Recently my ls started doing the ks99 wyrm and i thought that my proto-ultima CB set ( http://ffxigear.com/?ref=3592 ) would work nicely when it was flying (since its attacks while flying are considered magical). That setup usually reduces CB greatly, with me taking a minimum of about 600 to a max of 1k dmg. But while fighting the wyrm i felt i was taking too much dmg while it was in the air (usually 140-170 per hit).

We've won a couple of times but I feel it would be alot better if i just us a fire resistance set. This is what I have built using this guide http://ffxigear.com/?ref=3609. I dont have crimson legs so my only other option(unless theres another option i dont know about) is the IR hose and im using the IR hands instead of the Tmits because combined with the hose i get the +5 fire resist anyway and the extra hp/enmity/mdb.

Ive talked with the whm that usually atteneds the ks99 and he told me his barfira gives +106 and from the brd i get another +50 which totals about +283 fire resistance. I was wondering if that would be enough to see a diffrence from 140-170 per hit while its flying, atleast enough to merit me carrying around/muling this gear every time we do a ks99.

283 should be plenty for the KS99 Wyrm, that would probably put you at or above the highest resist rate and you could expect average hits to do in the 30-ish range.

Also if you're looking for fire resistant legs and don't have Crimson only thing you can obtain that gives fire res is Dino/Raptor Trousers
