Metrii :
Ok well, to start i'm not mexican, Puerto Rican. Those of you who say it's "not important to know how to speak spanish", that's just stupid. As long as Carlos, Juan, Claudia and Enrique are coming to this country every day for a better life, it is good to know spanish to be able to communicate with them. No, i don't agree with the OP saying that mexicans who don't speak spanish are "disgraces" because sometimes it's not their fault, you can't expect someone who was never tought spanish as a kid to suddenly know how to speak it just because they have brown skin. I speak spanish, but i was never tought it for the same reason as others have said, my parents wanted me to not be the target of racial jokes(didn't work, but it woulda been a lot worse if i had a really thick accent).

Basically, you can still "keep it real" without speaking spanish. Yes, i support latinos learning spanish and teaching it to the kids because i think it's important to know your culture, who you are, and where you come from.

Lastly, stfu with the beaner/wetback comments. Seriously, it's not funny and none of you would probably say any of that shit to any REAL latino.

I'm always shy about asking ethnicity because where I grew up in New York there were many migrant workers and they preferred to be called Hispanic and calling them Mexican (yes, they were from Mexico) was an insult to them.

Calling mexicans hispanic and them getting mad is kinda weird o_O but you really can't go wrong with calling us latino, and yeah, we get mad when you mis-label us.. a lot like asians.

Completely agree with you on that. Racism comments are getting very old and annoying. That whole shit about Mexicans cutting yards, picking fruit and all that shit is stupid. People do what they have to do to make a living because they rather get some opportunity than what they didnt have before. You should be glad that you're not in their position than picking on them. They didnt ask for that shit to be put on them.

It's funny because I'm actually a mixed person. I'm 1/2 Mexican and 1/2 Black and for me, it gets very tiring when people, those without any concern for people's cultures or are too ignorant and stupid to except other people's culture, keep saying the same shit over and over about black and mexican people. It really gets old and having culture > people who have none.

And I agree, it's kinda handy to know more than one language. That goes for anyone. Bilingual is good to be but not everyone had the chance to learn another language because they never use the language. My Dad is a Mexican and he never taught me how to speak Spanish, simply because I wasn't around it a lot back then (I moved to Georgia after leaving Texas) but now I see how cool it would be knowing the language (I live in Florida now).

All in all, if your Mexican and dont speak Spanish, it doesnt matter. Race doesnt define the person, personality and will does. Race doesnt make you have to be a certain way.

As racist as it may sound depending on how PC you are, I *ALWAYS* hear Hispanic parents speak only Spanish to their children in stores and crap.
How will this affect the child, not enforcing English on them in a public setting? (I assume they don't speak it that much at home since they would've in public)
It's good that a child would know more than one language, but PLEASE teach them the country's official language as the majoirty of it.
I took a preschool-teaching class in highschool for two years, and we had a child who was very hard to understand in English, but his Spanish was fluent for his age.. it's clear he could understand English, but speaking it is more important than reading/writing it at that age to communicate with their peers.

It's fine if you don't know the language of your ethnic background, unless there's some hidden requirement or you must know it for religious means >.>

Dimmauk :
I'm Hispanic and I cant speak any Spanish. When someone asks me if I can speak Spanish I tell them "I'm Middle Eastern", and when someone asks me if I speak Arabic, I tell them "I'm Hispanic"

That is so the easy way out...

To everyone else, LEARN FUCKING ENGLISH IF YOU WANT TO LIVE IN THE US BECAUSE I'M TIRED OF MY FUCKING CEREAL BEING IN TWO DIFFERENT LANGUAGES!

Now get to flaming me you noobs and maybe I'll check back before FW gets murdered.

This stuff is hilarious to me...i'm one of them so called "Self hatin' beaners"...well that's what my friends call me >_< I'm 18 and 100% mexican and I can't help but be racist...not seriously but hell it makes me laugh. Nothing more funny than watching drunk beaners tryin to speak english in order to pass themselves off as "American." I speak both english and spanish and luckily I learned both at the same time. I usually try to avoid speaking spanish because I guess i'm one of those mexicans the OP is discribing in his post lol except for the fact that I speak spanish :dozingoff um....about the whole mowing lawns and picking fruit stuff...I get to laugh at myself because from age 11-17 I was picking tomatoes and avocados and distributing them to diffrent stores and restaraunts but now i'm in Real Estate /cheer. Oh! for all you non-hispanics and/or hispanics that don't speak spanish yall should run up to a group of beaners and say these words to them...say them fast! Here they are: TEN, GO, FREE, HOE, LESS, END, ME, COOL, OH
