Children of Mana is meh. It get's repetitive.

Valkyrie Profile II is awesome, and no you do not need to play the first.

I personally liked Legend of Mana better than Children of Mana.

And I like Children of Mana better than Sword of Mana.

So...Children of Mana is "eh". Get some other games. There's much better games to get than Children of Mana.

I guess its the same as Secret of Mana (and Sword of Mana) in terms of you run around and fight enemies in real time...but the item system is very different in Children of Mana. You can use two weapons at a time (they're both assigned to two different buttons), and use two different items on the fly by pressing the button they are assigned to. But the menu/chat screens are very very tedious, and all you do to fight enemies is just spam the attack button alot. I realize that's how it basically was in Secret of Mana as well, but it wasn't as prevalent because the mobs weren't 5+ at a time in a constant barrage with no dungeon exploring (which is exactly how it is in Children of Mana). That's how it pretty much is everywhere in the game.

Storyline...hardly.
