Speak with Brutus at the Upper Jeuno Chocobo stables. He'll mention a chocobo and you'll get an option letting it either "Run Away" or "Think of Brutus". Let the Chocobo run away, and Brutus will come back out. He informs you the chocobo is probably heading to La Theine. Teleport or Chocobo out.
Once you reach La Theine check the Chocobo Tracks at (E-4)/(E-5) for a cut scene, then head back to Brutus. Brutus will ask you to head to the San d'Oria (Windurst or Bastok) Chocobo stables. In San d'Oria speak with Hantileon. After this cut scene head back to Jeuno and talk to Brutus for another Cut Scene.
Some people have reported Brutus not giving them their Chocobo egg after this, waiting to 0000 and zoning fix this problem.
After you've received the Chocobo Egg head to San d'Oria and speak to Hantileon again and you're home free. Enjoy your Chocobo!

1.A The Chocobo Menu
Inside the Menu there are a few options.
Care for your Chocobo -
Initially only watch is accessable. This shows affection for your chocobo.
Check my Chocobo -
This seems like it's used to check your chocobo's gender (When in egg form) and what condition your chocobo is currently in. Also tells you your chocobos stats attributes, abilities, affliction, personality, and hunger.
Care Schedule -
There are four open slots for plans here, intially only the basic is avaliable. This plan will have your chocobos attributes change very little over time. The peroid refers to 7 RL days per plan.
Different plans effect your chocobo in different ways each plan increases some skills and decreases others.
Note: Not all attribute increases/decreases are 1 for 1. SE has a better chart that explains it alot better than I could.
Basic Care - Increases; Strength, Discernment, Endurance and Receptivity. Decreases; Affection and Energy.
Exercising Alone - Increases; Strength. Decreases; Affection, Energy, Discernment and Receptivity.
Exercising In a Group - Increases; Endurance. Decreases; Affection, Energy, Discernment and Receptivity.
Walking - Increases; Strength and Endurance. Decreases; Affection, Energy, Discernment and Receptivity.
Playing with other Chocobo - Increases; Recepitivity. Decreases; Strength, Endurance, Affection and Energy.
Playing with Children - Increases; Discernment. Decreases; Strength, Endurance, Affection and Energy.
Carrying Packages - Increases; Strength, and Endurance. Decreases; Discernment, Affection, Energy and Recepitivity.
Showing off your Chocobo - Increases; Discernment and Recepitivity. Decreases; Strength, Endurance, Affection and Energy.
Message Boy - Increases; Strength. Decreases: Affection, Energy and Recepitivity.
Treasure Hunting - Increases; Discernment. Decreases; Endurance, Affection and Energy.
Acting - Increases; Recepitivity. Decreases; Strength, Affection and Energy.
So lets say you wanted to have a chocobo that rode very fast, thus increases strength. You might set your plans up as follows.
Exercising Alone, Walking, Basic Care, Message Boy.
This focuses on strength, however a basic care plan can help stop the losses to Energy Discernment and Receptivity.
Remember that energy and affection play an important part in the success of Care Plans and a care plan can never really be the same as you being there. If you're not there enough your chocobo may run away.
Give up Chocobo Raising -
This obviously discards the egg you're currently raising.
1.B Chocobo Breeds!
Destrier - High Quality Colour: Black
These chocobo were breed in San d'Oria, trained to carry great weights on their backs and withstand being used as cavalry, once upon a time all Destrier's were black however the blood lines have been diluted and they're now going out of fashion because of the faster Coursers.
Courser - High Quality Colour: Red
These larger than average chocobo are San d'Orian breed. They have long graceful legs and were originally used for scouting duties. They were also used as every day mounts. Only in very rare occasions are red Coursers born.
Palfrey - High Quality Colour: Blue
These medium sized chocobo are found in Bastok and the Zepwell, they're gentle and great for those newbie chocobo riders.
Jennet - High Quality Colour: Green
These small chocobo were shrunk in size by the Tarutaru. They have short legs however can keep up a very quick pace.
Rounsey - High Quality Colour: None?
The Rounsey are found in Jeuno, they are the product of a long breeding experiment where Brutus breed captive Chocobo with wild ones. These robust mounts have somewhat unpredictible temperments.

1.D Chocobo Personalities
There have been rumors of your chocobos age effective personality, this isn't true.
None
The great chocobo void! This has no known advantages.
Sensitive
Guess: This seems to help your chocobos interactions with people and other chocobo.
Enigmatic
This may have an effect on chocobo racing, i'm unsure though.
Ill-Tempered
"Your chocobo is Ill-tempered, making it ideal for military use" (Thanks to LS member), i'm guessing this makes your chocobo good in either races or 'fights'.
Patient
"It is a very patient chocobo, making it ideal for carrying goods" (Thanks to same LS member who wishes to remain nameless) mabye this yields a higher reward for the carrying goods care package later in chocobo raising.
1.E Hatching and Raising -
It's speculated that each Chocobo takes 1 week RL time to hatch. Remember to check it often. There are four stages including Egg and Adult Chocobo
Egg - Four RL days to Chick.
Chick - Fifthteen RL days to Teenager.
Teenager - Eleven RL days to Adult.
Adult - Can retire, be careful not to drop it's card or you will no longer be able to see it.
1.F Obtaining Eggs -
So far I know of three different ways to obtain Chocobo Eggs.
One three can be brought from the Mithra in Ru'Lude Gardens below the AH. Basically from the AH if you're facing it go left and down the stairs and talk to the Mithra Child.
One can be obtained from Brutus at the completion of the Quest.
Chocobo Eggs can be gained from ISNM.

1.H Important NPCs -

2.A Chocobo food -
Vegetables-Raise affection, and satisfy hunger
Bunches of Gysahl Greens
Bunches of Sharug Greens
Bunches of Azouph Greens
Wildgrasses-Don't taste very good, but cure status abnormalities
A clump of Gausebit Wildgrass - Cures wounds
A clump of Tokopekko Wildgrass - Cures illness

Carrots - High in nutrition and effect strength and discernment
Vomp Carrots - Effect physical attributes
Zegham Carrots - Effect mental attributes

Worms - Multiple effects --- Warning: Worms have side effects
Cupid Worm - Raises affection
Gregarious Worm - restores energy
Parasite Worm - Removes ailments? Injures Chocobo?
Medicine -
Chocolixir - Restores energy to full
Celerity Salad - Cures most status abnormalities, restores some health.
Pastes -
Food ground into paste is for chicks to eat.
2.B Chocobo Attributes -
Strength - Increases running speed. Describes Chocobo leg power. (Physical)
Endurance - Increases duration. Describes chocobo stamina. (Physical)
Discernment - Increases chance of learning abilities. (Mental)
Receptivity - Increases communication. (Mental)
Energy - Increases success of care plans. Describes the amount of power a Chocobo needs to stay active.
Affection - Increases success of care plans. If this is low, you're care plan will fail completely!
Satisifcation - Increases energy recovery. Describes how hungry or full you're chocobo is.
2.C Weather Effects
Each chocobo has it's own weather preference. By default this is sunny skies. However Chocobo can be trained to like different weather types. While your chocobo is still a chick when it goes walking watch the weather carefully and walk it in the weather you want your chocobo to be attunted to.
Plotting your Chocobo's care schedule around these days heightens the chances of success, however this also creates a weak point to watch for.
2.D Care plan table - From GimliNL of Alla
2.E The Egg Files
Day One -
After installing the basic care plan yesterday I checked my Chocobo today (roughly 24 hours later), Upon talking with the NPC I got the message "I have something important to tell you about the status of your egg" With the text "Day one" and "Basic care". The NPC tells me he's taking great care of my egg and he can't wait to see how the chick turns out. This says a few different things, firstly, on the care plan there is a 24 hourly report for your chocobo, secondly, you get daily reports about your chocobo, or thirdly you get reports when your egg reachs a new stage (unlikely).
I checked the egg and the NPC was still unable to tell me it's gender. And upon interaction it still wanted out...we will see...
Day Two -
Having heard reports of peoples chocobo's hatching I was eager to get there and see if mine had. However mine is still nice and snug in it's shell, no change in messages or status, HP bar is still static. However i'm just squeeing over the cute little thing that's going to pop out having seen model viewer pictures.
Day Three
Well, people also said their egg hatched on the third day, so I stroll up to my local Chocobo Stables...and low and behold there has been no change what-so-ever in my egg. Mabye tomorrow...
Day Four
Today it hatched, it was a small boy chocobo and cute +2. Another care option became avaliable to me, "short walk". I took him for a walk and he lost about 15% of his energy however made friends with another Chocobo called "Air". A few more care schedule plans became avaliable. "Rest", "Take a walk in Town" and "Listen to Music" you can see what these raise higher up in this post.
When a chocobo is born it seems to have no preference for weather, save for sunny skies...
My chocobo seems to have high affection as it is "happy to see me" however all other stats are 'poor'.
Day Five
Day five was by far my most varied day as a chocobo raiser yet, my Chicks energy decreased alot and I couldn't find a worm to sait it, so I had to buy a chocolixir. Anyway, he's at full health now and not to soon, I t ook him for a walk and named him Soliel Luna. He didn't meet anymore friends nor did he see Air again, so that's somewhat disappointing. Nothigns really changed, he is a cutie though!
Day Six
Still no real change, I set my plan to rest againbut this time my chocobo fell asleep, he's getting hungry but I can't feed or walk him, how annoying.
Day Seven
Today my chocobo had become restless at night and I was given a White Hankerchief to keep in my Key Items for awhile, so it smelt of me. This will apprantly make him feel better, I change the plan back to basic care so I can have some control over my chocobo and what he does, aside from that not much happened.
Day Eight!
Today my chocobo woak up, I fed him three vegetable pastes raising his affection to "Regards you as a parent" I took him for a walk and got the chocobo story (4th walk ever). It appears the white Hankerchief is linked to the eternal sleepyness of the Chocobo.
Day Nine
More of the same, I fed, walked, and watched my chocobo. No real change.
Day Ten
Today my chcoobo became extra receptive to whatever was going on, meaning when I fed him he gained more of a boost from it, not to mention everything else, this wore off the next day sadly. The mystery of 'perky chocobo illness" perhaps, he was listening to music and none of his attributes have risen yet.
Day Eleven
No change really ; ; I wish something would happen.
Day Twelve
I took my chocobo walking...still no change in basic stats, his energy bar refilled without resting, which was great.
Day Thirteen
my chocobo is perky again and was "Almost completely full" I believe this has a bearing on it and am testing that now, so we'll see what comes to fruitation, still no change in his basic stats, size colour, sex or anything.
Day Fourteen
Took my chocobo walking again o nthe care plan and once physically, another day of walking and I plan to switch him to a mental care plan.
Day 15
Well it's the last day of walking, I watched him for a bit, fed him up to half full and i'm waiting to see if I can again make him 'perky'.
Day 16
Sadly I wasn't able to reproduce the perky chocobo status change, however i'll wait till tomorrow and see if anything drastic changes, took him for a walk, and fed him up to the right level again.
Day 17
My chocobo became illtoday, and was perky, I set my chocobo to rest and fed him Tekkopekko Wildgrass to cure the illness. I watched him and now i'm just waiting.
Day 18
My chocobo's illness healed, and he's awake (no coma patient chocobo for me) and his perkyness wore off, I took him for two walks and encountered the NPC again, he's completely full so I havn't fed him. Tomorrow's the big day!
Day 19
Today my chocobo became a chick, it has yellow feathers and is cute, I took it on a regular walk to La Thiene, met three humes, who challanged me to a race....got home, and challanged them to a race, bet their black tipped chocobo, HAH take that!
Day 20
Today I won another race, and set my care plan to Deliver packages, took him for another walk and told him a story.
Day 21
My chocobo got a bunch of status, well I lie, two, boredom and injury. So I fed him gausebit grass and set his care plan to rest for the next two days. Also fed him the more filling vegetables instead of carrots as his health dropped from completely full to straving over night.
Day22
Today I made him exhibit to the public, Delivering packages got me 200 gil, while the Exhibiting to the public got him 100. I got a new story today "The story of the Happy Chocobo" from beating the three humes three times in a race.
Day 23
Today my chocobo fell asleep, it is starving however has full energy...and it just won't wake up, i'm playing with the care plans and hoping.
Day 24
Chocobo is still asleep, still starving, full energy and claims to be healing to releave it's fatige, I set it to an exercise plan hoping to wake it up
Day 25
Chocobo is still asleep, exercise plan failed, I set it to take a walk for one day, then following basic care, and left it alone for two days.
Day 26
Chocobo awoke but was sick, didn't do anything as I didn't check it this day.
Day 27
Chocobo was fed Tekkopekko grass in order to heal sickness, set to exercise alone, and fed greens to enhance affection and statisfy it's hunger.
Day 28
Nothing really adventful happened today, sickness healed, and it got perky.
Day 29
The chocobo grew up, I got access to a bunch of new active care plans (Long walk, and scold) and a few new passive plans. I'm going to end the dairy here, see the quests section for info on how to obtain a chocobo whistle.
2.F Chocobo Statuses
Sickness - Text: Your chocobo is feeling slightly under the weather
To cure this trade Tekkopekko Wildgrass to the npc and set your chocobo to rest, this should fix itself within a few days. Note if you havn't done the hankerchief quest this may cause your chocobo to fall into an unfixible sleep. If you leave your chocobo sick for long enough it becomes very ill.
Sleepy Chocobo - Text: Your chocobo seems to be sleeping soundly
Your chocobo has been having nightmares at night and thus has trouble waking in the mourning, after getting the white hankerchief wait till 0000 zone and give it back, this should fix itself within two or three RL days after. You can also use a chocotonic to wake up your chocobo, however this will lower affection. You can also scold it to wake it.
Perky Chocobo - Text: Your chocobo seems to be in a good mood, he is extra receptive to anything you might give him.
This means your chocobo gains a greater boost from food items such as carrots, and additional care plans may open up.
Sore Tummy
This occurs when your chocobo is overfed, feed it Garidav wildgrass to fix it.
Spoiled
Your chocobo is, well, spoiled. Dicipline it and stop letting it live such an easy life!
Injury
This occurs when you over work your chocobo on physical labour, gausebit grass will cure this
Boredom
Your chocobo has become bored, you better let it race against something soon!.
Love sick
Your chocobo is lovesick, this will wear off over time. There's no known cure.
Depressed
Take your chocobo for some long walks, basically just give your chocobo lots of love and care.
Happy
Your chocobo is in great condition, keep doing what you've been doing and your chocobo may recieve increases to whatever you're trying to raise.
2.G Active Care
Active care is basically what you can select for your chocobo manually. During the Chick stage only short walk and watch are avaliable. Watch raises affection and the short work raises strength ever so slightly, and lets you obtained a Chocobo Story.
Telling your chocobo a story may raise reception this is unknown, it takes about 5-10% energy away.
Competing against others takes away 25% of your energy away and raises strength.
The regular walk takes away 25-30% of your energy and raises strength.
Racing takes away around 30-40% of your energy and raises str.
The long walk takes away 50% of your energy.
2.H Chocobo Stories and Abilities
There are five abilities, and five stories, each chocobo can know two abilities at any given time. Each story has a corrisponding ability, and a chance to learn an ability while being read the story. The stories and how to obtain them are as follows.
Story of a Youthful Chocobo - Meet the Windurstian Trainer three times. - Short Walk
Story of a Happy Chocobo - Win Compete Against Others three times in active care. - Long Walk
Story of an Impatient Chocobo - Meet the San d'Orian Trainer three times. - Short walk
Story of a Worrysome Chocobo - Meet the Bastok Trainer three times. - Short Walk
Story of a Curious Chocobo - Meet Brutus or Beastman from BST quest three times. - Medium walk
It's unknown how to gain stories from the other three towns if you're not there already.
The five abilities are - Story Ability Correlation is just guess work at this stage.
Auto-Regen - Story of a Happy Chocobo
Bore - Story of a Young Chocobo
Canter - Story of a Curious Chocobo
Gallop - Story of an Impatient Chocobo
Burrow - Story of a Worrysome Chocobo
2.I Retiring Your Chocobo
Retiring your chocobo will cause you to gain one of three VCS plaques, these are rare/ex furniture commenting your success as a chocobo trainer. I got the yellow plaque reconising me as a Chocobo Breeder. Once your chocobo has been retiring you can still ride him.
Once you retire your chocobo it is very important that you do not loes the card that you are given. Losing this card will cause you never to be able to get your chocobo back.
2.J How do I raise a certian type of chocobo?
Basically to raise a certian type of chocobo you first have to chose which side you're going to work on. The physicals ide or the mental side, it is possible to raise both however it's a delicate process as care plans tend to cancel each other out. Hopefully, however this will help you, over time, build the chocobo you want.
Fast chocobo
To build a fast chocobo you need to feed your chocobo food that increases strength and physical attributes, try vomp carrots. Remember greens are also important for affection. One thing you'll notice while raising this type of chocobo is it gets injured alot, this isd because of the high amount of physical activity it's doing.
Between Day zero and four there's not much you can do but watch the egg, after this what you're going to have to do is start feeding it vomp carrots (day 4-19) and setting the care plan to "Take a walk" also take your chocobo for walks (active care) twice a day. Using this your chocobo should get a raise to strength in close to 17 days.
After your chocobo becomes a teenager keep the food the same but move up onto a more demanding care plan, you may also want to try and learn the abilities canter or gallop. Try delivering messages or carrying packages.
By day 50-60 your chocobos speed should be average, keep it up and you'll have a truly impressive chocobo!
Raising a treasure hunter
Raises to reception and discernment seem to take longer than strength and endurance, however it's the same deal. Feed your chocobo Zegham Carrots, and keep it's care plan set too listening to music. This is the only care plan to raises both attributes. If you want to focus on one more than the other try Digging for treasure (discernment) or Acting in a play (Recepitivity).
So far i've only got mine up to "A bit deficient" which took about 20 days.
3.A Riding your Chocobo
In order to ride an adult chocobo you need let a member of the VCS know which chocobo you wish to come when you use the Whistle. To register a retired chocobo you will need to trade a VCS card. After you use up all the charges on your whistle you can trade it to a VCS member and they will charge you for a new one.
Before you can ride your chocobo you must complete a mini quest, when you walk your chocobo you will get two options "Watch Chocobo" and "Search for Chocobo's item" Once you have found the item talk to the VCS NPC again and he should give you the whistle.
After all charges run out on a whistle you ahve to purchase a new one for a feee from th VCS NPC
e
3.B Finding your soul mate
When your chocobo grows up you have the option to create baby chocobo's. To do this you require cards a Chococard (m) and a Chococard (f). (Tickets for these are sold in Upper Jeuno).
The chick gets traits from both it's parents.
After selecting a ticket you must trade it to the VCS NPC, chocobo honeymoons take till after JP midnight.
Once your chocobo becomes an adult obtain his chocobo card through the "Ask for a chococard" option in the main menu. Once you have a male and female chocobo card, trade these and the honeymoon ticket to the breeding NPC in Upper Jeuno (Finbarr) and wait till JP midnight for the results.
Each honeymoon plan has a different result
Two enhance the chances of you getting a certian gender chick.
Two enhance the chances of the chocobo enheriting traits.
The Gourmet plan increases the chance of a male chick.
The Sports plan increases the chance of the male chocobo's traits being inherieted.
The Hiking Plan increases the chances of a female chick.
The Jeuno Tour plan incareses the chance of the female chocobo's traits being inherieted.
3.C Chocobo Racing
Selecting the "Compete against others" option in your active care menu will cause your chocobo to race against other chocobo.
The teenage lap is around the AH in southern Sandy, while the adult lap is to a sign and back in West Ronfaure.
So far there is no money to be won in this.
There is currently no way to race against other people, whoever you will need ToAU installed to do this, and you will not be able to control your chocobo while racing. However you choose, equipment, jockeys and saddles that help increasae your chocobo's abilities, so it races to it's strengths.

3.E Kamp Kweh
Kamp Kweh will be an area implimented in the next update where your chocobo can interact with other players chocobo. It is not yet known what will be possible in this area, however you will be able to view the attributes of other chocobo.
Hot and Cold
A new minigame that will be implimented in the next update. To participate talk to your VCS Member with the three following items.
A) A map of the area
A registered Chocobo
C) A clump of Tandjana Wildgrass
To play you must use your Tandjana Wildgrass in an area that is designated by your "Chocograph"
After your chocobo arrives your map opens and displays a ??? mark and points you in the direction of the hidden coffer.
Find the Marker and dig close to it. Your chocobo will provide clues based on your distance from the coffer.
Becareful though you can only dig a certian number of times.

4.BThings you should know AKA (Tips, tricks and Oh gods)
First tip is submitted by static.
(Static)
On day 4 after my chocobo hatched i took her on three walks and watched over her a couple times, needless to say her energy bar was completly drained. I then set my care plan 0 to rest for one day and when I checked on her today for day 5 her energy was at 99%.
So yeah, if you wanna wait one day and save 100k, or however much the Chocolixers are going for, resting seemed to be worth it.
My plans atm are plan 0: basic care 2 days, plan 1: rest 1 day, and repeat. Seeing as how basic care raises all stats as much as any other plan currently available does w/o any decrease other then affection and energy I think it's a good tactic for starting out chicks.

The only problem with this is your chocobo will be lacking mental attributes, reception and descernment.
Next Tip is from me.
Chocobo may get ill if you continually push them to hard (Dropping their energy bar below about 30-50%) try to keep it high and allow your baby chocobo to rest!
The Sleepy Chocobo
Your chocobo, when set to rest will sleep (obviously) however while sleeping you are unable to feed walk or otherwise interact with your chocobo, this is apprantly the same with listening to music.
4.C Rumors -
Chocobo Colour
Affected by City, Green for Windy, Red for Sandy and Blue for Bastok
Dunno if this was said but I'm fairly sure the color of the choco is determined by the description of the egg you get. There are 5 different types of eggs and 5 different types of mature chocos. Doesn't matter if you get it from an ISNM or not because you can probably buy those types in Ru'lude gardens anyway. And so far anyone who has had a teenage choco with white tipped feathers has gotten a yellow adult. By Oravis[/i]
Eggs Dying
It is possible for eggs to die if they do not recieve enough care? However one would assume the basic care plan would fix this
.
Take care of your chocobo or else...
It'll run away.
4.D Chocobo Quests
Nightmares
It appears your chocobo is having trouble sleeping at night, take this hankiechief till it carrys around your scent then bring it back.
This took about 5 hours for me, but I leveled up Corsair from 5-7 which may of been the trigger. (The leveling as opposed to which job). Anyway it was 5 hours from when I got the Hankie till when he took it back.
If your chocobo is sleeping 24/7 for no reason, make sure you do this quest! It may have an effect on waking him/her up.
There have been reports of this sleepiness ending after 0000 with one (or no zones required)
Missing Item
Your chocobo has hid an item precious to it, you must find it to demonstrate your bond with the chocobo before the VCS NPC will give you your whistle.
Complete this by taking walks and selecting "Search for Chocobo's item" my affection was maxed so it only took me three trys (One on each walk), once you find it talk to the VCS NPC and he should give you your whistle.
4.E Bugs
ok so its nothing big but im to lazy to send in a bug report cause i never log out >.> about 4th time i go on a walk and meet the galka he says "Keep up the good work with Blood!" and thats his baby chocobos name if anyone cares to send in bug report or something meh

4.F Current Tests
Currently testing care plans effect on chocobo personalities, chances of obtaining stories during walks, affects of affection on success of chocobo 'finds'. Food effects and coloured chocobos, any information regarding these would be welcomed.
