Hi -
I'm a law student writing a legal study involving MMORPGs and have a question-- I've looked everywhere, so
thanks to anyone who knows:
In FFXI (and other MMORPGs), do users from different countries (Japan, US, etc)
interact in the same world? Basically, can you form parties and chat with users from other countries?

Yeah,
there is multi-cultural interaction... though most JP think themselves better than everyone else. But that goes
with every nationality I guess.

That is
correct. People from all over the world interact with each other inside FFXI.

Same here. The only reason why I get invites from them is because I'm a mage.
Only once or twice have I gotten invites from a JP when there were other JPs of the same class lfg. I'm sure that
if there were a JP version of any class I'm seeking also LFG, then I would not have gotten the invite....
edit: No, this is not always the same. Infact, this is the first MMO*RPG* that I played which was
multicultural outside of private servers and iRO (international Ragnarok Online). Every other game I've played,
WoW, L2, etc., was restricted to certain regions.

In Final
Fantasy XI there is no difference with the server and which culture you have. In World of Warcraft they split the
servers into EU/NA, Korea and JP

I highly doubt they would
invite you or any other NA after they would invite a JP because they would think a JP would do better at a job.
It is almost always because of communication. Whenever I am looking for members, I also base who I invite by what
languages they can speak (basically...if they can speak English or not), so it can be easier for everyone.

Yeah, I guess. I'm still mentally where/when "JP ONLY" was running
rampant. >_>;;;

I
love how ignorant people are. I think someone just said this, but JP like to party with people they can speak
with. Not all JP, but a lot of them. It's the same with NA. On JP messageboards, JP complain about NA exactly the
same way 'we' complain about them. The only difference is that we brought RMT into their game.

Yes, In
FFXI we do party and play in the same world as the JP/EU(Me being NA
).
As far as I know most other MMO's
don't do this. So we are special :boing

No... Several Korean MMORPG have different
worlds for different set of languages... Such as Asian Servers and English servers... Some es. Maple Story,
Priston Tale, Thang... and Others...
Some older games like Ultima Online, since the server software is free
nowdays, have thousands of different servers each with their languages... I know several Italian Ultima Online
servers...
On other note, FFXI doesn't have a server per language.. but I know some communities are bigger
depending of each world, Fairy = Italian, Fenrir = French, ecc..
(This have nothing to do with the
discution, but I personally enjoy an XP party more with japanese people)

Yup
it's fun with JP. instead of bitching about getting a spell cast they just say the spell name with auto
translator and that's it.
