High level blacksmithing tips and tricks?

I got bored of crafting a while back and was looking to get back into it. So i parused the item lists, and found the costs of stuff/how much i can sell them for and realised that i really need to get smithing up higher than what i left it as to make any kind of decent living off it at all.

Looking back on the levels i had gained, the hard way, i noticed many things. Little tips and tricks which wouldve made my leveling experience much less costly in terms of gill per level. And was glad to share them with others coming up the ranks. But now i find myself in a poor situation... currently i am:

85+2 smithing, 60 cloth, 60 alchemy, 60 leather, 54 gold, 48 wood, and lol8 bone

My plan of attack is adaman ingots (3 adaman ore recipy), adaman ingots (6 nugget recipy), jadgna's, and colosal axes. And i am saving all my ingots so that i am not level 90 or 91 and have no adaman ingots to level further.

My main problem is that these items are very rare to gather through any other means than camping the AH. Its actualy much faster to go helming for other materials than to helm for these particular things. And sitting around waiting on this stuff to surface on AH has become very hard. I am pretty lucky to find 4-5 on the AH per day before others snatch them up. Mostly i find 1-2 adaman nuggets and 1-2 adaman ores per day...

While researching the prices on other recipies i came across a situation where most things are crafted at a loss, and i dont really want to make 15 items and try to resell them on the AH. Because, It is occupied full time with selling stuff to fund the aquisition of more ores. I cant wait 3-4 days to sell a silly club to someone on the AH while leveling. Sure once i switch from leveling towards making a profit that will become a different story. But not now.

While leveling i found that one item in particular sells to NPC for 11k and it costs me about 14k to make. The only thing is that the primary ingredient is in very short supply.

I was wondering if anyone else has stumbled on some items 86-92ish that will sell to NPC at a break even/slight loss type of a deal.

Normaly, i wouldnt post on KI about something like this... as some people are bound to tell me to just suck it up. But 1 level per 2 weeks is getting very old very fast. And i have no idea where to look for information on how much items sell to NPC for.

If you prefer to keep this type of stuff some what secret, just PM me. otherwise im going to have to waste a lot of gill/time on items to see what an NPC will take for them. This is what i am trying to avoid with this post.

Thank you in advance

From what i've seen myself, Colossal Axes give horrid skill ups. I'm right around your level and haven't gotten a single skill up from them. As far as other items to skill from, i don't think there are many big secrets. I usually just save up a large sum of money, and spend it all on the main items (Darksteel Armor/Celatas,etc.) as Jadanga-1s seem to be in horribly short supply on Caitsith. The expensive items take a while to sell, but they do sell eventually, atleast for an even-break or profit on my server. Expect the lvling to be slow from here on out no matter what you do.

Well crafting has really suffered over the past few years. SE in their quest to slow RMT have made so much rare/ex equip that is hands down better than crafted equip. There are tons of high level crafters now. So materials are hard to come by and NQ's often lose you lots of money. That being said you can still make good money at any craft. I would suggest you take atleast 2 mules to jueno. That way you can put up 21 items instead of 7. When making money items only craft and 3's and don't put all 3 on the AH at the same time. And most importantly, ask you friends to help you buy the materials you need. If you get 4 or 5 friends buying adaman ore for you whenever they see it on AH it helps. Good luck !

OH P.S. finish Gold and Wood you need them in the 90's. Bone is useless.

:/ i was kind of hoping that the problem would be making gil... not waiting on materials to surface. The whole waiting on materials thing really blows lmao.

As for the gigant axe thing, i was getting great skillups on those. but im aproaching the level cap on them so its one less synth that will be available for me to skill on. Oddly enough the best synth i had, as it would resell to the NPC's for so much.

I mean dont get me wrong, saving all these adaman ingots is great. And i am sure ill be thankful for doing it once i am level 90. But getting so few a day really sucks... because its my primary synth to level on at the moment.

I have been at this for almost a month now and only have 2.8 levels to show for it. The other recipies sell for too little to be anywhere close to feasible as a leveling item. Not to mention the quantity id have to sell of them... i wouldnt be able to just horde that many items like i am doing with the adaman ingots and wait for them to sell. This leaves me with selling to NPC's and making up the differance with farming faster selling items while hording the adaman ingots.

It would be great to hear from people at what they did during this level range so i can get a few new ideas in my head.

Do Colossal axe till you cap at 88. Adaman Ingots till 90. Gully/Misericorde till 92 (gully cap 91). After that there is a few items you can do. It really depends on your server. Cursed Sollerets and other items. But I'm gonna warn you skill ups are few and far between in the 90's. Ive been going hardcore for about 2 months now and got around 2 levels of skill. 97.5 atm
