Grave of the Fireflies is more human than 99% of everything Hollywood produce$.

The only Hollywood film I can think of with nearly as much humanity as Grave of the Fireflies would be Schindler's List, one of my favorite Hollywood films of all time.
I could rattle off a list of anime that has been powerful and influential in the past decade, but the sad thing is that intelligent, innovative, and challenging anime is hard to find.
Recently I've gotten into SpeedGrapher. It may not be as deep or thought-provoking as some of the anime I treasure, but at least it carries very little of the typical anime pretense.
And one that hasn't been named yet: Azumanga Daioh! The Jerry Seinfeld of anime!
btw...if you haven't yet seen Jin-Roh...check it out.
