I'm a
long-time PC player, and I was planning to get the PC version of the expansion and hadn't really considered the
360 version...
But, I recently found out that my fiance will be recieving an XBox360 from his Parents
(that I'll have access to).
I'm just wondering if there's anyone else in a similar situation trying to
decide between these two options. I'm wondering what you're planning to do and why!
A little more
information is that my PC is pretty out of date and has some trouble with Playonline/FFXI crashing, especially in
Dynamis and when there is a large graphical load such as certain cutscenes. I also have the game installed on my
fiance's computer (which can run maxed out graphic options with no problems), so I can use that when I need to,
but I don't like monopolizing his computer all the time. I'm planning to purchase a new computer myself as soon
as Windows Vista comes out, but that's gonna be like 6 months from now and I'm certainly not gonna wait that
long to purchase the expansion.
In general I prefer the idea of gaming on a PC because it leaves the TV
open for others (esp my fiance) to use it for movies, etc.
Looking online it seems the price of the XBox
version of FFXI will be about twice that of the PC version of the expansion alone.
So, any comments or
opinions would be appreciated!

XBox360 or PC expansion?

The xbox
version is not twice of the PC version of the expansion. It costs 50 dollars only.
Now lets see. You dont want
to hog the television set, yet you dont want to hog his computer either and you dont want to wait for 6 months to
get to play the expansion. Your best bet is to just use the television unless you want to experience crashes doing
besiege or anything else. :X

The 360 is
a nice alternative for PC gamers that don't have an up to date machine. All depends on what your set up is I
suppose.

Well...The
underhanded thing to do is to get the 360 version and use it's key to expand your content ID. After you do that
you find someone(a friend...whoever) that has the PC CDs and install it on your computer.
Theoretically
because you have the CD keys from the 360 version it shouldn't affect the friend you borrowed the PC version
from. Ofcourse...This might work and it might not.

Once
you're registered for an area, like ToA, you should be able to access it from any system that has the game
installed on it. As far as the Xbox is concerned, I hope your fiancee is getting the deluxe model with the hard
drive or you won't be playing FFXI on it. :sly

If you
are able to replace your PC, you may as well do it now. Waiting on the next big thing for a PC upgrade will leave
you waiting forever. Vista has already been pushed back until 1st quarter 2007, so it's not just 6 months you'd
be waiting. There are machines coming out very soon that will be Vista certified or something, but it's not like
it'll require anything special.
IMO, this game takes up enough time that you don't want to dominate a
room with it, which is what the XBox version would likely do for you.

Thanks
for the input.
Yep, the XBox he gets is gonna be a version with a Hard Drive...
I think I'll just
get the PC version though. I'd rather hide myself away from the world when I play than to take up the whole
living room even if the XBox version would be pretty cool to have...
