KyeLeviathan, All care plans put a certian stress on the chocobo hence lower it affection. There are two ways to keep its affection high, Watching over your chocbo and feeding it affection greens (Azouph or Sharug Greens). At this point you need to focus on getting that affection back to regards as parent. Start feeding it 2 affections greens daily and watch over it until its energy is gone. Don't walk it or anything else until that affection if at the highest again, regards as parent. Having the highest affection level does affect the training, gaining you levels faster. Good luck getting the affection back up.
lynnfox, Until day 64 when your stats lock you can feed it the Zegham carrots and benefit the same way from them as you did from Vomp carrots. I have heard rumors that even after you can as well however I never tested it. Congrats on first class str and end. Good luck on finsihing your chocobo.

Thanks for the info and solution! I've begun doing such and hope to see progress soon. I'm nearing my capped stat days (currently on day 48 ) and she's still only Outstanding in terms of Strength and Endurance. I only hope this fixes quickly so I can get her into First Class. :blush

Ahh day 60 and mental stats are still poor. I've fed it 11 zegham carrots so far; 2 per day and a green depending on affection. (cuz i bought 1 stack since posting here) and no improvement. BUT~ I will continue feeding it zeghams after day 64 and see what day the stats rises. Will update when I get some results. thanks for the info!!! I will test it out! I definitely need some abilities on this choco! lol Thanks again!

Sorry if I miss explained. The carrots will not drastically raise the mental stats. They are a small boost only. You will need a care plan or to train it on chocobobucks. With the two capped stats you will only be able to get one of the mentals to I believe Average. My appologizes for the confusion. Good luck.

No problem about it. i will still feed it zegham until 64, even if it is a little, its better than nothing.
Can i train it on chocobucks after day 64 too or is that useless? actually, i dont know anything about chocobucks but if it can still boost mental stats after day 64, i'll go read a forum about it. lol

Outside of each stables in the three main cities is the Chocobo Circuit. On either side of this gate is an NPC, these are the two you need for chocbo racing for chocbo bucks. One is the racing NPC the other is the one that you go to to use your chocbobucks for items and training.
You will have to do 3 races to unlock the free run races which is what you use to gain your chocobo bucks.
The races are set on an 8 race cycle that repeats once you finish all 8 races not when it resets at Japanese midnight. There is a cost to racing and each race goes up in cost, the cost is: 100gil, 150gil, 200gil, 400gil, 600gil, 800gil, 1000gil. After the 1k gil cost it stays at 1k until the races reset, then it goes back down to 100gil. I would do all 8 races each day and it took me about 45mins - 1hr to do them all depening how attentive I was.
In the races you race against 7 other NPC chocbo's. 3 of the races have 1 of the three super chocobo that is hard to beat and 1 has all three of them. With a good bird (First class str and at least impressive end) will win in the two basic chocbo races and take 2nd in the 3 with 1 super and take 4th in the one with all three. You earn 5 chocobo bucks for 1st place, 3 for 2nd place and 1 for anything lower. You should be earning about 26 chocbobucks in an 8 race cycle.
It takes 80 chocbobucks to do one training session on a current chocbo and 90 for a chocbo coin to give to someone else to use on a current chocbo (ideal for a mule with a high level chocobo) and 100 for a retired chocobo training. It takes 7 training sessions to raise a stat one full level. You can use chocobo bucks only on an adult chocbo and they can be used on current and retired chocobo's. So yes after day 64 you can raise your stats using chocbo bucks.
I hope this helps and I was clear in explaining this. There is also a section on Wiki regarding this. Here is the link: http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Chocobo_Racing_Guide

Wow awesome Ladymist!! I totally get it now. I was running around the Choco Circuit and didnt know what to do and the explainations by the NPCs are pretty vague as well but thanks so much!!!! XD you're a choco-saver!! (that sounds like a chocolate brand name in japan) ('◇')ゞ
===========================EDIT==============================
hmm... i tried to signup for a race (maybe this is the wrong forum) but the NPCs at the Promenade said i need stuff like Victory Points and Chocobucks which I dont have since i've never raced before... am i missing something? I signed up my chocobo trading the card, and now I'm not really sure how to get a race with it... I dont even have the 10 chocobucks... how do i get it if i cant race in the first place... ; ;
any help is appreciated! thanks!
===========================EDIT==============================
hehe, figured it out.. sorry, i got the hang of choco racing now for stats but i think it's kinda late to earn enough chocobucks to raise its stats. On day 74 now and only ave 15 chocobucks... lol. so I might use this one to make the money and make my 2nd colored bird 1st class STR+END and spend the chocobucks for its DSC/RCP. But... can i race a different bird while raising another? ANyways, thank you all, esp Ladymist for the advice!!! good luck!! ъ(`-゚)

So, if you breed two chocos that have no abilities and get a baby with no abilities...is there any chance of raising its MND stats up enough to learn gallop/canter story and then turn around and make it top out in its PHYS stats? On this guide it's saying by day 40-50 it should be topped out in either MND or PHYS stats...im on day 32 and all 4 stats are substandard =( At this point do I have any hope of topping it out in STR/END after I learn the storys?

From what I've seemed to work out, the best plan is to cap Strength/Endurance stats, then set to a care plan that lowers Endurance only and raises one of the mental stats (can't remember which is raises off the top of my head) and then use chocobucks to buy chocotrains to build the other stat.
Best stats for the Circuit for C1 races seems to be Strength: First Class. Endurance: Above Average Dicernment: Above Average Recepticity: Above Average Gallop/Canter.
Requires a lot of time... and effort. But can be done from what I've seen. My bird is First Class/Impressive/Avg/A Bit Deficient. Plan on raising one using the method above but don't have enough time/gil to spend racing for chocobucks.

So Str/End Gallop/Canter isn't the only thing involved in racing? You actually need a high Dic/Rec too?

Check out my new ride! 30 days old. STR/END are at better than average which seems to be at what your guide said it should be under optimal care.

Thanks for the great guide that helped me get it to this point.

Correct. In fact, so much that END and DCS are almost tied for importance. DSC is sooo critically important. I've ran birds with FC STR/END + Gallop/Canter, and they did average, at best. When I entered my newer birds, they had DSC and REC up a bit and they did so much better. I found this formula somewhere (here i think). I'm not 100% sure of its accuracy, but I do know that it's close enough and I've found it to be very close.
Speed: STR x DSC + END + gear
Running Time: END x REC + STR + gear
As you can see, just putting one rank into REC almost doubles your top running time. Your choco won't burn out (the little beads of sweat coming off its head in the racing animation) nearly as fast, and can cover more distance at its top speed, therefore, going faster over all.
This is my currenty build:
STR: 8 - FC (capped)
END: 6 - Impressive
DSC: 5 - Better than Average
REC: 4 - Average
Gallop+Canter
I'm still working on getting to this point but even my bird, OutlawStar, still beats the 'supers' in the npc races about 1/3 of the time, with no items and he's only 8/3/5/1 Gallop+Canter. My 8/8/1/1 birds can't even do that.

Right now, my bird is Day 45: 8/8/1/1 + Gallop. Should I set it to "Digging for treasure" to raise it's DSC to average to teach it Cantor and eat the END loss, get DSC or END tokens to reduce the loss, or anything I didn't think of? Also, how do I change the saddle for my chocobo? I can't seem to find a straight answer.
EDIT: Also I hate hate hate hate those damn super chocobos in free run. It makes it impossible to accumulate a decent amount of chocobucks in a reasonable time.
EDIT2: Also what's the difference between all the attribute raising tokens and attribute raising programs? Is it just that one is an item and the other is a instant upgrade?

While you probably made up your mind, Digging for treasure would be the best option for Cantor yes.
You only have to worry about picking your saddle in the chocobo circuit races.
The tokens can be traded/sold so you can use them on a 2nd chocobo, help a friend, or try and profit, although there isn't really a market for them.

I've raised a female green chocobo to Better than Average Str/End and Deficient Dsc/Rec on a 50/50 diet of vomp/azouph, with alot of physical plans, and learned gallop. One thing I noticed was that it got love sick ALOT.
I then raised a female red on zegham/azouph 80/20 with poor and deficient stats across the board and its primary malfunction was sickness and injury (mostly injury). Tried to make a digging bird, and failed utterly.
Both of these eggs were from ISNM.
I stopped raising after my third bird, my mule's yellow from the chocobo tracks quest. Average Str/End with a diet of leftovers from wildgrass gardening and basic plans.
I still have a stockpile of azouphs and 2 isnm eggs if I feel like trying again. I gave away the stockpile of vomps to a new raiser. Hope he has better luck with those. I'm gonna try a 100% azouph diet and physical plans next time around. Who knows, it'd be kinda funny if this bird's main problem becomes stomach aches.

My Choco hit adult yesterday pretty Blue Female named LadyNeptune. STR above avg end avg, ill tempered. I will post a pic here soon. So far everything is going to plan my only concern is getting her to learn Gallop and Cantor which I need as I am going to be racing her.
My question is, if I cap her on str and end FC, then I put her on the DSC plan to lower her end to better than average or impressive and to have her DSC at average or above average. Will I have enough time left in raising my choco to teach her the Gallop and Cantor abilities?

I heard on ffxiclopedia on the chocobo raising guide that doing 7 days of physical training and while feeding mental food, then doing 7 days of mental training and feeding physical food actually raises both stats because the food counters the care plans that lower stats. Is it possibly and true? Anyone tried it?
