Since all the other miing spots were overly crowded I decided to go to the grotto cause I heard you can get gold and colored rocks. I went there with mining gear and 21 pick axes.
I must say that that was some of the worst mining ever. I can see why no one mines there. My pick axe broke about 80% of the time and i ended up with 3copper 8tin 5zinc 5iron and 1 silver. I was extremely dissapointed. Has anyone had positive experiences at the grotto?
Also, is it true that you ca mine in Korroloka Tunnel?

Ifrit's cauldron? I've heard the mining was good. I've also heard the place is a death trap.

adaman ore... ~ 120k each, but, most everything there aggroes and they are all still rating ITs to my level 52 ninja ; ;
So until I can mine in cauldron, im sticking with gusgen, and zeruhn if gusgen is crowded

Ifrits cauldron is the best place you can mine. Why? Because it's freaking dangerous! Also Gusgen is very good as well. You can get colored stones, and gold and some other nice ores. The easiest place to mine however and still have the possibility of making a nice profit is Palborough mines. Why? It's the only "low level" mine that has platinum. You can also get mithril which isnt really the most profitable but hey it's not real dangerous, and you have a better chance of getting mithril or platinum than there than you do at getting a darksteel in zerhun. Good luck!

Yughott is treating me ok.. last night i had 27 pickaxes and left 2 or 3 hours later with 25 iron, 2 stones, 1 gold and 1 darksteel (threw away silver and zinc).
I also got a stack of silver beastcoins, some lizard gear and a flame boomerang (chest) from fighting orcs everytime steal was charged up.
It's not making me a millionaire but it's not horrible either.. but far better than palborough zehrun and gusgen in my experience (i still get aggro in lowe gusgen so i don't mine there tho)
i'd probably make about the same amount per day by importing scrolls from selbina to jeuno tho.. i guess ifrit's is what it's all about when it comes to mining

i have talked to 70ish NA players and ifirt caldron will still agro to them. It's high risk mining make sure you have sneak/inv, silence oil and prism powder.

Grotto and Palburough are about the same in terms of safe levels to mine at. Only difference is that the Grotto has Gold Ore and Darksteel Ore to offer while Palburough's main cash maker is Platinum ORe (with mythril quite a while behind).

Not to mention that the grotto has many more mining spots ^^

Went to the grotto last night, spent about 1-2 hours mining and marking the spots on the map. I netted about 10k, got a darksteel ore on my first swing ever! Don't know why everyone bashes the grotto, there was maybe 1-3 other miners there, and everyone kept to themselves. The Orcs there rarely aggro my lvl 25 character. Then again, don't mine there, keep the place relatively unknown

I like mining in the grotto, although i do agree, there are times that it really sucks. But i have been pretty lucky and have gotten quite a bit of gold ore (although im not happy about gold ore selling for 7.5k on Midgard). Also, if your a blacksmith of lvl 17+, you can take lots of picks and fire crystals and make iron ignots, which sell for 31k per stack on midgard.
As far as being lvl 25, dont go all the way in because there are mobs that aggro to anything under lvl 33. Plus there are a lot more mine spots than you have marked, because i filled up my markers and found more.

the grotto isn't too bad, but it does have its' days where it is just absolutely horrible. i've found that gusgen mines is far more consistant on how much loot you're going to come out with. i have yet to mine ifrits cauldron, i've been told by a lv66+ thf that has mined there a few times that its' scary as hell, its hard to use magic to keep yourself from getting aggro (lots of IT bombs running around) and you end up burning a lot of money using sneak/invisi potions just to move around. the prospect of finding adaman ore is quite appealing though^^
p.s. lets boycotte gold sales on midgard until its back at its normal 10k+ sale price!!!

Skeematic,
I usually stay away from the orc fighters/sarjeants/cursemakers. They con decent to even I believe, and I can usually take them out if there is only one on me. Problem is, I get a dogpile of them on my and I have to leave the area for a bit, but this SELDOM happens. I have only mined a few times in ghelsba, but usually there are higher lvl ppl there trying to farm keys, or killing all the orcs so the Ashmaker Gotblut spawns, which is good for me.
Also, I looked last night before I logged, there are 53 gold ores for sale at the Sandy AH. 53!!!!! Another player was saying that gold has dropped dramatically due to NA miners. I really hate the Midgard economy, Gold ore is 8.5 to 9k, and 2 weeks ago, darksteel was down to 4.8k, Im glad it has gone back up to 6.5k though.
EDIT: I also can't wait to raise my smithing level so I can make Iron ingots. They sell much better than the ores do, but I usually bazaar everything I have in Jeuno overnight during the JPN hours, they buy everything

Did anyone read about the Playonline update that made Pickaxes break more consistently when mining at the same spot? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT ABOUT??? Finding mining spots takes enough time as it is, why would you make the dam things break more often in one spot? I can get maybe 2-3 swings on average on a mining spot, are they trying to say that is too much?

They're trying to say that you should be sharing the mining point. If you don't mind breaking a few axes, go ahead and swing away. But I think SE wants you to share the mining points instead.

You mean not to camp a certain spot? If that is the case, then I have nothing to worry about, because I run all over the place. Almost no competition
But when mining points only last roughly 2-4 swings, people tend to share less often. This seems to be only a Gusgen problem, or other mine problem, because I have yet to encounter it in the grotto. I will be mining for a few weeks to come, I need some serious cash, and having some in advance is never a bad thing. Plus, I think it is fun (gasp), I like to solo sometimes and not have to worry about dying, or getting XP, or stuff like that. I just sit back, relax and mine away.

Yea. That's what I like about crafting. I don't have to worry about gaining exp or dying or anything like that. Sometimes it's annoying when people overprice some stuff (sigh...I remember the good ol days. Sheepskin sold for only 100 gil on the AH *cries*) and force me to go hunting instead. Then again, it's their loss on not making gil faster by jacking up the price. Maybe we should start setting a standard pricing for certain things (like Gold Ores and Gold Ingots). If someone doesn't put it at the standard price, a bunch of people will annoy them to the point of insanity (on their part of course) till they either listen or blacklist all of us. After that, we can try the boycotting thing ^^

Another misconception is that high level crafting = high levels of income. I am not sure where people got the idea that crafting is supposed to be a source of revenue, but from what I have seen, profit is a by-product.
While the higher you get in a skill, the more stuff you can make that is valuable, keep in mind that the materials also get more valuable, and harder to obtain. I realized this when I was reading a thread on end game JSE, the poster said he needed the body piece, but it required behemoth leather x3, which go for almost 1 million a piece on his server. While you can sell that newly made piece of equipment for some serious change, you are gonna be out 3 million gil while doing so. And just imagine if you failed the synthesis and lost a piece of behemoth leather (throws a tantrum and flies to japan to blow up the servers, lol)

Actually it's not a misconception. At higher levels, you DO have a higher level of incomes. How you ask? Easy...by making lower level things and making a HQ version of them to sell off. This might not seem like much, but when the +1 version of an item can raise a stat, it's value boosts 10 fold. Meaning an item that's worth 1k can have it's HQ version be worth 10k. And the higher your skill level, the better % you have of making a HQ item. Therefore, you now have a higher level of income.
