, bcnms, etc. I don't want to get into arguments about my decision, I'm just asking for you're help.

Especially if any of these jobs are your mains, and you've been lvl 75 for some time.

I pretty much like

all of these jobs the same so just picking the one I like the most is kinda hard. My questions are not about who

does the most damage, but about participation.

Which job is preferred in the other aspects of the game

(HMN, BC/KSNMs, missions, quests, etc.) , besides XP party?

Can you give me a general idea of what each of

this jobs does in average HMN fight? What's their role, in other words.

I know WAR and MNK have a great

time in merit parties, but what about SAM? How hard is it for SAMs to gain merit points.

Thanks all, I

really appreciate it.

uhh

well if you dont want to seek party for an incredibly long time i reccomend you pick none of them

as far as

being the most requested/needed melee of those 4 goes... id say go with SAM they are one of the most needed if not

the most needed melee job you will STILL probably have to seek parties for a long time........... as sam im

assuming anywhere from 1 second to 5 hours you lfpt 12 hours as your drk... thats nuts i dont think its your jobs

reputation... but rather your reputation... your gear probably sucks and you probably pop souleater for regular

hits and leave it on and almost die (no offense.... but lfpt 12 hours theres a reason ppl hating you)

but

face it if you play any melee job you will not get parties fast... seeing as your competing

with
DRK
DRG
MNK
NIN (not rlly used as DD till end game)
RNG
SAM
THF
WAR

all of

them for a spot as a 1 of 2 of a standard PTs melees

and theres alot of each of them lfpt at any given

time

most invites for melees are based on a SC being a sam gives you an advantage on this however,
66-

70 for you as a SAM... it will be a living nightmare... due to the fact you cant make light skillchain and you can

make darkness but it will suck because youd be scing ... with your tank...but if you can make it through to lvl 71

your pretty much set from there

also lvl 1-60 will probably piss you off because ppl will force you to use

Tachi : Enpi ALOT for the generic as hell distortion SC

if you go mnk... then get used to making your own

parties from 1-64..............................

though to tell the truth when i played WAR to 59 i got

invites fairly quickly till about 57 when there started to be an overpopulation of melee DD that lvl

also

WAR is probbably wanted about the same as SAM end game

i played drk to 70 and i never waited more than 5

hours for a pt.... if i waited 5... i gave up it typically sucked ass and was a wait of 1-3 hours though... and

that sucked... you should be more open to creating your own parties because you know who the last person who

invited you was?... a person in the same situation as you... sick of waiting but not a pussy who is scared of the

yellow dot by his name marking him as leader if everyone was like you... pts would not exist there would be like

100 ppl lfpt 24 hours a day

in summary..............

if you wanna quit....
SAM and WAR are more

appreciated

MNK waits are worse than DRK

you more than likely WILL go through the same thing when

your new jmelee ob gets to be around lvl 57

good luck lol :dontgetit

As a

WAR 75, I can assure you its not much better than DRK exp invites. MNK doesn't get that great of invites either

because people think they're weak at the low and medium levels (its not true). Another part of the problem is

simply because WAR and MNK are not "advanced jobs" (meaning quested jobs), they look "plain" and "less cool"

because of it. And yes that does hurt the amount of people playing/inviting those jobs. Although as of late I

guess WAR and MNK are becoming the latest bangwagon jobs. :|

Anyway if you really want a good melee job at

75 without waiting too long for invites, then Ninja is the best choice. It too is a very popular job, but

regardless, they get pretty good invites since 99% of all exp parties need tanks. Ninja end-game is also extremely

"powerful" in a variety of ways. That said, out of the 3 you listed, if you had to be one of those jobs, I'd pick

WAR. Its a lot of fun, especially if you have multiple subs leveled, ninja is NOT the only good sub for warrior.

You get more weapons skills than any other job, WAR SATA Ground Strike works pretty good on HNMs, so does Steel

Cyclone. As for MNK and SAM? Both great jobs no doubt.

Woah....

let me clear a few things here.

I've been playing for 2 years. I have amassed about 10 mil in gear on my

DRK in that time.

I have leveled WAR, THF, SAM, NIN, DRG, and RDM all to 37. I have read all the "DRK

guides" to try to become the best DRK I can be.

I have a full understanding of what stats do.

I

don't spam Souleater. The way I use Souleater is dependent on the quality of the tank. When I get a crappy tank,

I don't even use it all, because I'm usually tanking half the fight with only food as my buff.

I have

tried to find the best time to use Absorb spells, which seems to be right before a big wave of damage. Like a SC

and MB. I use Abs-VIT before the SC, and Abs-MND before the MB.

I hardly ever miss a stun. Sometimes I

even help WAR/NINs (or sucky NIN/WARs) tanks recast shadows with stun (not many other DRKs do that).

So

far I've been keeping my enfeebling magic capped by casting on high lvl worms. I have helped my fare share of

parties by sleeping adds that the BLM failed to.

I leveled cooking to 48 just so I could make my own

juices, so as to not bog down a party by needing Refresh.

I hate saying this but, the only remarks I have

received from parties are praises (and not just with DRK).

Lastly, I don't level like a maniac, so I

hardly have any rep of any kind.

Damn, now I sound like I'm showing off. Anyways, DRKs status in the

game has gone way down. I can tell you this for a fact because I took a break at 55 to lvl up all those sub-jobs.

When I left I could get an invite almost whenever I sleeked. Now I have been trying to get 60 and Guillotine ever

since January. I've busted my ass off to be the best I can be, and it didn't get me anywhere, and end-game also

doesn't look too promising for DRK, and neither does finishing my missions. Well, I just wanted you guys to share

you're experiences to make my decision a little easier.

Nevil :

I boot DRKs from PTs if they don't do

that. 90% of the time Stun is why I invite a DRK to a PT, 'cos BLMs are either casting something else of sitting

on their arse 90% of the time a stun is needed.

Aeroga :
MNKs pwn^^

MNKs pwn XP/Merit PTs. However, they (currently at least) have the most boring engame experience of them

all.

WARs are nearly as good at Merit as MNKs, but they have enough weapon options that they can do

something for HNM work.

SAM are slightly weaker than the other two at XP (not much, mind), but few melee

can match the regular and reliable SAM damage output on HNM.

DRK, for what it's worth, do awesome

damage on that one strike. One who has an actual appreciation of their magic, hate line, and the HP/damage trade

off inerent in Souleater, and is on the ball with stun, is a joy to PT with. There are not many of those.

I

would not give up DRK to go to another melee if I were you, it is not that much different.

Reputation is

what you make of it. Do not think because your a "DRK" thats the reason invites are slow.

If anything,

switching to a tank or mage type might give you the invites you want. Bottom line is there are more melee types

in this game than anything else.

Edit: the 50's is the worst time to be a DRK. I am telling you from

experiance because it took me nearly 5 months to get out of the 50 - 60 level range. DRKs at that range just do

not have any WS yet to differenciate them from any other melee. From experiance, life of a drk gets better 60+.

If you can hold out and build your rep you will see what i mean.

If your

concern is invites, pick WAR out of those 3.

"Axeburn" PTs, despite the idiotic fucking name, are the

current trend in FFXI.

All of them

in general are comparable in invite rates and all of them will have their shortcomings. If you want to be a DRK,

by all means go for it. I'm slowly chugging my way on my MNK and it's pretty difficult because I often get

overlooked for a THF/SAM/WAR in most cases. Not to mention there's a overflow of DD jobs to begin with compared

to Tanks/Support jobs.

In any case, if you really do want to change your main the only way to find out

which job of the three you listed is to try them out yourself quite honestly. I've leveled both WAR and SAM for

subjobs and I wasn't exactly thrilled with either job. Some people may really like either or both jobs but I

didn't have the urge to play it. People will have different ideas on what's "fun and enjoyable" and the only

person who can decide that is yourself.
