And Wodah, why not alternate? I'd find it much more satisfying, though, to Jump right on someone's face when they think they've gotten away than shoot a little shiny ball of kamehameha at them.

im pretty sure they can proc since every multihit weapon does. also kick attacks can fire on jump.

Just so you know, the -75 Fire resistance doesn't make any difference whatsoever unless you use Barfira ointment (which would actually give you a chance at resisting a BLM's fire spell in the first place). If you're unaware, -resistance only decreases your chance to resist the spell, and any -ga spamming BLM who's worth his salt in Ballista won't get resisted on what is basically an EM 'mob' to him.
What I mean is, let's say Firaga II does 500 damage to a single target when unresisted. Wearing a BQ Ring won't make that damage go any higher, but it'll decrease whatever chance you had (very little, more than likely) of resisting the spell down to half damage, quarter damage, 1/10th damage, etc.
Also, the majority of BLMs prefer Thunder spells (their most damaging) or Earth spells (because they'll have Terra's Staff equipped) in Ballista matches. It's very rare to see a Fire spell being cast, in my experience.

i really only play monk in uncaps, as my nin is 40 and i'm a taru.... (nin/blm powns hardcore.) 50 caps, sam usually takes the cake, as well as 60.
my experience in uncaps has lent me the following knowledge....
bouncer, me and you have fought many a good batles, however i disagree with your choice of body armor for your main setup. personally i don't think that melee cyclas packs enough punch, and is really only usefull for the hp. even as a taru, i love my shura togi. (i don't have osode yet, /cry.) monk should really be using osode. the 52 defense is HUGE, not to mention the other stat bonuses you get from it. if your like me and are minus the osode, then use SH. the evasion boost is a help, as well as the HP and acc. the defense on it isn't that bad either.
someone also mentioned ratsume pants, which are a very good alternate to af2. if you don't have af2, i'd use ratsume because of the defense, and the ice spikes proc is hilariously annoying to everyone else. paralyze pops off a lot on that ice spikes proc, which gives a lot of jobs fits.
melee gaiters are really the only feet to use imo. they are just too good to pass up. not being able to gear swap really hurts your ability to change this out in cases that the counterstance wouldn't be that good. if you don't have them, use dune boots, if not those, then once again ratsume looks like a good choice because of evasion and defense, as well as minor offensive capability.
as for the subjob choice, /sam is too good to pass up. i always use it. nothing like meditating to 120 tp and one shotting the nearest blm.
a lot of people here seem to be underestimating the effect a good amount of defense can do for you. the people who get protect 3 and 4 are often times the ones who come out on top in big battles. on a smaller scale, the same could be said for who has the supieor defensive set. every bit helps.
another thing that wasn't mentioned is the use of opo-opo necklace. if you are going into a mage heavy fight, opo-opo necklace really fucks up mages, because they can't sleep you without giving you TP, which puts them in jepordy if you get free.

Nice lil thread here, I knew most of the gear choices Mnks use as our server has quite a few of them who play regularly. I myself having been a 24 mnk about 3-4 weeks ago and now at 72 i'm really excited for some uncap games once I ding 75.
I pretty much leveled MNK solely for ballista and put quite a rush into leveling it up. There is alot of choice out there in terms of gear,however, one thing you could add in the rings would be Bloodbead ring. Can't argue with those stats even though BQ has more hp, might be a nice combo of both if you're looking for boosts in HP moreso than your rajas or w/e.
Also one thing to add would be (may sound silly) but Suzaku's Sune-ate is probably one of the highest DEF youll find in MNK Ballista gears. I dont remember exactly the DEF bcos they are always in my mog locker but i think its like 29??I could be wrong but regardless, it still has way more DEF than things like wulong shoes.

The +15 mind might be nice for giving you a better chance for resists, and chi-blasts if you sit around boosting like I do. I'd still use Herald or Melee gaiters over it, but I suppose it may have its uses.

Nice guide. Just has a few misstypes here and there, but practically just needs a little bit of polishing. Maybe a few more bolding in titles and such.

aw man, i really wish there was inter-server ballsita. that would be hilariously fun. they definately need to think about implementing that.
melee gaiters are probably the sole best thing to use. decent defense, and guard skill (nice.) HP and you still get the added counterstance. good stuff imo. counterstance really messes up nin's and war's.

I had a lot of success in 50 & 60 Caps /THF. It's very...mobile and allows you to score quite easily.
