There's a few factors you're forgetting.

1) Fafnir spawns at different lv ranges. Some Fafnirs he'll hit hella weak, others he'll hit much harder. I gaurantee if you got hit with the same critical you wouldn't take much less than he did.
2) Food/Protect are huge; I bet that PLD didn't have Protect or food. Tac Tacos add a lot believe it or not.
3) It doesn't change the fact that Shield skill is the best way to reduce damage. Even if adding +50 VIT shaves off 15 dmg no critical hits, it won't change the fact that adding shield skill is the best way to reduce dmg.

The shield skill argument comes in here; even if VIT helps a little dmg wise, it will kill you hate wise. A enmity whoring PLD will always keep a shitload more hate than a Koenig PLD. What's the point in adding all that VIT when it doesn't change a whole lot dmg wise, but it does show a huge impact on how well you keep hate? Also, myself and a fellow 5/5 Koenig PLD have tested VIT on some Fafnirs. When he wore full Koenig, and I wore full enmity we didn't notice a big damage difference. If you have max shield skill, you wont take much dmg. I've never noticed a difference when i throw on my 4/5 pieces.

It doesn't change the fact that Defender/Tacos/Protect is all the real DEF you need. Stacking enmity is still more efficient than stacking mass VIT. All the dmg reduction you need outside of Tacos/Protect/Defender comes from Shield Blocks.

Anyone can go ahead and throw on full VIT and forget about enmity, but your mages will be mighty pissed when they pull hate after two nukes.

I know fafnir spawns at different level ranges, but this happens every time, so either everytime a PLD with hardly any vit tanks, they only get the high level range faf or vit matters. I have never seen a PLD who wore as little VIT/Koenig as these two PLD's have done not get critted for over 400.

I agree Shield Skill is the best way to reduce DMG, I'm not arguing that.

I also agree wearing full koenig isn't smart because your mages would get owned, not arguing that, I just claim koenig reduces DMG more than what poeple give it credit for.

Here's the thing that's been drilled into my head very early in this thread: it doesn't matter how much koenig can reduce damage, if you've lost hate, then the gear isn't helping you do your job, and if there's a piece of gear that does do the job better, then you use it. To keep on arguing that Koenig can reduce damage better than say, AF, is simply academic if everyone has already agreed that wearing full Koenig is unreasonable because it lacks enmity. Think of it like attempting to guess the bra size of a nun: yes, you can keep on doing it, but why?

Most of the time I'll get lucky and launch a football (pinecone bomb) from like 50 feet to sleep some homos who decide to run away. Also having over 980 def when you pop a taco, P5 & cocoon. XD

my whm commented to me last night after watching me tank faust. we had gotten faust twice last night, i hadnt arivved in time to tank the first one, so our galka pld took over. i'm an elf, so in reality, the galka should have pwned me good. last time i had the opputunity to tank faust i was using ES and jelly getting hit for ~200 normal hits and 300+ typhoons. last night i tossed on my enmity sword which i will not try and spell and my koenig shield. faust was pushing out ~130 on normal hits and ~200 on normal typhoons, the funny part, he never really got many of those off, most went through my shield first. its nice seeing faust hit you for 30-40 a hit, even typhoons. my whm had mad he comment to me, he ran through his mp 5 times on the galka with 285 shield, but on me i dont think he went through it once.

koenig is hot, but enmity and hp and shield+ will always help you win the fight. personally i wear koenig head and crimson legs, otherwise i go with my jse or af. love my shield skill the most, that will reduce a lot of your damage right there. not to sure on how things would look on a tiamat or any other "real" hnm, but for me on gods, shield+ is my best friend. ive shield tanked all the gods except genbu, im looking forward to that very soon though.

lol, awesome. Still though...add Phalanx to that, and you're untouchable...How is Phalanx2 calculated? Have the RDMs figured that out yet?

1 merit is like... -14 dmg. from what i heard, fully merit''d and with a lot of enhacing gear it can go up to -22 with a 3 minute duration. its broken and awesome <3

I am in agreement with the whole Koenig is 2004 thing. I like and use the helm but the rest is meh (chest is nice but I don't do kings so meh). Mind you VIT does help a bit(certainly not enough to justify overloading on koenig), I do notice a difference on darksday with +20vit from S.Mantle.
