Ok, not getting a response in my own thread about this question...so I'll ask here. Got a choco on day 59 now...almost at that 65 mark when I believe is when care plans stop working. I am wondering if kamp kweh and stat boosts from chocobucks still take it into effect on a choco past that 65 day mark, while still raising it/unretired of course.

Thanks Mysty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <.<
Sarhan- You basically did 1 offspring check. that's like trying to predict probability of a six-sided die with one roll. You need to probably do it 10-20 times for an accurate result between a SINGLE PAIR of chocobos. Every pairing's going to be different. It'll only generally show you the two most probable results of the pairing as well. which's ok. But to get the actual color read-out on your bird you have to do it with other birds whom you know the color or just make random stabs at it.
Umega- You can try it and prove yes/no. From what i've heard so far it probably won't work. but you can put in some work and concrete more evidence for it either way.
Re: thread. i need to fix the choco whistle stuff soon. i know that. have it almost all prepared (screenshots) to post it up but i have to find the time still. i'll make a huge thing for mysty's thread at that time. (throw things at me till i update it)

My chocobo was green all over but had white colored tips, it stayed green.
Food the raises physical stats also lower mental stats right? And vice versa?
I heard on ffxiclopedia on the chocobo raising guide that doing 7 days of physical training and while feeding mental food, then doing 7 days of mental training and feeding physical food actually raises both stats because the food counters the care plans that lower stats. Is it possibly and true? Anyone tried it?
Also, Gallop and Canter affect your chocobo's speed and ride length outside of Chocobo Racing right? Or do those abilities only affect chocobo racing?
If Canter doesn't affect chocobo's ride length at all, I'll probably try to teach my chocobo auto-regen instead since canter and auto-regen supposely help a chocobo's endurance in Chocobo races.
Also, do you have to do a certain quest with Brutus to meet him on long walks to get Canter?

I just noticed something, seems like it takes more food to make a chocobo food as they grow. My chocobo used to be full from 2 vomp carrots. Now, as an adult, it takes 3 vomp carrots to fill it up.

i have a question about this..
day 23 on my chocobo
i've been feeding vomp carrots and walking chocobo everyday and my chocobo is still on substandard, also have had chocobo on carring packages.
anyone know what i'm doing wrong plwase give a heads up. thanks.
Inariya :
Brief/Basic Choco Time-Line:
Day 4- chick hatches
Day7- first part of choco whistle quest if you do not already have whistle.
Day 8-15- choco becomes "substandard"**
Day 14-21- choco becomes "bit deficient"**
Day 19- chick becomes young adult.
Day 24-27- choco becomes "average"**
Day 27-33- choco becomes "above average"**
Day 29- choco becomes adult
Day 29+ choco will continue to level up about once/5 days**
Day 40-50- choco should be first-class in two stats.**
Day 64- choco stops gaining stats to a large extent.
Day 129- Your chocobo is auto-retired
**This is with optimal care. Time differences influenced by sickness and original egg stats.

Is your affection "Regards you as parent" or "Wants to be with you all the time" at least? Well, when your chocobo carries packages, are they successful (You should get 200 gil)?

"Your chocobo is not recieving enough affection, and seems very depressed, You should pay more attention to your animal."
i dont understand because all i do is care for it, also i put it back on "Take a walk in town"

uggg thats why is not stating up you need to give it some cupid worms to get it back up then start feeding A zouph greens to keep it up while you are on carry packages otherwise it will keep failing careplans and will take forever to stat up. However if you choco is past day 65 your best bet is to start all over again because they dont stat up much after day 65.

my chocos str is at first class... but its endurance is at impressive and i want to get it to first class... its set to carry packages and i feed it vomp carrots and take it on long walks... am i doing anything wrong? any help would be nice please

Again depends what day its on and what its affection level is at.... carry packages is the best plan to raise endurance but if your bird is past day 65 you will have a rough time leveling it to first class. If your affection isn't maxed then you wont get the best affects of the plan to so make sure both of these are good.

I was wondering...
-when you say black + yellow = blue chocobo-
do you mean there's a high enough percent chance because it occurred enough to make a pattern, or is there a specific honeymoon? what are the bloodlines behind these choco?
-when mentioning traits-
this does include color, right?
-Black Father + Red Mother = ???-
has anyone noticed a pattern concerning black and red pairings? i want a red one. I have both cards but haven't tried it yet.
Black Chocobo (M) = 95% black, with Gallop and Canter
Red Chocobo (F) = mother was yellow, father was black, grandmother was red, so it's not a full red chocobo in fact the percent of red 'blood' is probably rather low. has good STR (dono what this means according to the owner) and Gallop.
what are the odds I can get a red chocobo by pairing the two on the plan where it inherits the mother's traits? I haven't been to Camp Kweh yet, although I'm under the impression it doesn't work with cards. nonetheless I was rather curious about these trends people are seeing with colored matchings.
I'm trying to get ahold of a Red (M) atm although I would like to get a red (F) that has more red in it (... lol) and stronger stats (if anyone on kujata has one, PM or /tell me >_>)

have still been busy. people haven't been throwing things at me enough to update, too. *keep forgetting*. um.. *reads over above posts*
chocobo feeding- they have same size 'stomach' from egg till auto-retirement. so if you notice your chocobo eats more... it's some new factor you're doing or noticing that you had not in the past. (example- you leave a tiny bit more health on your chocobo so it keeps 1 hunger spot already filled)
Gargemel- the others pinpointed bond/affection. however. it's day 23. NEVER EVER FEED IT CUPID WORMS unless it's past day 64. if you use them you basically risk stopping your stat growth. very very counter-productive. please never use worms. if you need to quickly raise your affection the best route really are chocolixirs or! use azouph greens, take your choco's care plan down to tier I, and after about a week or so you should be back up to top bond/affection.
Aramirthe- it doesn't matter what colors you use. it matters what underlaying 'genes' any given pair of chocos have. yellow + yellow = red. red + red = red. green + blue = red. it does not matter what the parent color equation is so long as they have red-underlaying genes that could be possibly expressed in the next generation.
when i look for color breeding i look for first a bird of the gender and color i need for chocobo's mate. If that cannot be found then i have to search for a chocobo that i know has or would likely have green genes (this -usually- being a bird that hasn't been bred). some birds have weak color genes and some are very strong so that it does not matter what you mate it with and you still have a large chance at desired color. mostly this just requires some decent logical analysis with kamp kweh.

with those %s.. i'd say you have a really good chance of the offspring being black. the main factor being the M. If the M has a very strong affinity towards black it'll screw over red genes even if the red F has weak black genes. if the red F has strong red genes you -may- be looking at a 50/50 pairing... but i'd say that's unlikely since the redF has a history of black in the background. (and no, there's no way to do kweh with a retired choco unfortunately)
you'd be better off trying that red F with her black father if you want red.
on another note- 6 more chocobos and then i have a M&F pair x2 of every color except yellow~ *prance*

congratulations Inariya!! that's great lol all your chocobo raising has also contributed to so many others... ncluding me... ><
people don't seem to believe me when I tell them about the underlying genes. anyway. I decided to breed two Reds, neither of which I know the bloodlines but hopefully the owner named the Red (F) "BlazingEmber" in expectation of a Red Chick from its parents. She's got Regen, so I took the Jeuno plan with receptivity so I can hopefully...
1) get a red choco
2) have it learn abilities
so what do you think are my odds Inariya?
oh, and do you garden your own azouph greens and choco food?
so I can later breed it with some guarenteed full bred with nice stats... who knows...
with regen maybe it will have more energy (though previous cases have not noticed much different) so it can do more stuff..... I haven't seen that chocolixirs have any bad effect on chocobos so why aren't people using it all the time?
I am stuck with the Female Red I mentioned before and a nice Female Black with 95 percent black and 2 abilities (canter and gallop). Seems like black is a lot more common than I expected. Still I really liked the cutscene and how the Red chocobos looked so... hopefully, hopefully.

All right...this is going to sound completely n00btastic, and you can laugh at me if you want, but... I have scoured this entire thread and can't find a direct answer to my question, so I'll just ask it: what exactly is auto-retirement? To me, it sounds like the chocobo is too old and...dies, or something...and can't be ridden. o_o So I guess the better question would be, "Can I still ride my chocobo after it is retired?"
#257
Posted 29 April 2007 - 06:29 AM
Mineyl: yes you can still ride your choco after its retired. You can always register to call your different reitred chocos by trading the VCS choco card to the choco stables NPC if you want to switch it up. You can also use whatever choco you have registered retired or not to play hot and cold game. To use retired birds in the races you need only trade the VCS choco card to the race NPC. Auto retirement is like day 120ish and that only means that the choco can no longer be fed or its stats raised beyond this day since it is a retirement.

Thank you so much, Mysty! I've just always associated retirement with getting old and not doing stuff anymore, is all.
I looked and looked and couldn't find any direct hints, so I guess someone had to ask, huh?
Thanks again.

Does anyone know how long a chocobo can be ridden with "Poor Endurance", also how about with "First class Endurance"?
Also, you can teach your chocobo abilities after day 63 right?

(hmmm)
My friend's chocobo is supposedly a black chick. He's been feeding it 1 azouph (its favorite food) and 2 vomp carrots a day, it's around day 9-10 right now and has developed a patient personality ideal for carrying packages. he says he gets skillups everyday.
I fed (supposed to be red) mine three vomp carrots till I tried today (sick hanky day, she's a week old yay) when I tried to feed her carrot paste. she was perky and would be receptive to anything I gave her, I gave her carrot paste she skilled up but mucnhed it weakly, vomp carrots (liked them before contentedly, now weakly) so I thought I'd give the paste another shot but instead she just forced herself to eat it. she did not skill up from the last one, and she doesn't skill up everyday unlike my friend's chocobo.
I also played around in Camp Kweh with an older blue chocobo which had an easygoing personality and first class STR (or END). how frequent have people had skillups from it? because I was spamming it for awhile and nothing happened ;__; I'm wondering if the chocobo's health has anything to do with it (I did it after walking her and stuff). also, if both have default personality = no skillup. or maybe i jus thave to spam a lot.
oh ya and did the camp kweh compatibility thing with my friend who owns the blue chocobo, and it showed my chocbo as red! thank you inariya :3
