My friend got WoW and says that it is way better than FFXI. But I can't take his word for it because he hasn't ever even played FFXI, He has only seen me play it on a rare occasion. So, which one is better? FFXI or WoW?

I have played both and found that WoW was more fun for me, but FFXI's fun lasts way longer.

I've played both games. Though I'm only midlevel on WoW, I must say it is much more fun than FFXI was, and the PvP is so much better.

i played FF for a year, then quit, went to WoW at launch, played for about.... oh 4-5 months, hit the cap after 1, then quit, and came back to FF.

WoW's character system is more customizable than FF, also, for the most part its alot easier and has more depth in just day-to-day gameplay (FF's story and missions though far surpass anything story related in wow)

Leveling in wow from quests and random grinding is fun and "exciting" for the first 20-30 levels, after that it drags, however you don't get stuck waitng for groups for hours/days/weeks. I never really got the sense of community and teamwork that i get from leveling in FF.

Battles take about 1 min or less solo on anything outside of an instance, even against xp mobs (and thats solo). even instances are much quicker paced, which i guess could be a personal preference in playstyle. Nothing ever really seems epic, except maybe 40 man battles, which i got the impression were so cookie-cuttter strategy wise that any half competant guild with a vent channel could do it.

The people in WoW were generally dirt stupid. Take the most annoying, immature, noobish, idiot you've seen in FF, and theres about 12 of em in each major area of wow, constantly talking in general chat.

And lasty, from what i've heard from friends that still play, EVERYTHING in wow has become a grind. which isnt to say that FF is all that different. SE just puts in timers so that you cant spend all day grinding the same end game stuff.

I have played WoW, that game is soooo Weak compared to FFXI. Graphics, battle system, and everything you may think of. I think the reason why people like WoW more, is because it's less complex, and you can figure out everything very quickly. FFXI takes awhile because you won't really experience the really fun stuff until you get higher, and it takes longer to get higher level. That's really the problem with FFXI. WoW you can gain levels fast and get to the higher more fun parts faster, but just lookng at WoW will make Ray Charles turn over in his grave.

WoW Is more a Solo game, take it easy FFXI requires smarts and patients (Only wanted to play WoW cause South park made it look funny)

WoW is fun. But FFXI is more in-depth I'd say, much more to do. Everything is harder in FFXI, and takes more time. WoW is more casual, but equally addicting. WoW can get boring faster because it's more repetitive.

Pretty much hit the nail on the head, I been playing WoW recently, taking a break from FFXI, and all I can say is that I miss my DRK. :/ Like someone else said, nothing truly feels epic, and there is absolutely no community. (I'm new to my guild, I usually get crickets when I say anything, including a simple "Could someone check X Item on AH for me?" Yeah, right after I said that someone said they got some shiny new item, and my question was thoroughly ignored). WoW players are dumb as a post, and finding moments of someone not spouting drivvel about Bob Barker, Chuck Norris or Vin Diesel are few and far between. Fortunately the saving grace of my guild is there is a really cool Aussie teacher in there who one can have fun conversations with.

On the plus side, PVP is great, BG (Battlegrounds) are really fun, and the only reason I level really is to get to the highest level for that ranking BG(10-19, 20-29 etc, for those who don't know). That's really about all that holds my attention though, after playing FFXI, the game is just plain well... easy. You can skill your craft to cap in 1-2 days, if you just wait to get to 70 and binge enough G into it, I'm currently level 41 and have about 3days play time? And that is slow... I also find it funny how easy it is to level in that game but people think it's hardcore to have two level 70s.

Aaaanyways, WoW is for the casual player, it is set up that way, marketed that way, played that way. FFXI on the other hand, you get back what you put in to it. I'm sure everyone knows how good it feels to meet their goals set in game, from your first 10k, and your SJ, to your Adaberk or O-hat much later. WoW just simply doesn't have the same effect, atleast for me, which is why I prefer FFXI.

o also,, a log on the ground in quifam island.. you cant even walk over it..
you have to walk around it... what kind of shitty ass engine is that?? ffxi is way too old

wow character manuverability and gameplay is soo much better and faster..
and the pvp is the best i have ever seen in any mmo.

play wow!! only downside its easier to "beat the game"
i spent half the time on on my wow character to get top of the line tier2 and tier2.5 complete
and clear AQ40 (hardest instance in the game before i quit)

compared to my ffxi sam/rng which i spent double the time and have way less shit..

anyways the pvp is the funest part of wow.. ballista??? lolz ffxi pvp is a joke
