Ok well, to start i'm not mexican, Puerto Rican. Those of you who say it's "not important to know how to speak spanish", that's just stupid. As long as Carlos, Juan, Claudia and Enrique are coming to this country every day for a better life, it is good to know spanish to be able to communicate with them. No, i don't agree with the OP saying that mexicans who don't speak spanish are "disgraces" because sometimes it's not their fault, you can't expect someone who was never tought spanish as a kid to suddenly know how to speak it just because they have brown skin. I speak spanish, but i was never tought it for the same reason as others have said, my parents wanted me to not be the target of racial jokes(didn't work, but it woulda been a lot worse if i had a really thick accent).
Basically, you can still "keep it real" without speaking spanish. Yes, i support latinos learning spanish and teaching it to the kids because i think it's important to know your culture, who you are, and where you come from.
Lastly, stfu with the beaner/wetback comments. Seriously, it's not funny and none of you would probably say any of that shit to any REAL latino.
Calling mexicans hispanic and them getting mad is kinda weird o_O but you really can't go wrong with calling us latino, and yeah, we get mad when you mis-label us.. a lot like asians.

I'm always shy about asking ethnicity because where I grew up in New York there were many migrant workers and they preferred to be called Hispanic and calling them Mexican (yes, they were from Mexico) was an insult to them.

Completely agree with you on that. Racism comments are getting very old and annoying. That whole shit about Mexicans cutting yards, picking fruit and all that shit is stupid. People do what they have to do to make a living because they rather get some opportunity than what they didnt have before. You should be glad that you're not in their position than picking on them. They didnt ask for that shit to be put on them.
It's funny because I'm actually a mixed person. I'm 1/2 Mexican and 1/2 Black and for me, it gets very tiring when people, those without any concern for people's cultures or are too ignorant and stupid to except other people's culture, keep saying the same shit over and over about black and mexican people. It really gets old and having culture > people who have none.
And I agree, it's kinda handy to know more than one language. That goes for anyone. Bilingual is good to be but not everyone had the chance to learn another language because they never use the language. My Dad is a Mexican and he never taught me how to speak Spanish, simply because I wasn't around it a lot back then (I moved to Georgia after leaving Texas) but now I see how cool it would be knowing the language (I live in Florida now).
All in all, if your Mexican and dont speak Spanish, it doesnt matter. Race doesnt define the person, personality and will does. Race doesnt make you have to be a certain way.
