Well I can't help you but Samurai and the Warrior will help the party/clan alot. So if you like Samurai movies then the Samurai job is for you. Plus if you like to help your friends Sam is great.

I think Warrior sub probably will give you the most benifits.
at lvl 30/15 sam/war you will get beserk which increases your attack power. (since you are taru I wouldnt expect many parties to want you to tank anyways so beserk as often as needed)
at lvl 50/25 sam/war you get defender and double attack.
defender for hard situations
double attack will help with your tp gain (I am not sure about this) and also help you deal more dmg
Oh and you get provoke for just in case situations
Some people will suggest monk sub..... I tried it when I was lvl 31 not much use for it besides at latter lvls you get focus which increase your accuracy. boost stacks but berserk lasts for a longer duration.
for taru though you will get a needed hp boost with monk sub
As for other subs I havent tried them so I will refrain from making comments.

Sneak and trick are weakened as, but they'll still give you a nice boost during a weapon skill. Gil finder and treasure hunter are always fun as well.

sneak and trick arent weakened they will only give you a regular critical hit which is by itslef pretty good top have a assured critical a minute

Hey everyone, I'm first time poster, ( i just figured out how), but i've been reading info on this site FOREVER! This site owns btw, nice job to all the moderators and people that put it together. I am currently a level 34 sam/thf, and I think theif is probably the best subjob for samurai. You get tons of TP, and Sneak+WS kicks major ass. All the rangers love me
. I can't wait to get my Samurai up to level 60 so I get sneak attack, trick attack, and fast TP build. Plus the weapon skill that a samurai gets around level 60 (200 combat skill) kicks major ass.

Another useful sub is Ranger. Since Samurais are fairly decent with the bow, they can also use skills from Sidewinder and down. It really depends on what you want to play.
Cookie-cutter type characters are not the end-all. They're there just to assist new players. Feel free to try out whatever you want, as long as you do your job properly, nobody can blame you.

I have a question, I am getting the PS2 version next month, and would Samurai/Ninja be a good choice too make?

Kojiro, I would have to say not really. Samurai's tend to be big users of the great katana, which uses 2 hands. Ninja's give you the ability to equip 2 *1* hand weapons, and that is kind of the big thing for ninja subs, for that ability. The ninjutsu they offer can help of course. But as far as all out usefulness, Warrior sub would be best

Perrhin,
Being a sam/thf I do get first picked over others. Definatly sam/wars. I do tons more damage, and usually there are paladins or warriors that can provoke and keep the agro for the battle. If I plan ahead of fights, and use sneak attack so that as soon as I enter battle, I can use my weapon skill and then meditate and do the same a minute later with sneak attack. Therefore, I not only do lots of damage, I do it often. I'm not sure how skillchains work, but I've found that if there is a theif or a ranger, we can usually do our weaponskills for a combined amount of damage around 500-750. Today, the thief in my party sneaked+tricked+viper bite after I sneak+ tachi: enpi with 290 TP. The distortion did 3-- damage. I was amazed. As for party invites, those are a pain. No matter what job, or level, after 35 you usually have to wait tons of time for invites. That's why I can't wait to catch up to my linkshell.

for party i definately go SAM/WAR.
For general solo until i get SAM to lv 50, i go with my monk sub for the counter, dodge, added hps and boost. The only bad thing about counter is you don't gain extra TP when it goes off.
As for SAM/WAR at lv 50/25 you should gain extra TP off the double attack. because being a WAR with it, you would gain extra TP when it went off. Bezerk is really useless unless you aren't tanking. Which 90% of the time i'm either main or secondary tank. Warcry is much more useful for added attack/aggro control, without the negative defense. You take nearly twice the damage as normal with bezerk, so unless you are galka, it sucks overall.
But i would only sub THF when you are out solo or helping to farm special items. that is of course if you have a lv 15+ thief for treasure hunter.

sam/war will not get extra TP for double attack because the TP counter still counts it as one hit... for your sub job the best one really depends on your race as well for instance if you are elvaan they have really bad dex which effects you accuracy so then your best sub job would be the ninja because they do have the highest dex bonus and if you compare the stats between having a ninja or warrior as your sub job ninja and war have the same str. int. mnd. and chr. but the ninja gives you more dex, vit, and agi of course you will be sacrificing about 50hp but once you start hitting higher lvls 50hp is not that big of a deal considering you should not be tanking and all your artifact armor adds about 100 hp to you anyways... and your sub job will not effect your invites to PT people invite you because you are a samurai and a master at renkai not because of what your sub job is

enpi -> sa/ta/viper sc dmg does 200-450+ doesnt matter what your tp or your sub is
tons more dmg ... not really, your normal dmg is weaker than war sub doing berserk + war sub has double att, your sa/ws deals more dmg but sam/war build tp a lil bit faster with double att that allow faster sc with others ... which is what sam is for, like i could 1st ws once myself at beginning, then meditate 2nd ws sc with thf or nin, collect tp from double att and 3rd ws sc w/ a rdm or pld. this opens up dmg for all and yield better xp.
the way i see it, thf sub is good for drops, steal, and eventually ta ... war sub can take hits with hp/def bonus + defender if they need to ... each has its own purpose, depends on how you build the whole pt, u choose diff people.
Switch-ollie , double att does build two tp hits, not 1.... unless you miss. it just scores the tp together in a big one.
anyway tons more dmg ... only exist in sam/rng ... any other sub... just diff style of playing

Each SJ has it's place, and it's best to have them all lv'd so you can use them to best fit into a party setup.
