Yup, I'm green. Super green.

I only got it yesterday and I had quite a good first outing. It's a little overwhelming to start with but people seem cool enough in Remora. I managed to do the Valentione quest with someone that I met and they even gave me 20,000g to get me started. :boing

Unfortunately, they bailed before I could huckle them into mentoring me so I was wondering if anyone in here maybe had time to show the ropes to newbie scum like myself ?? It seems that most people can't be bothered but I can totally see why, I can be the same about other games.

be careful with whom you choose to be around, some are not as they would seem , take care Balthazar

BTW, good luck on remora, you're going to need it lol.

Great, trust me to randomly land on the turkey of all servers :wall I knew it had started off too well.

I've found the maps in Bastok market though, so at least that's progress. I'm heading for the AH now to see if there's anything good.
I might trade in some of these crystals that I've found too... printing money.

Hey hey, I resent that Turkey comment ; ;

HEY! I resemble that remark!

BTW pay no attention bi-polar Balthazar. He's nearing LV75 and is still a n00b. Good Luck.

No worries. When I was reading your post, I could actually see a few remarks which could end up not being too far from the truth.... if taken down a notch. Especially the whole bit about the message that pops up at the start. :con

PS . Like Paris ??

Easy

- Solo to lv9 as RDM, use DIA to pull the mob to fight.
- Collect crystals, and don't throw away those beatmen seals eventhough you may not know what the hell it does yet.
- Once you hit lv9, go to Konschet highland, far west of the map and you can solo worms there for real easy exp., you can hit lv13 pretty easily there while seeking for PT
- 1st Rule of FFXI: Valk. Dunes = teh suck.
- 2nd Rule of FFXI: All mithras are men, unless proven otherwise so don't start fabbing just yet.
- 3rd Rule of FFXI: You may have gotten away with it in dunes for a few lv, RDMs do NOT melee in PTs so buy your wand. (except extremely rare occasions)
- Once you hit lv15, you could either go to The Maze of Shakrami and solo there or go to Kororoka Tunnel and hope you'll get invited there
- get lv18, then get your sub job quest done. The ones in Valk. Dunes' much easier than ones in Windy's area. (who wants to touch Dhamel's saliva eh?)
- lv your sub job, i reccomend BLM at first since it's easier than WHM and RDM's main job is to enfeeble anyway and BLM's awesome for that. However, you should level both WHM and BLM for RDM's sub depends which sub the PT needs.
- Make sure you get Dispel
- Make sure you get Refresh at lv41 <-- you are now officially a refresh whore. Make sure your take good cure of your refresh macro's key cuz you'll be abusing it alot.
- Refresh, dispel, refresh, dispel, refresh, occasional enfeeble, refresh, dispel, haste the NIN, refresh, dispel
- Do your AF1 and throw that sword away as soon as you get it
- Do your other AFs, get lv60s, learned that you're not even close to reaching the beginning stage of this game yet.
- Go get your rank 6
- Get 70, go fight Maat, and NO he's not THAT hard like people said. 2 sets of gears one for sleeping him and one for nuking with Aero
- Get 75, hopefully you got your sky and stuff.
- Join an HNM LS, participate in pointless dramas
- Learn that this game was much more fun pre-endgame
- Learn that friends you've made along the way meant nothing in endgame cuz most likely they will rip you off at somepoint, or log onto your account and jack your shit.
- Learn that SE doesn't give a shit
- Learn that it's too late to quit this game and you're hooked
- Learned that you spend 8 years of your life in FFXI, realized your wife and kid still hasn't came back from the store and that was 4 years ago (with all her belongings).

Fun?yes.

Fun?yes.

Thanks very much for that. I've got nothing much planned for the next week so I reckon I'm going to vegetate and get stuck into this.
Out of interest, is it worth levelling ALL jobs to level 15 before starting the game proper, or at the very least RDM BLM WHM ??

Also, Macros. Are the default macros of any use or should they just be overwritten with more useful things ??

And, I bumped into another kind soul tonight who was very helpful. Many thanks, Akoga.

^^

I gotta say, as a newb to this game, you have amazing forum skills.
Impressive bumping method, everyting else I left unsaid.
Here is your answer from Icy's view. ( w)

- Choose a main job to level to 75 as your primary focus.
But at the same time, level as many jobs as you want, if your patience can afford it.
Different jobs teaches you different things, you gain more perspective about this game from knowing how different job works and actually played them.

- No, default macro are almost useless. Get rid of them after you memerize how each of them work, so u will be able to type them up one in a blue moon ( IE: Nominate )

Why thank you :blush I'm just trying to not be a totally irritating newb. It's not easy though biggrin.gif
Thanks for the help, but I was wondering you knew of a site or something with lists of popular macros. I've read up a bit but I'm not sure what all I should be making into top 20 macros yet.

and Derock, I found it by accident when my fat sausage fingers pressed down at the same time as right in macro edit. :wink

Well, I've managed to get myself up to level 12, and I've made about 12,000g from crystals today so it's not been too bad...

still not sure about these macros though... or joining a PT. I'll end up making a tool of myself :con
