Although you're not really "camping" them, there's a LOT of competition between endgame guilds on who gets the claim.
Also, there are rare spawns, in the world and in dungeons (The naga that drops the Tidal Charm comes to mind) that are highly camped.

Don't forget that:

-It's a R/EX drop.
-The mob is a level 60 NM Malboro(lol GG).
-The drop rate isn't even a single digit. It's a fraction of a single didit. It's more like zero. .002% chance it'll drop.

That's just a few of the ways SE makes NM camping an adventure.

So yeah, have you guys gotten any gear progression in FFXI yet, or is Osode/Haub/SH/Shura still the best body piece for most of the melee jobs in the game?

I mean, with our latest expansion, not only are we getting two new races, but we're also getting a new profession, a redone PvP reward system, flying mounts, 10 more levels, all in addition to new areas and content.

But I mean obviously SE works just as hard as the people at Blizzard, amirite?

Or if SE fixed some of the broken jobs in the game (ZHOMG! a pally, drg, pup and smn in a party with no bard or RDM and doing a chain 10??? WTF????)

or *gasp* open PvP with a PvP reward system ( I swear to god I"d quit my job, dump my girlfriend, say goodbye to family and friends and social life, and by a lifetime supply of cheetoes to sit down, become fat and play FFXI 24/7 if SE did that)

Rose Garden? It wasn't that bad, actually NM's were a large reason I stayed for so long. I'd have to say some of the most accomplishing feelings I ever had were getting Ochiudo's kote, Peacock Charm (Non Ra/Ex bish) and I was also the first one on my entire server ( I believe first on any server actually ) to claim Rose Garden. I got the ring 4 claims later and put it in storage. I never leveled a mage job past 20.

I succesfully did that looooong ass quest for the Mermaid Ring for my NIN when it was level 40. Turns out Enmity+2 on a ring is less useful then +5 Accuracy once you drop the elemental wheel, so the 20 hours (over a 7 day week) only lasted for like 10-15 levels. Hmm, I main tanked Ose in my exp PT at like level 62 with my NIN. That was a LOT of fun (no drop). I succesfully tanked Narasimha at level 61 (It hit like a freaking train. 300+ damage a hit if shadows went down).

Yeah, I would say most of my time in that game was based around tanking, soloing and camping the NM's and I always had fun doing it.
