I also pretty much go with the MDB/-%Damage taken sets when I'm on PLD/NIN. The only time I go for resist gear is when I'm doing NIN/DRK.
I take just enough damage to be able to self cure for more hate and our Healers don't have any issues running out of MP due to the excess damage.
NIN/DRK has no self curing so taking as little damage as possible is boss.

To me anyway spending gil/losing 10-15 inventory spots for the once every 3 months gilsellers let us kill Tia isn't really worth it. J dragon is lol with or without resist setups. Ouryu we manaburn so no need, and ToAU mobs are a joke. I understand its benefit but I usually go with MDB or -Mdamage%.

added bastokan harness to the fire gear, i feel it's important to note that with the rest of the gear and bastokan harness instead of assault body you can still manage to get 330 fire resistance after buffs which is more than enough to laugh at tiamat/wyrm/cerb/anything else that wants to use fire attacks.
i listed that because not getting assault breastplate cuts fire set price by 5 mil on my server
still can't find a way around it for ice though

Capped barspell merits is +10mdb (group1 WHM category, but group1 has so many other goodies for whm) if you want to pump it even higher.

Here's some food for thought:
Something for Earth (Click Me)
Black Halo = crap so why not open the quest and use the club for something useful. Oh, only reason I thought of this is because you can still use shield. Probably nothing considering it's only used in the air, but something I thought about.

I actually use that club in my Set-up for Ouryu, works very nicely, along with Numinous Shield +1 thats 25, for these 2 slots, for a total of 160. id say im confortable with that number, avg. 20-25 dmg in the air with Shining Ruby, Barearth, Barpetra and Earth Carol on (Along with ShellraV lvl3 and max possible Bar+ for a whm), and i resist every Break/Breakga as well with it. Need to test that set up on Jailer of Faith now ^^;, havent had the chance to fight him since i gathered that amount of Earth resist.
main: Club of Trials (10)
sub: Numinous Shield +1 (15)
range: Lamian Kaman
head: Green Ribbon +1 (10)
neck: Jeweled Collar (10)
ear1: Topaz Earring (10)
ear2: Topaz Earring (10)
body: Assault Breastplate (15)
hands: Sand Gloves (11)
ring1: Maldust Ring (10)
ring2: Shadow Ring
back: Gaia Mantle +1 (12)
waist: Wind Belt (20)
legs: Beak Trousers +1 (7)
feet: Crimson Greaves (20)
ninja edit: i tweaked my set-up a bit. and actually went to camp nussknacker again, found a streak of 6 days with long lasting double weather: 1/2 ^^ cant wait to fight ouryu again!

good setup, if you get nussnacker hands, use a topaz ring and drop the ethereal for a second topaz earring you should push ouryu into 4-8 damage attacks (thus ethereal doesn't work anyways) you just gotta trust the setup and your support to go all out, having those 2 utility pieces of shadow ring and ethereal could actualy get you taking MORE damage. i don't use my aegis for any of my resist setups because if i push the resist high enough it truly is just wtfwinsauce
as for JoF i wouldn't recommend using a earth set there, just use crimson cuisses and laugh at him.

Aye, i just got lazy and havent made the 2nd topaz, but that itll come, as for Sand gloves, well i went to camp him a few times, but this is just /wrist material, so im done.
i just <3 my Shadow ring, i gotta say bringing dmg in the single digit is impressive, but its all about being comfortable with the dmg u take, and when i put Valor coat on, the dmg i take is perfect to get a good MP return.
Highlulu :as for JoF i wouldn't recommend using a earth set there, just use crimson cuisses and laugh at him.
aye, fought it a bunch of times, easy to outrun, but theres always those occasional Breakga that gets u, but in all honesty this is pure curiosity =)
Great thread btw Highlulu, keep up the good work

yeah those breakga's can get annoying i ussually just force a whm to sit out of ally for stona. as for the curiosity part...
i havn't tested this but, ouryu is level 85 as is JoF, JoF has higher int and magic attack but i doubt this will play a huge roll in resist rates, prolly just turn the 3-4's into 8-9's.
as for the thread you bet i'll keep up the good work ^^.

for the straight magic reduction build (non-aegis) I think you should add Palmerin's shield. -2% DMG taken, so it would reduce 2% of magic damage. Nothing else in this slot really worthwhile. If your a cheap person or a little short on cash this helps bring you too the Magic reduction cap without having all the HQ gear.
