happy.gif Good work, sir!

You didn't mention PLD JSE as an armor choice in the 70s, can you look into it? Not enough PLD consider it as an option. (I love my King set though :3)

He didn't mention it because it's a poor option. The HQ is a pretty good set, but damn near impossible to get your hands on, and the NQ is worthless for anything short of HNM tanking, even then I wouldn't wear it. Buy the boots and put them in your /heal macro with your Dark Staff. Other than that, if you can afford the HQ, awesome, there are some great pieces. Don't wear the NQ, MP > HP in exp parties, MP = enmity, survival, and faster chains.

This is a great guide Ferien.^^ I just saw it tonight for the first time, been working a lot so I haven't been posting as much on PLD forums. Also seemed to be a lull of interesting posts or posts of legitimate requests for advice, so I stopped checking as regularly lol. An LSmate & friend has taken up PLD recently, and been questioning me quite a bit. I'm more than happpy to answer all his questions; but typing out answers to some of them is a pain when FFXI cuts you off after mid-length sentence. Reading through this tonight most of the info I gave him is here, it seems we have very similar views on our job. Wish I'd know it was here, would've saved me a lot of typing.

dunno if this will help much but from my experiences wearing Jelly Ring in exp against the new mobs, I've found that the damage reduction is more consitent than in the old zones because of the change-ups of magic to melee mobs in old exp spots.

love the guide Ferien, wish it was around when I hate started Paladin last year biggrin.gif

This guide is really good for the people who just un-locked the job, tells them what they need to know so they don't run out there blind like I did, thank god I had smart friends who showed me the way ohmy.gif. But anyways real nice guide Ferien b(^.^)d

Updated, yay for Rings. Debating going over Swords, but I need to figure out how to take it away from POV and just write an unbiased description of what they're useful for. Ring and Earring uses are much more "generally accepted" than Swords are. That and there's really no question about what sword and when until you get to endgame, and this FAQ is intended to answer questions, not lash out at people who make poor endgame choices.

good faq. I'll add more end game advice from my knowledge of it.

over all i have 4/5 koenig..but only use 2 pieces. body/boots.
generally while tanking stuff like fafnir or aspid~ i suggest if uhave a decent VIT amount, use Dorado
since hate can fly anywhere lol.AF2 glove or homam are extremely sexy here^^
basically my set up (none macroed standard) is like :
head : aegisjalmr(sp)
hands: Valor
body : Koenig
legs : ada/gem
feet : Koenig
rings : herc/BQ
mantle : Gigant
waist : Warwolf belt
earrings : pigeon/hades(most likely)
weapons : alternating.Koenig shield + hrotti or Joyeuse. or Earth staff(still my high preferance)
if pld/nin i use valor boots mainly though for enmity.

also CHR = hate deterioration.i demonstrated this in GuessWho LS.dropped from kite pt and did nothing
for 5 mins.kirin casted quake on me after that w/ no actions to trigger it.so,Chr shows why brds
in long fights gain hate over time. without taking hits to cut hate down CHR pisses the mob off.
and w/ +60 CHR,dragon kller didnt proct more then normal.

meritwise ive done 3parrying 3 sword and 1 shield, but my merits mainly went to my war:(

but in the end gear how u like, i enjoy having 1600+ hp +27-36 enmity and +71-80VIT^^

I'd like to see more about /NIN -.-;

I didn't see Homam either.

This isn't a guide on how to play, it's a place to go for questions. I'm not going to start talking about how to play /NIN, when it really isn't a "Frequently asked question" and I'm not going to talk about Homam when I haven't talked about the other sets of gear PLD can wear. Again:

(Ferien)
This is not meant to be a guide on "How to play Paladin" but more of a collection of info meant to answer the questions we most commonly see on the board.

I really want to know whats so bad about Rly. Kight's belt.

I have a Rly. Knight's belt+1 and I prefer it over War belt +1 because of the obvious upgrades and the DEF.
I still have a WAR belt +1 I just dont know why I should wear it if this belt is better. I can sacrifice +3 VIT I think. AG and MND always help for a PLD too. No to mention the +2 DEX it gives me. I had a Life belt but I hated it because of the 0 DEF it has and the Accuracy +10 didnt do much cause I was still hitting in the single digets or lower.

-.- At your level, you need to worry about two things: Damage reduction and hate control. The best way to reduce damage, at your level, is through VIT. The best way to assist hate control is through Enmity.

Royal Knight's Belt gives you everything except VIT. The only two stats on there that help in any way are AGI and MND. MND does not increase your cures enough to make a difference, and AGI does not increase Shield, Parry, or evasion enough to make up for the loss of VIT from War Belt +1. You do not reach the VIT/Def cap until about level 73, so you're a ways off. 3 VIT will do you very well.

In my opinion, Life Belt gives you much better benefit, because it allows for better hate control. At 52, you just got your AF hands. These give Enmity+2. Enmity activates whenever you get hit, cure, use an ability, or connect with your weapon. It does not activate when you miss. Life Belt significantly helps your accuracy, giving you more connected swings for more enmity activation. Regardless of whether you hit for 0 or 30, you still have that enmity being added to the swing, adding more and more to your hate total. It's not meant to make you a better DD in your parties, but to give you a firmer grasp on hate. The extra hate added from your extra hits, in my opinion, far outweighs the decrease in hate lost from damage you get from Warrior's Belt +1. The paltry increases in cure potency and shield/parry/evasion procs that Ryl Kgt gives you don't come close to either of them.

Oh, and a preemptive "ding" at whoever makes the next post.

Just as a one shot thing, if you could mention something along the lines of "Q: What race is best for PLD? A: There is no best race for PLD." up there, that would be great. The next time someone brings up that stupid question again on the forums, you could just point 'em to the guide.

I second that motion. Except it should say something like, "There is no best race for PLD because although each race has its own unique advantages, through the mixture of gear and skill, there is no clear point of difference between any given race.

And for the Maat part: "if you think you're unlucky because you can't beat him the first few times, feel gracious that he isn't beating you down for 110-120 damage every attack while you hit him for 20-25 damage using attack food, like Azninvazion of Shiva experienced."

>.> wow, that sucks, never heard of him glitching like that. He did, however, use Meikyo Shisui on a NIN friend of mine instead of Mijin Gakure..

I used Life Belt, but always held onto War +1 just in case I ever needed it, but it's really up to you. They're both solid choices.

i like when someone uses cover macro with /t. i reckon this is good idea
this is very easy to notice rather than looking at screen, or read from the battle chat.

one thing you may add in this faq

long time i come on forum, but i see some ranged slot question before

'what better, bibiki seashell or rosenbow(not sure of spelling)'

answer

bibiki seashell have the best vit, so xp pt
rosenbow have some hp boots, so it go to hnm
rosenbow+1(if you put your hand on it) > both

maybe some end game sword sugestion

it my 2 cent, and i'm not a expert in this game

that guide was good, dont notice the hades and buckler earring before >.>

Fully merited and in full (NQ) Shield gear, you can cap at 324. With HQ booties and Kaiser Schaller, you cap at 327.

There is also the Light Buckler (level 40, size 1) which provides a +5 shield skill, and the Master's shield (Level 52, size 2) which gives a +10

so that would bring the caps to 334 and 337, respectively

Except you shouldn't be wearing those shields for anything except skilling up, so you won't have that skill added to your stat.

Is there any way to get the bibiki seashell back after you've committed an act of stupidity in Besiged and chucked it at a Lamia? >.> That pissed me off bad.
