Depends on where you mine. Some mines will give you more ores that you can level off right there while others will take some pre-leveling for you to actually craft them on the spot. Keep in mind also, you're never going to HQ ingots except for iron ingots, which can HQ into steel ingots. PRetty weird, huh? Regardless, you'll probably have to take the very ingots you make and use them to make bridge gaps for other ores. Example: use copper and tin ores to make bronze ingots to Smithing 2, maybe take the space tin ores to make tin ingots to Smithing 15, and complete it off with the iron ores you get to make iron ingots to Smithing 20. But, you'll at least nee to take those bronze ingots and bridge the gap between Smithing 2 and Smithing 15 because you essentially won't get skill-ups off any gaps greater than 5 levels (8 with adv. synthesis support).

48 iron ores = 48 inventory spaces.
48 iron ores = 12 iron ingots = 1 inventory space.

Raise Smithing / GSmithing to a level where you can craft the ingots form all your common ores and you'll increase your mining yields significantly... Just mining to use the ores to skillup will probably drive you nuts though...
