Figured I'd show my TP set on WHM:

That being said, yes, that's a Gullintani, and yes I'm actively working on the last stage of club (M. silvers ftl). Yes, that set's for a non/NIN subjob, ie: /WAR for fun or something. When /NIN I currently offhand Prudence Rod and use Virtue Stone instead of Tiphia Sting for faster TP. If I feel like doing more damage per hit overall I'll offhand a Brass Jadagna. Kinda a shame how my Morgenstern is useless at this point (I'd rather use a perdu wand due to the sheer lower delay and attack/acc boosts), I really enjoyed using it.

WS set is similar to the post above, but I don't own any gorgets, rajas ring, the mantle, or suppa. I'm mage only, and I've had no desire for a Rajas at any point in my playtime. I have Abyssal from BLM. Gorgets I haven't been able to get much organs for.

Disclaimer: Yes, I know how to play WHM, most of my gear is very good, and I've never wielded my weapons in any fight or event that matters. Shut up before you even mention something about what a WHM's meant to do.

If you're a "mage only" kind of person, what possessed you to want to make Mjollnir? I know Gjallarhorn is a fast ticket to BRD-4-life, but that would make sense for someone who seems minimally interested in melee. Anyhow, it's just idle curiosity, not judging.

What I meant by "mage only" is that I only have mage jobs leveled, and I've never persued leveling a melee job past 37 (highest being my 37NIN which I retired at that point). Not saying it won't ever happen, but as it is it takes me a while to level a job to 75 (BRD took me a good six months; got 75 in Feb '08, and that's a job people can get to 75 faster than any other job). If I did level melee jobs it'd probably be WAR or THF, maybe even both. Moreso into the idea of THF, as I've grown to like daggers and would persue a Mandau for it in the long run.

I have fun meleeing stuff at times, it's something different and gives a change of pace, no doubt (especially in Campaign since meleeing helps get EXP, screw healing only, mix of both = win). Kinda like how I mess with some mobs on my Bard with Mordant Rime. Either way, my relic's taken a good 2+ years to get to this point, way before I even thought of leveling Bard (What got me to level BRD was getting a Bard's Roundlet when my BRD was level 10... and at that point, I had stage 3 club). Like I mentioned in the BRD forums, the reason I'm not going after a Gjallarhorn is precisely that: BRD-4-life. I'm not that crazy about the job and I'm playing the game to have fun too, not to be a ballad slave when I could have chances at playing WHM or BLM as well. I hate the thought of leveling something to 75 and never being able to use it at end-game events. I do realize and know that it's the most efficient relic out of my jobs, though.

Just to chime in on this topic as a 67WHM:

I static with a RDM and have been doing so for the past 20 levels. And we both melee.

Yes, you read that correctly.

As a WHM, I take care of main heal duties, he takes care of refresh and we both split up haste duties. We've been doing it like this for the past 20 levels.
Every once in a while, we'll have someone make a snide remark at the start, but once the PT gets rolling, it's always these people that say things like,
"I didn't expect things to go so well. That's pretty crazy." or "Did you guys just Skill chain together?! Damn, that's cool!" I constantly get on the RDM's ass to upgrade their gear and farm for more gil if they want to make it in this melee business. Nothing crazy, but he has SH, Woodsman's, Specs and swaps belts depending on what he needs. I have a lot of hand down stuff from MNK (well, just the PCC, Diabolos Earring and woodsman's rings) and just recently got a Tabin Jupon and feet+1 since I cant use my Noble's yet. Like I said, nothing crazy like Toreador's Ring or Sniper's +1. We both eat either Marinara Pizza or cheap sushi if we fight birds and we have a lame tank or DDs.

One particular time in LS chat, I asked if any DD wanted to join for a Colibri camp synced to 65 and a DRG agrees to go. The PT setup was:

PLD/DNC (they were thrilled to come /DNC), BLU/NIN, THF/NIN, DRG/WAR, RDM/BLM and me as WHM/SMN (I just recently leveled up SCH and think it would have been alot better!)

At first, the DRG was very much against the idea of both the RDM and WHM meleeing and us having no BRD for songs, but still went along with it saying, "meh, I just need some quick XP anyway."

The THF would pull a bird to camp and the PLD and I would alternate Flashes to minimize damage. Hate was hardly ever an issue since the THF would promptly Trick Attack onto the PLD(unless the RDM wanted to do a 300% TP Spirits Within, that darn show off! lol ) All in all, it was a very fun experience since the DDs didn't have to hold back; the PLD got to try out their fun subjob saying, "Honto ni {Thank you.}" (since they didnt speak much english) and the RDM and I keeping our weapons capped. There was never a sense of someone going to die and no downtime whatsoever.

After about 2 hours, we disband since the RDM and I have work and/or school the next day. As I was saying my goodbyes in LS chat, the DRG sent me a /tell saying, "I'm really impressed by that PT you put together. Did you know we were making a little over 10k xp an hour?" To which I replied,

"No kidding? I was having too much fun to notice. See ya ^^" and logged off.

Capped off Club skill. Not that I take my melee very seriously, but Hexa Strike is fun.

Did 300k xp today and was /NIN the entire time. Highest chain we reached was 300 before we had to go back to town and spend merits cuz we were capped on xp. Meleed the entire time, never rested, and no one died. Mystic Boon = hax. Most people I had to haste was 4, fewest was 2.

Just got Royale Redingote. As I'm WHM only and hard core about the usefulness of melee for a lot of situations I went with Accy+10 Att+10 ftw! Best WS body possible right meow <3<3<3 Edit: Also omgwtf @ Auspice... amazing addition. Cura needs to be tweaked though.




Edit: Update. Just went WHM/WAR to Bahamut V2. Hexas were for 800+ but I forgot to use Berserk ><;;;;;

Just tried WHM/NIN in Salvage SSR and was pretty sexy. 1st run I offhanded Perdu Wand. Second run I had Kraken Club off-hand. With Auspice up I was even able to melee gears without any substantial TP feeding. Second run I was also the only healer with no RDM and with Mystic Boon it was very easy to maintain 50%+ mp while hasting everyone, keeping auspice up, popping esuna, and tossing cures and curagas. Cura I still find to be mostly meh but in some cases it wasn't too bad.

About a year after I got Gullintani:
It's finished.

Won't go into too much detail other than that atm, but I'll describe what else I've done for my WHM when I melee for fun.

I finished ACP and got the Royal Redingote with Attack+10 and Accuracy+10 augments.

As my LJ link will show I also have blessed trousers +1 (capping my gear haste).

The only things I'd want to do for this now is:
- Get a perdu wand (>.> low Imperial Standing)
- Get a Kraken Club from the BCNM. I'd just as soon buy alex for my next long-term goal on whm, yagrush, instead of buying a KC.

Wish list: Blessed +1 hands and legs. Sniper +1. Lots of different clubs I still want to play around with. Oh, spellcast swaps in Aristocrat's when MP drops below 200 MP.
