I thought that at best I'd see some sort of quote from Chris since I had known him personally for a time before seperating from the army.
Knowing that he spoke russian and that his wife was from Chechnya....
I was in no way prepared for what I got...

An American soldier stationed in North Carolina has been detained in Moscow in the death of a Russian relative of his wife, the U.S. Embassy said Tuesday, Associated Press news agency reports.
Christopher Garner, 28, was detained Saturday after turning himself in to Russian police, who are investigating the death of his wife’s uncle in the far eastern city of Khabarovsk, the embassy said. Garner is an active duty enlisted man in the Army and is based at Fort Bragg, N.C., the embassy said, adding that U.S. military authorities were looking into the matter.
James Crabtree, a spokesman for Fort Bragg, said Garner has been on leave from the base since Sept. 3. He said the U.S. State Department was handling the case.
“We have confidence at this time that his legal rights will be respected and that the State Department will do everything possible to ensure his safety and due process,” Crabtree said.
Police in Khabarovsk, about 3,800 miles east of Moscow near the Pacific coast, said Sunday that investigators believe a U.S. citizen and his wife killed the woman’s uncle, whose body was found in a bag in a nearby village Thursday.
Khabarovsk police, who did not name the suspects, said they would be brought to the city for further investigation. Moscow police could not be reached for comment.

This has seemed so farfetched and perplexing to me since It seems to have played out like a bad novel.. This guy goes to asia. Gets in fight with his wife's relative who hits him with a lamp or some other electrical gizmo with a cord. Chris completely flips the fuck out and strangles him to death with said cord.
Now begins the stupidity.. I mean I can't really knock the guy. Who knows how they're gonna react to somthing like this until you're halfway around the world with a dead body to dispose of. One would think there would only be two routes to go...
A: Ditch the body and GTFO of dodge...
I mean Concidering where It is I'm sure lots of homeless people freeze to death on the street in the cold season.. Probably a daily occurance. Cover him in stink and cheap booze and leave him propped up in front of an empty cup with a few coins in it... Seems feasable to me...
B: Turn yourself into the police and claim self defense.
This is probably the smart option.. since the guy was beating people with whatever came to hand at the time. And he more than likely could have walked. Since he would have had the U.S. Govt on his side fighting for extradition if they tried to crucify him for it.
Instead he invented a third option.....
C: Wrap the body up, Throw it in a trash bin. Clean up the crime scene. and THEN drive 3,800 miles to Moscow and turn yourself in at a police station there.
This is the baffling part. I still don't understand it.. Why would you go to the effort to clean up after yourself if your going to go turn yourself in.. This is probably the absolute worst option. And begs for more answers.. Which sadly I won't get since Chris Garner Is now languishing in a russian prison with hardcore mobsters and other murderers, Probably for the rest of his life. Since word round the campfire is that since he's a member of a Military Intelligence batallion and due to the nature of his attempted coverup of the crime. He's probably being treated as a captured CIA operative or other sort of Spy. And Is therefor not eligable for extradition back to the United States. Leaving him at the whims of the local justice in Khabarovsk.
The whole thing is still baffling and confusing...
Apparently some of the guys will be starting a "Free Chris Garner" myspace page at some point.. If anyone would like to contribute. PM me and I will let you know once it's up.
