I picked up a bit here and there from some other thread, but some of this is news to me.
1. Since when did the Jelly Ring become a "don't use this" kind of ring for tanking?
2. Since when did Koenig become a collosal waste of time?
And while I'm at it, does anyone have any suggestions for armor after AF? I love the stuff and all, but aside from a Haub and those ToAU legs, I've got nothing to use for xp and merit parties.
Woah, what? Jelly Ring and Koenig a waste?

1- since every hnm is pretty heavy on magic
2- since you get 2xx dmg / hit against hard stuff so it's just better to use enmity stuff and /nin or whatever.
it's not useless for everything, it's just not as useful as most people think against hard stuff
armor for xp?
if you exp as /nin I'd say full homam (but body maybe <_<) for tp and heca for ws, but if you can't get homam you can use:
head: ohat - walahra
body: haub
hands: dusk/tarasque/alkyoneus
legs: valor/galliard/dusk
feet: dusk/marine m

Ah, so the Jelly Ring is still good for xp, then. Cool.
-
Still looking at a post on the Darksteel +1 harness set (the one with -% physical damage taken) but if I recall correctly, -% physical damage isn't additive, but multiplicative. That means if a pld is wearing a five-piece set of armor with -2% physical damage taken apiece (for the sake of simplicity, let's just say it's -2% apiece), he's not taking -10% physical damage. The total damage is reduced by -2%, then that total is reduced by -2%, then that reduced total is reduced by another -2%, then reduced again by -2% until it gets to that last piece, which is when the total damage is calculated.
Maybe the results are the same. I was never very good at math.
-
The list of xp equipment looks good except I'd never take off my Gallant Leggings - ever. Any suggestions on xp/merit swords that aren't Joyeuse? I use a Company Sword at the moment to replace my old Macuahuitl +1, but Bayard's Sword is looking really good right now.

jelly ring is still good for xp yea, but thats in the 60s
it is additive
kada was giving you a /nin setup, so yea, gallant boots wont really be helpful there
if i was war dding i'd stick to joy, and if i was pld/nin i'd main company and offhand joy/justice

Koenig gear has been more or less e-peen status for quite a while now. I still want body though because I do need me the e-peen.

-.-KI ate my long post, so here it is in short:
DAMAGE REDUCTION GEAR IS ADDITIVE
As floored percentages of 256 (Jelly + E.Staff = (floor( 256*.05 ) + floor( 256*.20 )) / 256 = ~24.609%)

Jelly ring is useful for Dynamis if you are voking mobs and sitting there and letting it beat on you till someone sleeps it. I wouldn't toss it out just yet.

I personally have never had a Jelly Ring, so I can't speak from experiance about it's uses, but I have always gotten along just fine without it.
Also, for classic sword and shield tanking there is nothing wrong with picking up a good old koenig schaller.
I personally don't intend to get full koenig, apart from the bragging rights I don't see much use for it beyond the head and maybe the hands, just because there isn't much that's better.

enmity+7 > whatevershieldskill imho <.<
I know, I know, I'm an enmity whore.. but it's plenty of shield skill on other slots, and I like enmity+7 on just that slot

1. My jelly ring is rotting in my mog house.
2. I have 0 Koenig and not planing to get any. Maybe get the head piece and thats it.
Valor is probably the best all arround armor you can get. If you can get Homam set, more power to you. I'm also working on the Amir set for magic users.
To DD as /war I use: Bayard's sword, Sentinel shield, Walahra turban, Amir body (TP), Hauby (WS), Dusk gloves (TP), Tarasque mitts (WS), Valor breeches, Gallant leggins +1 (TP), Amir boots (WS), Settler's cape (TP), Amemet mantle +1 (WS), Life belt (TP), Warwolf belt (WS), Chivalrous Chain.

Koenig was nice when it was released because melees and mages were not pushing out the damage numbers that they are today. It was much easier to keep hate.

Homam Manopolas are much better than Koenig Handschuhs, and Valor Gauntlets are marginally better as well.
Koenig Schaller is situationally useful, though Valor Coronet and Aegishjalmr kick its ass in other respects.
Koenig Cuirass is solid, situationally replaced by Valor or Gallant Surcoat.
Gallant Leggings blow away Koenig Schuhs, and Valor Leggings are on par or better for any non Shield-tank situation. Homam owns them for /NIN
Koenig Diechlings are solid as well, situationally replaced by Valor Breeches and Homam Cosciales.

As floored percentages of 256 (Jelly + E.Staff = (floor( 256*.05 ) + floor( 256*.20 )) / 256 = ~24.609%)

wait
5 + 20 = 25%
25-24.6 = .4
we dont use jelly because of .4% difference?

No. We don't use Jelly because taking 4.6% off of 100-150 damage hits isn't worth adding 4.6% to 8-1200 damage hits.
ninja edit: There's also the issue that melee damage typically isn't what causes problems in a fight. Reducing the damage you take from hits that are easily and efficiently dealt with isn't worth adding damage to the hits that cause major problems during a fight. Take Fafnir for example. Wearing Jelly Ring would reduce her normal hits from like...100~150 to...95~142, and even less when you block with your shield (which happens very often). However, you're also changing the damage you take from Hurricane Wing from 300~350 to 315~375. Yes, you are reducing more average damage, due to the frequency of melee hits as opposed to wings/magic attacks, but you are also adding damage to the reason new shells wipe to Fafnir. If she starts pumping out Wings below 20%, you're going to quickly find yourself in much more trouble than you needed to be in. An even easier example to see is Suzaku. If your stunners miss a half-second of Chainspell, you just changed an 800 damage Firaga and a 900 damage Flare into 840 and 945. That's almost an extra 100 damage you could have easily avoided by not wearing the Jelly Ring.
That being said, there's absolutely no reason to not wear a Jelly Ring in XP. It's only agains HNM that you'll have a problem.

+7 Enmity is for wusses.
My Aegisjhalmr sits in storage now. While the +hp on it is arguably quite nice, I'm a bit vain & would rather lose those HP and one of the ugliest items in the game in order to gain +1 enmity & +100 bling.
