I'm in sandy and Talked to a kid, who gave me identical quest. (D-9)ish where moogle for events usually are

I can't seem to get the New year's gift though, and I've traded a ton of crap to them.

I kept trading to the Wood Bugard in West Raunfere. It seemed like the biggest bugard out of the pack. I got present on the 11th trade. Right now I'm having problems finding the grandpa. I didn't see him on the airship to/from jeuno/sandy.

He seems to really like crystals though, I've gotten presents both times with crystals trading after I ran out of item drops.

Looks like the furnishing guy is only on the airship jueno/windy. Never saw him on sandy/jeuno

I went through a ton of crystals before he gave me the present, so its totally random

Thanks for the guide locketaru! I tried to do it, like you wrote and here how i got it to work:

firstly.. the trading thing is relly annoying I tradet around 200 items to these bugards, also in saruta..



normally i only got buffs from them..



..or nothing

but after around the 216ish time i finally got the gift. maybe it's because I /slap'ed them



Then the thing with the NPC in Windy was no problem, got the Club right away.



And now for the Airship-Granpa: I was on the Ship from Jeuno to Windurst and could do the quest with the parchment & inc and also got the copy of "hoary spire"





I'll now try the same thing with the other two nations, will update later!

UPDATE for Sandy:

Did now the same thing in Sandy. Could get the Gift like befor but the kid in Sandy gave me only some fireworks..

After, I just waited for the airship, but there was no granpa. both ways, Sandy - Jeuno and Jeuno - Sandy.

and i found out, you have to trade them items. If you trade gil, they will say the same thing, but you won't get the gift and you also won't loose your gil .. for any reason ..

UPDATE for Bastok:

Could get another Gift (that time only 100 items ^^) and found the kid at (D-11) in Bastok Markets at the Gate to south Gustaberg. Name: Bunta.

Again, got fireworks.

But again, no granpa from Bastok to Jeuno & from Jeuno to Bastok.

throughout the entire event i never quite figured this out.

i'm still kindof weirded out, seeing as ive been with this game for 3 years now and i'd always be taking a break when the new year comes around..
