def > vit^^; use phalanx rings at 50, but until then vit +2 rings at Lv. 14 and vit +2 or +3 [depends how rich you are
] rings at Lv. 36. if i'm not mistaken 2 vit = 1 def or something along those lines.

Vitality also affects how long hp spells last on you like poison and rasp.

Early on yes, def is the way to go with some VIT mixed in. But, at a certain point def has the "diminishing effect". I'm sure you've all heard about this some time. At that point def points don't count as much as they did before that, so in essence later on you'll need more VIT and sacrificing the def is more reasonable. Like I said though, early on go def, you can't go wrong. Also, please please please keep armor up to date. No one likes a half arsed PLD. Our linkshell had one, and I made it my goal to tease him, without being cruel, to the point that he'd fine realize he can't get away without "acceptable" equipment. Needless to say he's up to date now. ^^

i heard it also lowers minimum damage taken (if defense reduces maximum damage taken). by just "examining" plds in AF in jeuno its a toss up i see just as many phalanx rings and sandoria conquest capes as i do +vit rings and bastok conquest capes

Vit Lower maximum damage u take
Def lower minimum damage u take
More vit means u take less damage constantly.. vit is important

that makes more sense to me, i would reccomend +vit since it also gives you +def and will make your damage taken more consistent, IE instead of taking 10-20 damage you take 14-16, will eliminate those freak occurences where you take very little damage one hit then a lot on the next...plus that whole diminishing effect kimmara mentioned

Get the Gluttony Sword. -1 to all stats except for vit+7. Its a must for any Paladin for awhile. I think its level 55.

...gluttony sword? I wish if you had a certain level of fame you could change the name of your weapon.

Glutonny Sword is lv57
I really think that its one of the best paladin weapons u can get. Its up to u if u want to boost both defense or vit.. one of them only.. I like vit more .. at least I don't die instantly from sickles slash and critical lol.
there's another sword that's worth getting .. I think its wing sword or something..

The thing is that VIT affects more factors than Defense alone. If it was up to me, I would get equipment that raises VIT than Defense.

Theres lots of ways to describe VIT. I'm not sure excactly what equation there is in the game that decides how VIT lowers the damage you take, but to me, you start to feel the differences when you experiment with it. My explanation of VIT is that each +point of VIT you have stuffs a pillow into your armor... Thats just how it feels to me.
Hehe...

for once i agree with this guy...lowering max damage is a nice attribute.
also i heard vit reduces chance to take a critical hit, but i heard also that it was agi, and agi makes more sense to me...
