I'm convinced a group will get to the top faster with a group that prefered summoners to blue mages.

The group that can get to the top faster is the group that uses teamwork and research to squeeze the most out of every minute spent in there. Blu and Summoner are both sort of catch all jobs that both require 3 unlocks to be really useful. So their either both a drag if your alliance is sloppy and stupid or both useful and functional in under 10 minutes if your alliance knows what their doing.

If you want to continue bickering over every little nuance and JA and spell in an endless annoying and pointless Epeen show-off over which job is better please do so in either the summoner or the blue forums. This thread is for new information on Salvage and if you don't have that kindly sit quietly in the background. Some of us actually check this thread for information.

-Ljacket Hello. I will translate the Japanese livedoor page. If you find it useful and want to repost it somewhere else, please do so – but also, please give me credit for the translation. It will motivate me to do more translations in the future, and that helps everyone, smile.

For those of you who know who the hell I am: No, I still haven't gotten those Leaping Boots and it's not looking good; 400 gil just doesn't go as far as it did 2.5 years ago...

This will be very long, so I apologize in advance.

FF11 Salvage - Bhaflau Remnants

Information appearing in ""gray"" means that it is unconfirmed.
The usage and consequences thereof of this information is the sole responsibility of the User
The author will not be responsible for any damages incurred by the usage of the information appearing on this page@

O Summary
The time limit for completing Salvage is 100 minutes. There is no way in which to extend the time limit.

Salvage consists of five levels, the boss resides on the last. Defeating the boss will yield about 2 armor piece drops. The body piece (if it drops) will be among these.

O Preparation

You're probably best off following the instructions of the person organizing the Salvage run. Prepare they way they say you should prepare. Think about the needs and the situation of Your Party, and prepare accordingly.

Other Information

O The Megaboss' weaknesses
It is /unknown/ whether or not weaknesses for the megaboss actually exist. The strength of the Megaboss appears to be different every run, but whether this is because of killing Mid-bosses or satisfying some other condition/s is unclear.

O How to get the Lv 35 equipment to drop

On each level, there is an NPC named “Dormant Rampart”. If you target it, your party will be warped to a place where you will do battle with the NM “Reactionary Rampart”. The rare drops do not come from killing Reactionary Rampart! Reactionary will summon bees, but occasionally he summons other things. The LV 35 equipment is obtained by killing these Rare Pops. Each time the Reactionary uses summon, it loses a bit of HP. You want it to use Summon as many times as it can, so there are more chances for it to produce a Rare Pop – and thus more chances for you to get a Lv 35 equip drop. Thus, don't deal damage to Reactionary, just kill the summons. As well, there will be times when Reactionary produces /no/ Rare Pops. It's also possible that you kill a Rare but get no drop; in this case, allow Reactionary to continue summoning, you might get the drop from a later Rare Pop.

(ljacket's note: In the Drops column in the table below, first you'll see the name of the actual drop (the Lv 35 gear), and then below it in parenthesis, the name of the Lv 75 counterpart. Most of you will already know this, but the Lv 35 equipment is upgradeable to the Lv 75 equipment.

(ljacket's note: You'll notice that in the table above, some of the entries explicitly state whether the mob can drop ANY or only SOME of the unlock items, but other columns only say "armor"ť or "stats". This is a direct translation of what's on the page. My guess is that the author was not sure if it was SOME or ANY. The "etc" on the Troll drops are also straight from the original page)

(Now for the text on the right side of the map...)

When you enter the zone you start at (H-11). As soon as you enter the 100 minute countdown begins, your party will be butt-friggin' naked and you'll have no choice but to melee the mobs hand-to-hand.

o Scrolls of Instant Reraise are absolutely crucial. And once again – It's a good idea to bring potions, pills, and any other items that restore HP.
o In the early portion of Salvage, Au Laits (for HP Regen) are da bomb. Highly Recommended.
o Wamoura and Machine-type mobs are True Sight
o For the other mobs, you can use Invis and Sneak to avoid detection as you would in any of the normal areas.

Your party will have two options. 1) Proceed along the Eastern Route. 2) Proceed along the Western Route. Once the party starts heading down either of these Routes, the other one will become locked; If you start heading East, the West Route gets locked off and vice-versa.

o The Western Route
(G-10) Eastern Room
Wamouacampa(wamoura Grubs)...there are two of these here.[You can get Restriction Unlock items here for the Ranged slot, as well as for ANY of the armor slots; at maximum 7~8 of them will drop, however they will drop unlocks for no more than three of the armor slots]
Bifons(Bombs)...there is one of these here[Drops Unlocks for Weapon, Subjob, HP, MP]
Wamouracampa are non-aggro and they link. They will hit you for about 40 damage points.
(ljacket's note The following is a description of the Mobs TP movies. The names of the TP moves are phonetically given and it's hard for me to guess what they might be in English. Someone please {Help me out!})
Saa-maru(?) Breath : AoE that hits for about 50 DMG
Vitrolic Spray : Frontal AoE that hits for about 50 DMG
Bombs aggro to sight and magic, they can be avoided by going invis.
Bombs /do/ self-destruct but it's weak. You're going to have to hand-to-hand melee these down since it's still the beginning and you're gimped. Bombs use Burn and FireGa II. Its normal attack hits for about 55DMG.
FireII: Hits for 55DMG, FireGa II: Hits for about 120 DMG.

(G-10) Corridor
Bifons(Bomb)...there's one of these here.[Drops Unlocks for Weapon, Subjob(the chance of it dropping this one is high), HP or MP(low chance of dropping); it will drop 0 or 2 items]

And Next, the room at (F-9)~(G-9)
Bifons(Bomb)...there's two here.[Drops Unlocks for Weapon, Subjob(high chance of dropping), HP or MP (low chance of dropping); it will drop 0 or 2 items]
Wamouracampa(Wamoura Grub)...there's three of these here. [Ranged slot, ANY of the armor slots; At most these will drop a total of about 7~8 items, however you will get no more than three different types of Unlocks]

There will be rooms to the East and to the West of the one you are in, in them are...
Bifons(Bomb)...one in each room.[Weapon, Subjob(high chance of dropping), HP or MP(low chance of dropping); it will drop 0 or 2 items]

(ljacket's note: At this point on the webpage, on the left there is an image of a pink-shell carrying Galka named Aircommand targetting a Wamouracampa. The text on the right hand side, starting from the very tippity-top of the image...)

In addition, there are two dead-end rooms that can be reached from this point (one is north from the eastern room, the other south->east from the western room). In one of these rooms you might encounter...

[Mid-Boss]Mad Bomber (Bomb NM)...it is possible that it might not pop though.
If Mad Bomber does pop, it will be in one of the dead-end rooms (in the ascii-map above, the four rooms labeled with “MB”). Mad Bomber has /mad/ HP, but if it self-destructs it insta-dies. Therefore, it's probably a good idea to just cure-bomb your party to stay alive until it decides to self-destruct. As well, just like the Bombs in Besieged, Mad Bomber will gradually get bigger as time passes. Bomber does not rely on TP, it will self-destruct after a certain amount of time has elapsed. We have not confirmed what its drop are yet though.
If you beat Mad Bomber without self-destructing it, Dormant Rampart(a NPC) will pop. Targeting it will warp your party to Reactionary Rampart's(Mob) location, you'll be able to fight it here. The detailed explanation will be given later, in the info for the second Floor.

(F-8) Corridor
Bifons(Bomb)...there's one of these here.[Weapon, Subjob(high chance of dropping), HP or MP(low chance of dropping); it will drop 0 or 2 items]

(F-7) Small room
Wamouracampa(Wamoura Grub)...there's three of these here. [Ranged slot, ANY of the armor slots; At most these will drop a total of about 7~8 items, however you will get no more than three different types of Unlocks]
Troll Lapidarist(Troll)...there's one of these here.[Weapon, Subjob, HP]
The Trolls are a bit strong, so be careful.

(G-7) Room
Troll Lapidarist(Troll:Dark Knight)...there's one of these here.[Weapon, Subjob, HP]
Bifons(Bomb)...there's two of these here.[Weapon, Subjob(high chance of dropping), HP or MP(low chance of dropping); it will drop 0 or 2 items]
Wamouracampa(Wamoura Grub)...there's six of these here. [Ranged slot, ANY of the armor slots; At most these will drop a total of about 7~8 items, however you will get no more than three different types of Unlocks]
The Wamouras will link, so be careful.

(H-8) Big Room
Troll Ironworker(Troll: Ranger)...there's two of these here[Weapon, Subjob, HP]
Wandering Wamoura(Wamoura Adult)...there's three of these here.[Magic Use or Abilities; You will definitely get at least one of each, but they do tend to lean towards dropping more Abilities Unlocks than Magic Use Unlocks. You'll get between 1 and 3 drops]
The Wamoura's AoE is a bit strong, so keep your rear-guard, non-melee, support, mages (basically anyone who doesn't need to be up in its face) out of AoE range. The Magic unlocks that drop from the Wamouras will unlock one person only, so make sure you have decided precedence and order of who gets what drops first beforehand!(don't burn time negotiating drops)
It is highly recommended that you kill all three of these and unlock Magic Use for three members of your party.
Rangers will mete out damage like Gods here, especially if they are using holy bolts. Bloody bolts will give pretty decent HP Drain, so this will make it easy for them to keep their health bars in the safe-zones.

[Screenshot]
Aircommand uses ranged attack against the Wandering Wamoura, hitting for 138 damage.
Additional Effect->97 HP are drained from Wandering Wamoura
[up arrow] Bloody bolts

[Screenshot]
Aircommand uses ranged attack against the Wandering Wamoura, hitting for 270 damage.
Additional Effect->58 damage.
[up arrow]Holy bolts

Head south. The warp to the next floor is ahead at (H-9). The party will regain full HP and MP when it warps. The first person to warp will cause the entire party to be warped as well.

* Tips: When taking the Western Route on the first floor...
At first, just ignore the Wamoura. You want to take care of the Bombs and Trolls first.
With regards to the room with the six Wamoura near the end of the route – If you are careful not to let them link, you can take them all out without burning too much time so don't worry. Your party should also be strong enough to handle them despite the power-downs, so no worries there either. (Take 'em out!! You've got to keep 'em separated!)
If you want to unlocked the Ranged slot, you're going to have to be a bit lucky because it's possible that you'll kill all six and not get the drop to unlock it.
You will definitely get the unlocks for Magic and Abilities from the three-group Wamoura Adults.

o Eastern Route
Carmine Eruca(Red Potato) There are 14 of these all together:[ANY of the Status Unlocks]
Bifron(Bomb) There are 7 of these all together:[Weapon, Subjob, HP, MP Unlocks]
NM Bomb(Mad Bomber):Found in one of the dead-end rooms.
Troll Gemologist, Troll Lapidarist(Troll) There's two of each:[HP, MP, Subjob, Abilities]
Sulfur Scorpion(Scorpion):[Magic Use, Abilities] There are three of these in the last large room found near the end of the Route.
* The types of mobs that pop in the Central Room depend on which Route (Eastern or Western) you took through the area.
*Regarding the mob placement on the Eastern Route, the Carmine Erucas are in the same positions the Wamouracampas are in the Western Route. Similarly, the Scorpions are in the same positions the Wamoura Adults are in.

There's a lot more to translate (and juicy info too!) but I'll do that a bit later (perhaps sooner if there is a great clamor, gnashing of teeth, and grinding of hips). Translating takes quite a bit of time and I curious as to see if my Phat stack of (honestly priced) rabbit tails have sold yet...

(ljacket's note: On the original map image, you'll notice on the bottom left there is a green bubble and then some text.
That text says: "The places on the map marked with the green bubble indicate the warp points to floor 3." This information is already
covered in the Legend, so there's no need to include it. )

..and the text on the right of the Map reads....

The entrance to the zone from the first floor is at (H-10).
The central portion of the map contains four small rooms. In each room you will find one:
Empathic Flan(Flan)...there's one in each room, that's four in total.[Magic Use, Abilities; Each Flan will definitely drop one of each. Sometimes it will even drop 2 Magic Use Unlocks and 1 Ability Unlock.]
Flans will use ThunderGa III and Ancient Magic, so be careful.
You're in for some hard times taking these down with physical attacks but these will definitely drop at least one Magic Use and one Ability Unlock each so make sure you kill them all. Again, sometimes they will drop 2 Magic Use Unlocks.
Monks that have Formless Strikes are Gods here! Your monks are going to be your MVPs for attack against these Flans.
Even more powerful than Monks fists are Holy Bolts. The additional damage from the bolts will be close to 100 DMG.
As well, we've confirmed that Paladins using Spirits Within will hit Flans for over 1000 DMG.
->The magic damage output is probably doubled.

On the East and West sides of the Central area, there are two doors. Past the doors, there are corridors extending to the right and left, respectively. When you open one of the doors, the other one close. The Unlock items for Ears, Fingers, and other armor slots are going to stop dropping real soon. You're going to be getting more Magic Use Unlocks very shortly, so be thinking about who should get them.

Additionally, sometimes Dormant Rampart(NPC) will pop near one of the rooms adjacent the Door. If you target it, you will get a prompt “Open the door? Yes/No”. If you choose Yes, the entire party will be warped to another floor. If Dormant Rampart pops on the East side, the party will be warped up to the third floor, zoning in inside of the North-Center room. There, you'll be able to battle the [Mid-Boss] Reactionary Rampart. This NM is extraordinarily weak and you'll be able to stomp it into powder fast but it has an Ability called “Visitor” - when it uses this, it will summon several “Hunting Wasp”s every 15 seconds. When you defeat Rampart, your party will immediately be warped back to where you were before on the second floor.

At the end of each corridor on the East and West Routes, you might find a “Socket” (it does not pop every time though.) If you trade any of the Unlock items to it, Flux Flan pops. Defeat it and it will drop double of whatever item you traded. However, Flux Flan is not a guaranteed pop, even if the socket is there. Also, if you trade more than one Unlock item of the same type you'll get double that number from the Flux Flan drop. For example, if you trade 2 items, you get 4 drops from Flux. If you trade 3, you get 6 drops.

From here, you can go North or South. The warp points to the third floor is at (G-7) if you take the West -> North route, and at (G-11) for the West -> South route.

The warp locations along the East -> North and East -> South routes correspond to the West routes, as the area is symmetrical.

o Western Route

-Second Floor, West -> North Route.

Wamouras will link so be careful when they link in groups of more than two.
You can sleep them but they have a high resist so this is dangerous and you want to avoid getting links at all costs. They tend to cluster too, so be especially careful.

(ljacket's note: On the left side of the page, there are three images:
o Aircommand the Galka, no longer naked, standing in front of a Socket.
o Flux Flan. The text below shows it dropping two of the Magic Use Unlocks
o Aircommand standing in front of Dormant Rampart. The text reads: “The NPC Rampart. Target this and you'll be warped and end up fighting the NM show in the image on the right.”
The image to the right of this, of course, shows:
o Reactionary Rampart. As well, Aircommand is in the house. Next to him is one of the many Hunting Wasps that Reactionary Rampart summons. The text under the image reads: “This is the NM. It will spam 'Visitor' and summon Bees.”
o Below this is a map of the third floor. The text under it reads: “This is were you get warped to by Dormant Rampart. No monster other than Reactionary Rampart will pop.

sweet :

Some of us actually check this thread for information.

ditto, thank you.

To stem the tide of "me too" posts, allow me to say I'm sorry for my comments. I think that had to be the most venemous post I've made on KI.

Discussing useful jobs in Salvage has been brought up a few times in this thread, and it's relevant to the strategy. I don't think it's right to end that part of the discussion on my account.

You have to understand, I've leveled blue mage and I love the job. It could be going into Salvage with a handful of blue mages to Head Butt spam everything to the point where anything you fight can't do a thing back to you would be a smart idea... or maybe other approaches could be discovered.

I was being overly dismissive because being told, despite giving reasonable arguments discovered from personal experience, that summoner is the worst job ever for Salvage, especially coming from someone who plays a job that doesn't really start off strong in Salvage either, really hit a nerve.

I understand that Blue Mage is the golden child job of Aht Urghan, and its popular belief that they are better than they really are when you look at it critically. I can be critical because I've played that job, and several others, to get an idea of its strengths and failings.

I would also understand if people felt that using summoners wasn't right for how they'd like to get through Salvage.

But being outright dismissive that summoners must be bad because it's not generally a beloved job and it's a waste to even give it a chance... that's just the attitude that really kills this game for me.

You'll be happy to know, as a result of being tired of facing this attitude, not just here, but elsewhere, I've decided this game is no longer for me. After 3 years of playing, I can't take another year of preconceived notions and lack of creativity in this community. I make mistakes, but I feel as though I have enough experience to at least make a suggestion that could be taken seriously. A "maybe I'll give it a shot" would've been nice, at least.

This game has lost all sense of adventure for me, and it's obviously souring my attitude. Games are meant for fun... so it's time to move on.

Take care, and good luck.

Thanks for all that wonderfully detailed and impeccably observed Salvage information.

Anyways... has anyone seen the Dormant Rampart on Bhaflau's 2nd floor west route? I've only observed it to the east and not heard of it ever spawning on the west side.

I have now been through Bhaflou Remnants 5 times. The first three we took the east route on the first floor and most of my alliance stayed naked throughout the run. every time we took the east route we were able to spawn dormant rampart via killing all of the flans on the second floor. the two times we have taken the west route we have only spawned rampart once(the time he didn't spawn we were in a party of 6). We also have only seen Mad Bomber once on the west route, although we have been unable to defeat him previous to his self-destruct.

I have noticed the mobs are ALLOT tougher depending on the ammount of people you take in. For this reason our alliances always ends up farming normal mobs and NMs for teir I and teir III drops. our 6 person runs are more efficent and we tend to reach the forth floor fairly quickly, however LBC seems to want to fight more then just 6 people and gets very angry when just us show up. One of our major dificulties is getting cells for magic/abilities and weapons for the whole alliance. We have now decided to have each job list three items they absolutely must have in order to function. after that we are goiing to horde 3-4 cells for magic and/or abilities and have flux flan double these to dole out to the whole alliance.

Does anyone have a strategy for getting their alliance up and running and to the 5th floor quickly?

Area: Bhalflau Remnants
Floors: 1-4
Party members: 12
Armor Drops: Njord's Trousers

This was my fourth trip to the Bhalflau Remnants, it was notable though, because this was the first time we fought the summons of the Reactionary Rampart (The Gate NM that appears when you kill the Mad Bomber). This was a fun fight for me, but can be grueling and it can make you dizzy. Before we started, leader made sure that everyone knew to not attack the Rampart itself, just the chigoes and HQ summons it spawns. The Rampart's summoning speed can vary, but the most amount of Chigoes we had to deal with at once was probably 5. They appear to share hate, as I got hate regularly as Thief/Ninja resulting in my tanking 3 Chigoes at a time with HP restricted and no armor, if you have mages sleepga can be useful if your DD are getting overwhelmed. Healers should be very wary about curing someone tanking multiple chigoes unless they're close to death though. All DD should know how to switch targets quickly to avoid weapon delay incurred by drawing weapons in-between Chigoe kills and be prepared to move and re-orient themselves as necessary. One Gate Window would spawn for about 20 chigoes, we fought 4 of the Gate Windows totally which unfortunately didn't drop anything even with 2 Thief in the alliance. After killing about 90 summons, the Rampart will fall to the ground and you can continue on.

P.S. Hi Spam, come do Salvage with Guivre and I. biggrin.gif

Area: Bhalflau

Party members: 11

Drops: Enyo's Leggings X3
Njord's Trousers X2
Nemain's Sabots X2

Got LBC to about 55% but ran out of time because we spent too much time gawking at all the drops. Anyone else ever seen this many or more? We had no thief btw.

Just gonna say I don't think SMN is useless. It's Summons would be very useful for bosses or NMs on later floors. Just because something isn't useful right off the bat like MNK doesn't mean anything. And I agree that talking usefulness of jobs is important as well. By the way, I'm the leader of a Salvage shell, and we've done several runs. 2 Bhaflau 2 Zhayolm 1 Silver Sea 1 Arrapago. Arrapago and Silver Sea are tough without alot of starting damage. Zhayolm's first floor takes alot of time, so we've yet to get to the 6th floor. We've hit the Bhaflau boss both times. He isn't kitable, we tried, and he was hitting our fully equipped NIN for 300+ dmg and attacking really quickly. Has anyone killed him yet? And how? Btw, sorry if any of this is repeated.

Level 15 armor: drops off of normal monsters and notorious monsters.

Level 25 armor: drops off of area bosses (AB not MB)

Level 35 armor: drops off of special notorious mosters.

Now something about the Area Bosses...

All the AB in the salvage area are clearly "chariot" type enemies. Now the rumor about the JPs saying defeating other chariots weakens cannot be completly ignored because usually JPs learn stuff before us or are incredibly good a suggesting theorys that actualy work. Now seeing as how there's the 100 minute time limit we can understand that if you take a full alliance there's no way you will get ALL cells to unlock all pathos locks (unless your REALLY good and REALLY fast) this means the chariot AB cannot be truly more powerful than the regular chariot enemies with the exception of special atacks. In addition when fighting the AB you a warped to a floor desolete of any other enemies with the exception of the AB. The whole floor in essence is the battlefiled so this could mean kiting methods are the way to go because from reaserch and data staright tanking results in death. An example is that of B. Remnats AB, his most devastating atack results when the person with most hate is directly in front of him (as the the huge ass fucking cannons in front of him wasent a clue lol) thus a method of side-steping kiting is the best method. Take into account this info when fighting the AB as they all seem to posses the same basic behaviour.
