Ok I know historically there are nerdy stereotypes of RPG gamers: 1. The obese dirty gamer, 2. The depressed pale goth gamer and 3. The skinny math wiz with the think glasses gamer; just to name a few. But why is this?? If you look through FFXIplayers.com you see that the majority of serious gamers on your server fall into one of these categories (not the ones that play maybe 2 hours a week). I mean I am a FFXI nerd, have been for many years now but yet I get out into the world, go clubbing/dancing/drinking, go to the gym 2+ hours 5-6 times a week and as a result have a pretty kickin' bod to show for it (have a few wet undies contests awards on my wall), have a great relationship with my bf, a really good job and take the time to make sure I dress myself nice. Usually when I bring this up in game everyone is usually like "eh, i don't care enough; i'm too fat to workout; i don't care if i look good, i just buy clothes; etc"
Why are gamers (and most nerds and geeks) like this? I know you all prolly think I'm a freak but I just don't understand the lack of caring. I know for a fact you can do all this stuff and EASILY pull off 24 hours+ a week on a game.
*And no giving the "I'm just too naturally ugly/fat to ever be attractive to anyone so I don't care." Everyone can make whatever they were given work and be sexy, hell even the phantom of the opera is hot with his mask on.
Ugly gamers

Next time you're out in the real world, take a look around and notice that people are very materialistic and always trying to impress. You say you do these things out of habit, well gg for you, you live a healthy life style, the people that don't care are either 1. Content with their life and don't need some tree hugger telling them to stop poking trees with knives (analogy). Or 2. Have bad priorities and bad habits and they're in too deep to even want to muster the effort to get out of the hole they're in.
You're free to judge these people but asking why they do it is like asking why people flame forums, or why people cause drama in linkshells.

Kids kids, wet undies contest awards are porn and cash, it was a figurative statement. And Poochoo I don't think its unfair to simply ask if someone can explain why they feel a certain way. Maybe someone has thought it out and has a good explanation; that's all I want.

lack of caring did not come from rpg gamers.. its a world wide thing that some people do.. if you ask me why people do it then i think the answer is because theyr parents didnt show them how.. or they never learn.
or maybe everyone is just too ugly for your taste.. i see people in ffxiplayers.com and they look regular to me.

Didn't say it was unfair to ask them, I was more leaning towards it's kind of pointless to ask, but of course you'll get those handful of people that are ready to explain to you why they live the lifestyle they do, but again it comes down to how people feel they need to present themselves to others. A really junky/trashy person could look like the worst slob of the century in a players pic, but you don't see him when he goes to work? Or to a formal event? He might look like an entirely different person and even act differently.
As for myself, I don't get much excercise(Unless I walk/ride my bike to school which I do about 2 days out of the week), I drink alot of soda and eat alot of candy and junk food, I'm not fat, on the contrary I should gain weight, and I can have the mentality of a 6 yr old, but that doesn't bother me at all, it's the way I want to live my life, I don't need society telling me, "hey you should go gain some weight, hey stop being so lazy and cook a decent meal!" If I look ok to myself and I'm content with my life then that's all that matters. It becomes an entirely different story however if I were to say, go and get a job or go to school, when I have to socialize with others that's when you take on the whole, "respect, courtesy, manners, and to look your best around the public eye." Hypocritical? Yes, but aren't all people? To say that you've never once felt that you had to look nice to either impress someone or look like a respectable person then you are not a human being.

That's a unique spin on it (the top part) and no, I try to see the physical beauty in everyone regardless. People being unique (like having some huge scar or something) but still taking good care of themselves is far more attractive to me than some perfect person out of magazine. Except Rafael Verga, he's the hottest man alive and he's visibly perfect.

Or yes, the opposite can be said about being a person, having to dumb yourself down to be with the "in" crowd for either self-benefit or gathering information.

No, its the mindframe of a superiority complex. Generally highly intellegent people develop one when surrounded by lesser intellegents.

lol i love how a 'normal' life always involves alcoholism and 'going out'.
i'll smoke an eigth of herb a week and save my fucking money for new computer equipment, rather than blow forty bucks a night at the bar.
oh wait, i don't have tits i can shake for free drinks. maybe that makes a diff.
carry on.

I'd take one of the skinny nerds ANY DAY over someone who describes himself like that. I hate conceited assholes who think muscles = hot.
By the way, going out all the time and blowing tons of money at a bar is not what I call a "normal life." It's what I call a waste of money, and I'd take drinking with close friends at home any day. MUCH safer, too.

I agree, the dumbest people in the world are the ones who think they are smarter than everyone else in their life. They may not be able to name every element on the periodic table, but at the same time I bet you can't tell what type of liqour is in a bottle sitting at a bar just by looking at the name. Going in and spouting off how you got straight A's in all your classes in a job interview isn't going to win you as many brownie points with an interviewer that struggled in school and worked his way to the top. Everyone's knowledge has its own merits regardless.
