Square
Enix has been referring to the new city in Aht Urghan as being less like the other expansion cities, and more
"something along the lines of Jeuno" where high level players congregate, go about their daily business, find
parties, etc.
My question is, anyone have any ideas on how they are going to get players to use this city
in this way? I think it's really essential that players hang around the new city, or the expansion will be 100%
lame. What's the point of "besieged" for example if the city is a ghost town?
So I'm hoping that they
will do it somehow... but how?
First, why do people hang around in Jeuno so much? I think it can be
narrowed down to three major points:
Jeuno is heavily populated because:
1. It is centrally located
2.
It is connected to each outlying city directly by a quick and easy mode of transportation
3. The Jeuno Auction
House is the current location for purchase and sale of high level gear, because of the first two reasons
I
think for any large number of players to spend any large number of time in Aht Urghan instead of Jeuno, the three
aspects of Jeuno must be replicated, meaning, the new city must be easy to reach from any major city
(airship, or boat from each city would suffice), there must be chocobo use there, and The Auction House should be
connected to the AH in Jeuno.
In addition, there has to be some other outside incentive to make people
switch...
Possibilities I can think of:
1. Make repeatable quests/missions (like the kind
one might do on a daily basis) with really useful, unique rewards (including significant experience rewards)
accesible ONLY by spending lengthy time in the new city.
2. Make the areas around the city uniquely qualified
for 73+ experience parties. This would be a huge incentive for high levels to hang around considering how
inconvenient endgame exp areas are currently.
3. Make Chocobo Breeding/Racing/Riding of your own Choc possible
only through spending lengthy time in the new city. Interest in this hobby alone would bring huge masses of
players in. This seems unlikely though as SE has already stated that Choc breeding will be availiable to everyone
regardless of level, so it will probably be located in the main 3 cities.
4. Create a free portal/tranportation
device directly from Lower Jeuno to the main part of the new city simply once your character has achieved a
certain level.
5. NPC's/Shops selling useful items that one cannot aquire in any other way, or that provide a
service that is useful and cannot be replicated.
Any other ideas?
I would just be hugely
disappointed if we ended up with another city like the Tav. Safehold - cool looking city with colorful characters
and great plot, but NO ONE GOES THERE because it's completely useless for anything outside of CoP.

Dream on.
- Aside from that, I thought the rest of your ideas were good and
realistic.

Hehe.
Point taken...
though I really just meant that if SE somehow combined questing for drops/quest rewards
with exp than many people would be attracted to the city. The ENM's are already moving in this direction with
thier exp rewards so it wouldn't be totally unprecidented.
It shouldn't be so much exp that it's like
the most efficent way to get exp. Just... it's nice to be able to do more than one thing at once instead of
money-making, leveling, and questing being so separate most of the time.

If they
connected that little closed off area in Jeuno (by neptune's tower I think) to the new Aht Urghan city (making it
faster then waiting for airships but only accesible to high lvl players) and if SE did the rest of the things you
suggested then by all means would a majority of the high lvl players would flock to Aht Urghan. Least this is what
I think is all

Is anyone
else tired of bugging LS members to check AH for suchandsuch? I mean, do we really need 5 seperate Auction Houses?
In most MMO's there is a single bazaar in a mid-to-high level domain, one per server. Instead of worrying about
creating extraneous cities and ports of commerce, maybe SE should try to fix some of the innate problems that the
game's had since insep.
Personally, I'd like to see some NPC shops that sell /reasonably priced/ gear
that people actually use when they aren't in the beginning levels of their character. Of course, we need to
consider how that will affect the purpose of synth abilities, but that's a whole other tangent.
I guess I
just want it fixed, not expanded, at this point.

Umm, are you saying
that only high lvls should go to the Empire only? Or Are you saying tha the area zones surrounding the Empire
should be for +73 players?
Im confused by that :S, sorry.

SE has already Stated that ToA will be aimed at the higher lvl players. Depending on SE opinion of
high lvl that could be anywhere from 50-75. I think it will most likley be 65+.

yes and by
the movies of the fights it looks like nothing is going to be cuddly anymore. also looks like Charm and maybe
Death will be used more in this expansion (by enemies of course). expansion looks AMAZING. i dont plan on playing
the new jobs just yet, but i do want to see whats in store for new jobs (especially rdm) via merits, new armor,
weapons, etc.
