All of these are good points, full Koenig is, as I realized at about... level 65, more or less useless. As a tank holding hate should come first, plain and simple. I unfortunatly don't have any of these fancy gears you guys are talking about (B.Mask is so far away I couldn't hit it with an ICBM and my HNMLS doesn't do Fafhogg yet). Currently I shore up +18 (Best I can do, I'm dirt poor, and yes I need to farm more but it's damn boring) on average, and I sub in my AF head for koenig if I need that little boost. I can't wait to get some more AF2, 1/5 right now, though the head, feet, and body I'll likely sub in most of the time.

In the meantime, currently saving up for a hades earring, maybe a harmonia's, and some better rings.

If people can't hold hate in Enmity lessor then 20 GTFO.... ALL i gotta say. It's not HP/ENMITY over everything. It's how you tank. I Tank 90% of the time in 2/5Koening Gallant Boots, Gallant Body, Adamen Pants, Warwolf belt, herculeas' ring, and Koening Shield. THATS my tank set-up for everything. Weapon 90% of the time is company sword or Durandal. People need to find there own ways of tanking and stick to it. I tank better in my 2/5 Koeing then i do with Valor Coronet and Gallant Hands in the places of Koening. Saying HP > VIT just dosent quite cut it in alot of things. (Note: i to gone /NIN cause 1, my NIN's 21 and will forever be 21 and 2 i'll never sub NIN for PLD sub, thats the bandwagon people). I get used alot more then our other tanks and they got Enmity & HP shit far over what im capable of. Shit im lucky if my HP max's over 1500 with food where as our other PLD's max over 1700 and there 2nd string back up tanks. Support > Tanking Skills > Rest. If you got shitty support better tack on that HP+ and Enmity+ cause you'll need it. I hardly ever loose hate unless im dead. /end rant.

Last note.
Koenig armor only goes as far as YOU yourself can take it. You're here to eat damage not let other people go buckwild and you get eaten up. If you really think alot of that HP+ shit where your higher DEF are at then you go right ahead, thats YOUR call. I'll tank my way. As for the Jelly Ring. Use it aslong as shit dosent go buckwild on the Magic. I don't have one yet but 95% of Fairy's higher LS's Recomend you have Jelly Ring befor applying for there Linkshells. Now if that isent a "Must have" item IDK wtf it means. As it stands atm my +4 VIT ring is what i got to play with.

Meh, best at taking hits, I can tank just fine as drk/war against VT-IT mobs as long as I have a brd. I did that this morning in a lv61ish pt on spiders and puks. I had to turn the mob for skillchain and it was pretty easy. Spiders would hit me for ~70-90, puks the same way. Since I used attack foods I could just defender and still not hit for crap dmg since brd songs made such a huge difference (took hate so bad I had to use it a lot and I'd still put up huge numbers while taking pld-ish dmg before the shield change). Pld d/c and pt is like oh shit after thf pulls. Drk af is pretty decent for tanking in lol, absorb-vit, sattva ring on, defender up, piece of cake. Brd rocks like that though.

Taking hits is becoming less important since we don't want to have to spend so much mp on curing but need more for killing the mob faster and for dealing with dmg that doesn't come from melee attacks. If you were around when fafnir fights could take like 3-5 hours then you'd understand completely. No one wants to extend the fight more then it needs to, and spending too much on curing won't allow it to last. You also don't seem to understand that koenig does nothing to lower the dmg from wing attacks, aerial attacks, magic, any non-physical aoe (and every hnm has a few), etc.

I've been thinking of a special theory on the use of berserker's torque. I'm sure you know what it does but there's one interesting thing about this torque: pld can use it. What if you just slept a mob or consistantly have shadows up and take very little dmg... you could use this torque as a means for infinite possible hate generation since the mob is not hurting you yet you will have hp to cure for hate. You wouldn't be able to just keep it on but you could put it on briefly and cure, take it off, wait a while, rinse and repeat.

I just need to get one... seems silly I'm seeing other LSs try to bazaar this for like 5M lol...

No sheet cause Wing Attacks ect ARNT Physical Attacks (unless the wing is slamming into you then it's cause SE is to dumb to fix it >.> -.-; VIT only breaks down Physical attacks... unless your to dumb to notice it... >.>; or don't pay attention to statistical info on VIT. MND+ takes off the damage curve to magic attacks....besides adding to cure potency of course.

Basically it can be summed it this way: for every pld that has tanked for their koenig they will do better without it then with it when controlling hate. A lv90 hnm has so much str and att that even 999+ def and 170+vit do nothing to really curb it. So, what do you do? Gather an hp+ set and an enmity+ set and see how much your ls needs your enmity.

There's really only two pieces of koenig that have superior hp+, the body and pants, the other pieces have better alternatives for hp+ for nearly all races (like w turbin is better then koenig unless you expect shield+5 to save you more then haste and mp, like as a pld/nin).

This is koenig's chief failure, lack of enmity+. Obviously it's going to vary just how much your ls needs from your enmity gathering ability so you need to shift your gear around as you tank to help them nuke more, attack more, and hopefully kill faster. Also have to keep in mind how much enmity your cotanks have on or have available to them so that you aren't stuck tanking more then you need to. For that mixing in koenig can help but I'd rather see myself with 2000+ hp.

Lol, I still don't own a jelly ring. For what it does, or rather takes from my current set of rings, I'd probably never actually use it :/ Would much rather have more hp to deal with magic dmg then from melee dmg since we already practise trying to avoid melee dmg with AA or self blinks or touchdown-sleeping. Sattva/bloodbead/bombqueen/hercules' are the rings I always keep handy. I'll never see a d.ring again so it's not an issue for me.

I carry too much gear... Every HNM is different in some way, I dont believe there is one setup for all. Thats just wrong.
Through knowing your enemy's attacks, how much dmg they do, how big their dmg spikes are and how much hate your DD/Support pulls, you can find the right gear for the job. e.g something hits for huge and DD dont pull as much hate .. you may want to sub out some emnity gear for hp (say warwolf belt for ocean sash or something, swaping 3emnity for 45hp).
HP not only gives your support team time to heal you (not get one-shotted) .. it also reduces your healers from over curing as much. But like i say it all depends on your enemy what you choose IMO.

In the end Tanks job is:
1. To hold hate.
2. To Not get your ass kicked. >.>

Not a waste, all situational. Sometimes not even all shield skill gear is needed if you get off enough blocks to not warrant the need for it, all depends on what level monster you're tanking. If you're tanking with staff I'd vote koenig all the way, except for Aegisjalmr/Bahamut's Mask, maybe helm too if you don't have any problems keeping hate, it's all about communication and execution for whatever mob you're fighting. If you don't always need the enmity then no reason to have it on.
