Yup, I'm green. Super green.
I only got it yesterday and I had quite a good first outing. It's a little overwhelming to start with but people seem cool enough in Remora. I managed to do the Valentione quest with someone that I met and they even gave me 20,000g to get me started. :boing
Unfortunately, they bailed before I could huckle them into mentoring me so I was wondering if anyone in here maybe had time to show the ropes to newbie scum like myself ?? It seems that most people can't be bothered but I can totally see why, I can be the same about other games.

One of the quickest and also very old school way to get any desired info is
/shout
That will lead to laughs, calling you noobs, and answers of your question usually.
But it is always good to be more self- efficent.
Therefore use the KI guide or other forum guides (can find in KI Links)
Level process wise, I advice you use those gil to -
1. find NPC in ur home country and buy the Maps
2. get a good sword and some armors.
3. make your spells up to date.
Most purchases and transations are done in Aution House (AH).
Solo in first 2 zones out side your home country.
After you reach Lv 10 and have skill horned, equip and spells relatively completed.
then you can move on to PT fights in Valkum Dunes.
You will learn a lot of new things in PT,
hope you have fun with this game ^^

Thanks very much for that. I'll start having more of a "point" to my game now.
I've already foolishly gone and squandered a grand on some bronze armour and a sword. I'll keep my eyes peeled for the good stuff though. I'm not really sure what I'm doing yet but at least it's enjoyable with it.

Ahhh a grand is nothing, that's generally what a normal stack of crystals sells for on the AH.
Depending on where you started theres generally a few good things to sell from the mobs that drop in their respective starter regions (generally bee's are the best target as far as gil is concerned at those levels, not so much for XP as their move Final Sting does hurt).

Remora isnt that bad... not good but not bad... you will find alot of tools on Remora that wont be willing to help but you can also find really helpful people best of luck to ya if im online just ask me for advice and i will try to help the best i can but im a noob too

Hey pal, welcome to Final Fantasy XI. I first started playing 6 years ago when my cousins Who flung Dung and Hung to Low sent me a copy of their game from the Great Replublic of China, The 1st thing I remember is the message that pops up before you select your character.It say's something about dont get addicted to this game or whatever , I don't pay any attention to it,but when I first saw that I was like,what kind of fucking loser could get addicted to this gay ass game.
Well , 0 women and 6 years later I am a addict, I play 22 hours out of the day and get 2 hours of sleep in when I can during event down time. I didn't even go home for christmas last year because day 8 Nidgay was comming up. We claimed it and it dropped a M body, so it was well worth it.
Oh and showers, well, I can count on one hand how many showers I have taken in the last 6 years.But the thought of claiming Adamantoise makes me cream in my pants. Even though I have never been able to claim Adamantoise, I one day hope it may be possable , because when I level my MNK/WHM i want to have a Brown Belt it drops, which costs alot of gil, so It is well sought after.All the good monks have it, But I still think my war/whm is good, just not as good as a mnk/whm with brown belt,
Anyways welcome to FFXI , maybe one day you can come see me and be my friend in our sweatshop here in China.We like to take all the NM's in the game and fuck with people by xping on their gimpo parties. It takes these losers months to level a job to 75,sometimes years,
But it takes us like 3-4 days, you just gotta have a shift partner,so you get 2 hours of sleep, and you are good to go.
As for what job you should level, Go RDM/WAR or BRD/MNK, those are 2 great combos and I'd open a can of Pawn on god with that.

Meh, I was just wanting to check out this FF "community" I'd read so much about. It's all a little different than the picture painted.
