Fixed some broken pics, modified my opinion on certain items, added Black Tathlum to its respective setup. Like usual, if anything is lacking/missing, let me know trough a PM or post here.

Samurai Starter/End-game/Equipment Guide V1.8 (UPD 08/08/08 )

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This guide will continue to get bigger than it already is. I suggest you look at the index to see the info you need or use CTRL+F.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since the other guide was a little outdated, I’ve decided to work on a new one so that other people who want to level the job, upcoming 75 SAM or veteran players have an updated reference to. I’m going to cover most things that Kayoto’s Guide was covering such as: which equip for which sub-jobs, sea gorgets, equip for capped areas but I’m also going to bring in equip for 6-hit/haste setup as well.I’ll be adding other info like the role of samurai in end-game and the like. Even though it says End-game/Equipment, I'll be covering leveling from 1-75 as well as all AF quest.

Here’s a little index of what's on the guide and what's to come:

Now without further delay, here’s the guide:

1) Unlocking Samurai and AF Quests

- Unlocking Samurai

Samurai, unlike that starter jobs, is a Job that you will need to unlock by doing a quest called "Forge Your Destiny". To unlock it, you will need to have at least 1 Job at 30 and the one I recommend is /war for obvious reason. If Samurai is going to be your first job past 30, you will need help from a couple of higher levels to complete this quest as it's impossible for a lvl 30 job, whatever it is, to solo that quest. I'm going to give you an accurate walktrough on how to unlock the quest. Here goes:

- First, you will need to head to Norg trough the Sea Serpent Grotto. If you are going there alone, be sure to bring at least 2 or 3 Silent Oils along.Once you enter the Grotto, always stick to the right wall. You will end up in front of a door. Open it and stick to the right wall again until you zone in Norg.

- Once in Norg, go inside the Dojo and until the end of the hallway.Once there, talk to Jaucribaix. You will enter a cutscene. In that cutscene, you will learn that you need to bring him back 2 items, a Bomb Steel and a Sacred Branch.

- After this cutscene, go down the stairs and talk to Aeka who will give you the Oriental Steel which is required to get the Bomb Steel. Next, go Ranemau at (I-7) to get the Sacred Sprig which is required to obtain the Sacred Branch. Before leaving, go buy a Hatchet as it is required as well for the Sacred Branch.

- When you and your friends are ready, head to (D-8 ) in The Konschtat Highlands. Trade the Oriental Steel to the ???. A bomb monster called Forget will appear. Kill it then get the Bomb Steel.

- Your next target is in The Sanctuary of Zitah. Once you are in Zitah, head to (K-10). Once there, follow the pathway to (L-9) which lead to a giant tree. Once you are ready, trade the Hatchet to the ???. It will make a monser called Guardiant Treant pop. Kill him. After he is death, trade the Sacred Sprig to the ??? to receive the Sacred Branch.

- Once you have both items, return to Norg and go trade both items to Jaucrubaix. He will tell you that he will need 3 days which is 3 hours in real life time to make your Mumeito.

- After those 3 hours, talk to him again, you will have a cutscene with Gilgamesh. After that cutscene, you will receive your Mumeito and the ability to switch to the Samurai job.

Congratulation, you are now one of us. The road to reach 75 as samurai is not easy but we this guide and the people on this forum will try to help as best as they can.

2) Leveling Samurai

This section will be covering mostly what sub to use at which level range, gear that can be obtained and I'm going to list it for each level (I'll be taking Dragonhope's example in the Dragoon forum for this so credit's goes to him/her for a part of the template I'll be using). To be updated soon enough (slowly but surely :x )

For each level range, I'll mention Recommended Subjob, Leveling and Gear. For the gear part, I'll be bolding the word with different color depending on w/e it's good ([blue]Blue[/blue]), excellent ([orange]Orange[/orange]), the best possible to use for that slot ([red]Red[/red]).

- From 1 -> 10

Recommended Subjob: /mnk or /whm with Selbina Milk sine it helps dimishish resting time by a lot.

Leveling: For these level, you will be mainly soloing (though duoing with a friend works as well). Strategy is pretty much the same for 1 to 10: Target EP -> EM while refreshing Milk whenever it runs out.

Equipment:

Level 1:

- [blue]Bronze Set (+1), Various set (Vagabond, Fisherman, Chocobo,[/blue]: Use it if you want. Not needed at all.
- The [red]Moggle Belts (Bronze, Silver, Gold) [/red](if you have them, not expecting people to have them, don't have them myself lol D:)
- [red]Cassie Earring[/red]: If you have it, use it but if you don't (which is to be expected, don't bother with it)
- [red]San D'Orian Ring, Bastokan Ring[/red], [blue]Copper Ring[/blue] [red](+1)[/red]: Only avilable rings for quite awhile. Not much but worth it.

Level 4:

- [red]Rabbit Mantle (+1)[/red]: Nothing else available.

Level 5:

- [red]Longbow (+1)[/red]: If you want to cap your archery as well, grab a bow and some arrows and got at it. Grab it anyway as you'll probably need it to pull later on.

Level 7:

- [blue]Leather Set[/blue]: Not really needed unless you don't want to start looking like a samurai next level :x

- [red]Bounding Boots[/red]: These are quite nice at this level. Go grab them champ !

- [blue]Wing Pendant, Justice Badge[/blue]: Either are fine, none of them makes a difference enough to say which is best.

- [red]Brass Ring (+1)[/red]: If you are from Windurst, get two of these but if you are from San D'Oria or Bastok, get one only to combine with your nation ring.

Level 8:

- [orange]Tachi[/orange] [red](+1)[/red]: No need to explain why. New weapon time! Be sure to have it with you for when you level.

- [orange]Hachimaki/Kenpogi/Tekko/Sitabaki/Kyahan[/orange] [red](+1)[/red]: Now you can start looking like a samurai. Go grab it.

Level 10:

- [red]Katamaya Ichimonji[/red]: Totally worth the trip to Bastok to get this. Get on a higher level job and come teach that sheep a lesson.

- [blue]Scale Mail (+1)/ Scale Cuisses (+1)[/blue]: Get them if you want. Personnal opinion I'd stick with the sam looking set ( Look > meaningless amount of def :x).

- [red]Royal Footman's Gloves[/red]: Get them. It's only +3 att but more att is never bad (for now).

- [red]Royal Footman's Bandana[/red]: +1 Agi with good def is the best you can get so far.

- [red]Multiple ring[/red]: If you have a 75 job and are at Sergant Rank in Assault, you might consider getting one.

-[blue]Optical Earring[/blue]: For a low level item, it's decent. You might want to get it for a few level.

That's it for now. Stay tuned for more!

3 ) Sub-Jobs’ choice of equipment (@ lvl75)

Samurai benefits from a lot of sub jobs such as /war,/thf,/nin and /rng. Each of them have their own uses and even if most of them use a lot of the same gear, there is some situation which requires samurais to have different gears to be able to handle the situation accordingly. I’ll try to cover them in-depth as much as I can.

*Please note that the order in which I wrote the equipment isn't Best -> Worst. It just happened I wrote it in that order because that is that wink.gif

Warrior: SAM/WAR is generally the most love sub all round, thanks to JAs and JT like Berserk and Double Attack. It will most likely be the sub you will be required to come as to most camp while you are going to exp from 1-75. What’s even great with /war now is the addition of Seigan. Now samurai can be even better SATA partner for Thieves and can even tank a little if tank loses hate and mob goes toward the mages. /war main dmg wise is to have an optimal DoT while doing nice WS damage as well. Here’s aa detailed list for each setup use as /war:

*****************************************************************************************
6-Hit Tutorial

The main goal of a 6-hit is to acquire, like the name says, 100% TP in 6-hit. You need +46 Store TP for a 6-hit setup (+21 from equip/merits) if you are using a 450 delay weapon, which is Hagun’s case.

Just a little math to show you how it works;

1st, Hagun is a 450 delay weapon and since TP adjustment update, TP calculation for each hit works this way for this delay:

5.0 + [(Delay - 180) * 6.5] / 270, so Hagun’s TP calculation will be this way:

5.0+[(450-180)*6.5)/270 which equals 11.5 TP per successful hit.

So like I said, you will need +46 Store TP total to achieve 6-hit.Let’s see why:

Store TP works this way: Base TP (Or TP/Hit if you prefrer)* (1 + StoreTP)

Base TP: We said that we get 11.5 TP/Hit with each hit with 0 Store TP so the number for Base TP is 11.5

Store TP: Let’s say you have + 46 Store TP right now just for the formula .

11.5* (1 + .46) which equals : 16.79 .

Now do 16.79*6 and it gives you 100.74% TP for a 6-hit setup.

*****************************************************************************************

*Note: I put there all the Store TP+ equips that you can use @ 75 to get a 6-hit setup. I didn’t tell which slot is the best to use for which equip. Go with whatever you feel like going but at least make sure you have +46 Store TP. I’m also taking into consideration that you have maxed out Store TP merits as well. But if you don’t have Store TP + merited at max, you will need +21 Store TP from gear only to attain a 6-hit setup.

Would resemble this:
Hachiman Kote +1 (Store TP+9)
Hachiman Sune-Ate +1 (Store TP+6)
Rajas Ring (Store TP+5)
Brutal Earring or Chivalrous Chain (Store TP+1 on each)
=21 (22 if using both Earring and Chain)

P.S:You will either need to use H.Kote (+1)/Fuma or D.Gloves/H.Sune-Ate(Usukane Sune-Ate). Else you won’t have enough Store TP+ for a 6-hit/haste setup.

Quoted from Kayoto’s Guide

Note: It is now thought that YGK are elemental ws and no longer stack with SA. I would need confirmation on this before I modify this section.

Thief: SAM/THF is an extremely effective sub job for HNM use. Since SA(TA)+WS guarantees a single hit, SAM/THF is incredibly useful for hate control, and just overall damage on the vast majority of HNMs. SAM/THF, like SAM/WAR, requires (at least) two sets of equipment: one for regularly attacking / building TP, and a WS set-up. I must let it be noted in this guide that, contrary to my previous statements in this section, STR+ is not everything for WS damage. It's very important, though, but Attack+ is important too. STR is not the be-all end-all of WS damage.

When you are meleeing, you can just any of the equipment setup mentioned above. I’m just going to write the equipment needed for SATA+WS.

Equipment for SATA + WS

Main: Onimaru for 300% TP WS
Hagun for everything after that.

Ranged: Olibanum/Attar Satchet (Elv. Only)Balm/Millefleurs Sachet(For WS and Hume. only) Arco De Velocidad, Arco de Velocidad,Tiphia Sting( For non-elvaan/Arco owner

Feet: Rutter Sabatons, RSE boots with STR+3 or higher, Hachiman Sune-Ate(+1)

Ranger: Since the addition of Soboro Sukehiro, /rng popularity past 60 for exp has rose. Some people still use it even @ 75 because it is still really good for some exp camp like Caedarva Mire or even on the Puks in the Thickets. /rng is still “viable” for some kited but on most kited mobs, you are going to go /thf anyway.

Ninja: Really the main goal of /nin is to absorb via Utsusemi AoE that are really damageable. Though the only situation where I use /nin is at King Vinegaroon. There is no need to make an equipment setup for /nin since you are probably going to be meleeing like /war so just use the same equip.

5) Samurai and Sea

-Equipment from Sea:

- Sea Gorgets

If you want to really put some decked out gear on your samurai, one of your main goal will be getting sea as soon as possible. Once you have reached sea, there are a couple pieces of gear that will become accessible to you. Your main goal after getting sea will be to focus on finishing it and obtain your Rajas Ring.

After that, the first pieces of gear I think personnaly that you should get are the gorgets for the reason that they are the pieces where you will notice a good difference and are also the easier though time consuming to get.You can solo every organs if you have /nin or even easier if you have mnk/nin or nin main leveled. The only help you will really need are for the Yovra (UFO) organs but most of the time, alot of people needs them so it's not that hard to gather people to kill a couple UFO for them.

First though, you will need to start the quest called In the name of science as a pre-requisite first. This is pretty simple though. Here is a step-by-step walktrough on how the quest will go:

- Talk to Yurim in Tavnazian Safehold. She is located at (J-8 )

- She will talk a little then let you choose which item you want to acquire as a reward.

- You will need to trade the required starter items, either a silver earring, gorget or silver obi with the appropriate colored chip to go with it.

- Go farm the required organs for the selected item.

- Once all the organs have been acquired, go back to Yurim and trade her all the organs at once to obtain your reward.

Hopefully, that quest is repeatable so you can get as many gorgets as you want.

Here is the list of all the gorgets and how they affect all samurai weapon skills and which items are going to be required for each:

Flame Gorget: Tachi: Kagero Tachi: Kasha.

Soil Gorget: Tachi: Enpi and Tachi: Jinpu.

Aqua Gorget: Tachi: Koki, Tachi: Gekko and Sidewinder.

Breeze Gorget: Tachi: Jinpu, Tachi: Yukikaze, Tachi: Kaiten and Sidewinder.

Snow Gorget: Tachi: Hobaku, Tachi: Yukikaze and Tachi: Gekko.

Thunder Gorget: Tachi: Goten and Tachi: Koki.

Light Gorget: Tachi: Enpi, Tachi: Goten, Tachi: Kasha and Sidewinder.

Shadow Gorget: Tachi: Kasha.

You will want to get 2 gorgets which are Snow Gorget which covers both Yuki and Gekko and Flame Gorget which cover Kasha. If you are going to use /rng as well, I recommend getting the Breeze Gorget. I mean you could switch the Flame Gorget for the Light Gorget if samurai is going to be your only job @ 75 but most samurai I know have nin leveled as well ( so did I ) so in my opinion Breeze is the best but you are free to get which ever you want since the results will be the same.

*Note: I only put Sidewinder for archery ws because I doubt, that unless you have Namas Arrow available, that you are going to use anything else /rng.

Flame Gorget: (10 Phuabo’s Organ, 5 Xzomit’s Organ, 1 Yovra’s Organ + 1 Red Chip and a Gorget)

Soil Gorget: ( 10 Xzomit’s Organ, 5 Aern’s Organ, 1 Yovra’s Organ + 1 Yellow Chip and a Gorget)

Aqua Gorget: (10 Aern’s Organ, 5 Hpemde’s Organ, 1 Yovra’s Organ + 1 Blue Chip and a Gorget)

Breeze Gorget: (10 Phuabo’s Organ, 5 Hpemde’s Organ, 1 Yovra’s Organ + 1 Green Chip and a Gorget)

Thunder Gorget: (10 Xzomit’s Organ, 5 Hpemde’s Organ, 1 Yovra’s Organ + 1 Purple Chip and a Gorget)

Snow Gorget: ( 10 Phuabo’s Organ, 5 Aern’s organ, 1 Yovra’s Organ + 1 Clear Chip and a Gorget)

Light Gorget: ( 3 Phuabo’s Organ, 7 Aern’s Organ, 3 Hpemde’s Organ, 2 Yovra’s Organ + 1 White Chip and a Gorget)

Shadow Gorget: ( 10 Phuabo’s Organ, 3 Aern’s Ogans, 7 Hpemde’s Organ, 2 Yovra’s Organ + 1 Black Chip and a Gorget)

Now concerning the Torque, I think every sams, sea access or no, knows the existence of the Justice Torque. That piece is the best possible in the neck slot concerning TP Gain hands down. The only thing that sucks though is to get your hands on it. It drops from a second tier Jailer known as Jailer of Justice. Drop rate is shit, (our LS is 0/2 for it now and counting ; ; ) so the best way to obtain one
is to farm sea A LOT and pray you get lucky on Justice and on the lot.

- AF+1 and Limbus Equipment

Having sea means also that you have access to Limbus (In which I won’t enter details. If you want more info on Limbus, KI as some nice topics for it around, just search them.) where you will be able to upgrade your AF into AF+1.

To get your AF into the +1 version, you will need to gather 2 items rare/ex, one that is in Temenos called Scarlet Odoshi and the other one in Apollyon called Kurogane along with a certain number of Ancient Beastcoins that drops in Limbus. Also, you will need to trade a craftable item that is different for each piece plus the piece of AF in question that you will want to upgrade. Please note that when you trade the items to Sagheera, you will have to wait until the next conquest update to receive your AF +1.Here is the list of Myochin +1 Set and details about it:

Myochin Kabuto +1:

Trade 15 Ancient Beastcoins, a Gold Sheet, the Sheet of Kurogane, the Scarlet Odoshi along with the Myochin Kabuto to Sagheera in Port Jeuno.

Myochin Domaru +1:

Trade 25 Ancient Beastcoins, an Iyo Scale, the Sheet of Kurogane, the Scarlet Odoshi along with the Myochin Domaru to Sagheera in Port Jeuno.

Myochin Kote +1:

Trade 20 Ancient Beastcoins, a Laminated Buffalo Leather , the Sheet of Kurogane, the Scarlet Odoshi along with the Myochin Kote to Sagheera in Port Jeuno.

Myochin Haidate +1:

Trade 30 Ancient Beastcoins, a Laminated Buffalo Leather , the Sheet of Kurogane, the Scarlet Odoshi along with the Myochin Kote to Sagheera in Port Jeuno.

Myochin Sune-Ate +1:

Trade 20 Ancient Beastcoins, a Laminated Buffalo Leather , the Sheet of Kurogane, the Scarlet Odoshi along with the Myochin Kote to Sagheera in Port Jeuno.

Those are the pieces of AF+1 available for Samurai. In my opinion, none of them are must have because they are easily replaceable but that depends on your play style what your LS does for example, you know you won’t have D.Legs for awhile, then Myochin Haidate +1 are a good replacement for them.If you have a white box addiction, you can trade your Wyvern Helm for a Kabuto +1 as well.

There are also other items outside the AF+1 that are available for people with Ancient Beastcoins. For those items, you just need to trade the correct amount of currency for it and you immediatly get it..

Brutal Earring:

Trade 75 Ancient Beastcoins to Sagheera.

That earring is the best without question partner to your Bushinomimi in the earring slot. Its Store TP +1 on it can be useful for 6-hit setup depending on the rest of your gear and it gives 5% more Double Attack AND gives Double Attack as a JA even if you aren’t /war. Go get one of those as soon as you start doing Limbus (or if you are rich and buy 75 coins 1 shot).

Sadly, the other items available aren’t really the most useful for Samurais so I just covered the Brutal Earring. You can search on KI if you want info for the rest.

6) Samurai in Sky

For most samurais, Sky access isn’t a concern now. But for people who are levelling sam as their first job, sky access will become a priority sooner or later. Most samurais already know their way trough sky and how to fight god,etc so that’s why this guide will mainly be for upcoming samurais that are going to have sky access in the future.

-Equipment from Sky:

Sky is home to a wide variety of gear accessible to sam, some pieces being the best for their respective slots for most situations. Most gear isn’t that hard to get but you still gotta work for it. The main pieces that you are going to aim for sam are: Kirin’s Osode, D.Body and Legs, Byakko’s Haidate, Seiryu’s Kote for sam/rng and Ushikirimaru (which is just a collection GKT in my opinion). I’m mainly going to cover those first and maybe I will add the rest in the future sometime.

Kirin’s Osode:

It isn’t that hard to get depending on your LS rules. Most linkshell goes by attendance anyway concerning sky gear so just show up and keeping working and you’ll get one of those someday. One of the best WS body slot.

Dryadic Abjuration Body (required for Shura Togi(+1):

This item allows you to uncurse the Cursed Togi(-1) thus giving you the Shura Togi(+1). Shura Togi(+1) is a viable replacement but even an NQ Haubergeon is better than an HQ Togi so don't focus on that with Haubergeon(+1).

Dryadic Abjuration Legs (required for Shura Haidate(+1):

This item allows you to uncurse the Cursed Haidate(-1) thus giving you the Shura Haidate(+1). Shura Haidate(+1) are one of the best leg pieces for samurai because of it’s nice str/acc + on them. Due to SE changes on Ullikumi pops, Samurai now have a better access to these. Can now be obtain trough Einherjar (need confirmation on this).

Byakko’s Haidate:

This is in my opinion the best pants hand down for Samurai. The Haste + is really nice for Haste setup and the +15 Dex helps on Acc and Critical Hits. There are 2 bad about them though: 1) They are HIGHLY sought after by other job like nin, mnk, war and probability are that you will not get them before any of those jobs. The only advice I can give you is work hard and pray ;x

Seiryu’s Kote:
Posted Image

Those are not to hard to come by and are the best you can get for sam/rng. Some nin and rngs will probably want a pair as well but that’s about it for the competition on those.

Ushikirimaru:
Posted Image

In my opinion, this is just a collection GKT because Onimaru is cheaper/easier to obtain and Hagun easily outparses this.

- Samurai vs. Gods

The main role as Samurai vs Gods is mainly to stabilize the hate by sata'ing each tank. Here, I'm going to tell you mainly how each god works.

- Suzaku

2 Hour: Chainspell

Suzaku is a Giant Bird type RDM so he has Fast Cast and he's fire based. He will mainly cast Fire IV, Firaga III and Flare. After your tanks are set, you and your sc partner get behind a tank and sata+ws. ~ 50%, he will use Chainspell and on the contraru of normal mob with Chainspell that cast Bio,Dia and crappy shit, Suzaku actually makes it to use with his fire based spells. Your LS will either SB it or CS+Stun him. If they SB it, STOP MELEEING or you will break SB and they won't love you ;x After CS's over, just repeat the previous step until he his defeated.

- Byakko

2 Hour: Perfect Dodge

Byakko is a Tiger type THF Mob and he his Light Based so it means he has Triple Attack and high evasion and couple of white -ga's magic (
- Genbu

2 Hour: Invincible (lolSE)

Genbu is a Giant Turtle type PLD water based mob which means shitload of def combined with water spells(which aren't dangerous really). Genbu is the easiest of them all though. He is slow, easily kitable if blm gets hate and no real dangerous ability/spells. Here, you will mainly want to do a Darkness SC because Giant Turtle type (Genbu,Ada,Aspid) are weak to Ice and a little resistant to Thunder. Just sata+ws each tank with an SC partner for Darkness. On Invincible, just disengage and you can lol at SE for putting a useless 2 hour on a monster with shitload of def and that can give himself even more def without 2 hour. After Invincible is gone, just put the turtle out of his misery and finish him ;x

- Seiryu

2 Hour: Hundred Fists

Seiryu is a Wyvern Type MNK wind based mob. His defense is not all that great but he hits kinda hard. Same tactic as with the other gods, sata+ws each tank, sc Fragmentation here. Around ~50% HP left,he
will use his 2 hour. Usually people will SB it. When SB is called, STOP MELEEING, else SB will break resulting in Seiryu starting to rape a lot of your people. Once his 2 hour is finish, just reapeat sata+ws till he dies.

7) Samurai on the HNM Scene

First thing first, here is a little thing on the wyrm family, in which Fafnir,Nidhogg,Vrtra,Tiamat, Jormungand,Ouryuu and Bahamut are members of. They all have a couple of attacks in common: Absolute Terror which terrorizes your tank, leaving him unable to act, a Wing attack AoE that causes abnormal status(they all have a different one, will be covered later), Horrid Roar and the most dangerous move of all, Spike Flail which is a Huge AoE attack that causes HEAVY damage. Hopefully, they here is one condition for them to use that move. You must get hate from behind. The only exception to Spike Flail is Bahamut.

Some LS will want you to TA tanks and never let you SA. Some LS with awesome tanks, will let you SA but be careful with it's use. Whenever you SA a wyrm, I'd recommend logging your hate as soon as your done with SA+WS.

- Fafnir/Nidhogg

Fafnir:

Fafnir, the NQ version of Nidhogg is one oof the most sought after HNM in the whole game, mainly because he is the only one who can drop the Ridill, a warrior's wet dream sword as well as the Neptunal Head Abj, the Aegisjhalmer and the Hrotti, 2 items really good for Pld.On the challenge level, Fafnir really isn't hard, what's hard about him is to claim ;x If you get the claim though, here is what you as a sam should do.

Little preparation before the fight:

-You should go /war on Fafnir, /thf is a no go because of Spike Flail and tanks mostly don't have problem keeping hate so there is no need for TA.

-Bring Sushi as food since Fafnir has high evasion. You want to hit him constantly and have your ws land them on a 1:4 hit ration.

-Bring Eye Drops. Hurrican Wings inflict blind and most of the time, the bastard uses it before a SC so you will need to remove it. Sometimes mages will remove it from you but if they are busy and you need to SC, you are better off with them.

Fafnir as a breath attack called Dragon Breath which is deadly if you stand in the middle of his two feet. That's why the tank party usually go on the left foot and the rest of the alliance on the right one.If your LS never did or has low experience on Fafnir, they will probably sleep it before engaging so if he they do, don't attack yet. If they have relatively good experience, they will engage right away. That's where the action begin.

Fafnir has decent HP but can be brought down rather fast with SC+MB. Blm will burst with Thunder on him so you will want to do either a Fragmentation or Light skillchain.

The Skillchain you will probably do the most against him are:
- Tachi: Yukikaze >>> Tachi: Gekko >>> Fragmentation
- Tachi: Kasha <<>> Ground Strike >>> Light
- Tachi : Kasha <<>> Shark Bite >>> Light
- Guillotine >>> Tachi: Gekko >>> Fragmentation
- Tachi: Yukikaze >>> Sidewinder(Slug Shot) >>> Fragmentation

During the fight, there is a designate person that will call SC. I'm the one who do it in my LS so I'm going to show you an example when I call an SC:

/linkshell Darkwill >>> "Person I SC with name's"
/linkshell Tachi: Yukikaze >>> Tachi: Gekko >>> Fragmentation

Don't WS if you are not called, you will end screwing the SC and people won't love you for it. Sometime during the fight, there is a high probability that you might need to sleep Fafnir. You will be require to disengage. Sleeping Fafnir is mostly to let mages replanish their MP. Follow this pattern and Fafnir should go down quite easily.

You might get hate sometime due to repetitive WS. Just put Seigan + 3rd eye and you should be fine.

That's about it for Fafnir

Nidhogg:

Same strategy as Fafnir. Only thing diiferent is that Nidhogg has more HP and hurts a little more.

- Adamantoise/Aspidochelone
To come soon.

- Behemoth/King Behemoth:

- Behemoth:

No need for preparation on a day 1-3 Behemoth. That guy is really weak. Just kill him the way you usually kill a merit mob. Not harder than that.

- King Behemoth:

Now we are taking Behemoth to another step. That guy is actually a lot more powerful than his NQ version. He has access to the spell Meteor which is kinda deadly if it lands. You will need some little preparation for this fight.

Subjob: I recommend /war for claiming purposes as well as an overall DoT on him and WS damage on him. /thf would work as well but you will get hate really faster than on /war and your overall DoT will be reduce. He has poor eva anyway so if you are fully merited on GKT, there is nothing to worry about missing your ws.

Food: I usually go Att+ food on him since he has crappy eva and all. If you don'thave Gkt merits, you might want to consider Sushi to be sure your ws will land.

Items: Bring a Reraise Hairpin. Chances are that you will get hate somewhere in the fight and he might kill you if your not fast enough for Seigan + Third Eye. Even if you don't get hate, an unlucky Thunderwave + Meteor can be deadly so your mage will love you for that RR.

- Fight:

Despite his huge size, KB is really squishy so when he is in range, you can melee him. A lot of the time during the fight, you will have to run for him to damage him. Your main goal though will be to SC Fragmentation or Light when stops to cast Meteor. I made a little example at Fafnir's strat so I'll use the same for this one:

linkshell Darkwill >>> "Person I SC with name's"
/linkshell Tachi: Yukikaze >>> Tachi: Gekko >>> Fragmentation

The Skillchain you will probably do the most against him are the same as Fafhogg:
- Tachi: Yukikaze >>> Tachi: Gekko >>> Fragmentation
- Tachi: Kasha <<>> Ground Strike >>> Light
- Tachi : Kasha <<>> Shark Bite >>> Light
- Guillotine >>> Tachi: Gekko >>> Fragmentation
- Tachi: Yukikaze >>> Sidewinder(Slug Shot) >>> Fragmentation

After a couple of SC in the fight, you might get hate. If you get it, run away as far as you can. Last thing you want is a Meteor in your face ;x If KB runs after you after a Meteor, Seigan + Third Eye and hope that the PLD grabs back the hate. You might want to log your hate if you don't die from it. Just do /shutdown, wait 1 minute, then log back in.

After a while, KB will die and you will go back home with a New title and one more HNM fought on your list.

- Cerberus:

- Prepartion pre-fight:

Cerberus seems hard by looking at his appearance but he isn't really all that impressing. In fact, I'd say that he is easy as hell ;x . Here, you will be wanting to go /thf for SA+WS and TA+WS if you have Nin tank.Bring Att+ food as Cerberus as a really good def. He also has decent eva so you may want to switch 1 or 2 pieces of your setup to add-in a little acc.You may want to take Sanction with Regen bonus to help during the fight since Cerberus has Flame Spikes active mostly troughout the whole battle.

- Fight:

After your tank have engaged, let them get a little hate. After they get a decent amount, start meleeing him and SA+WS whenever you have 100% TP and SA is up. You may want to TA+WS tanks if they are Nin. Sometimes, Cerberus will do a huge Stoneskin move called Magmatic Hoplon. This is about a 1.1-1.2k Stoneskin if I remember. Just SA+WS in it to try to remove it. It will go down fast enough anyway as most of the time, you have help from other sam,drk and blu that are all /thf. Just do that and repeat until he gets to around 25% hp left.

At that point, you have to run far from him because he has now access to his signature move, Gates of Hades. With that move now accessible to him, you don't want to feed him TP that will allow him to spam it. You want to let your stunners have their timer up to stun it when he uses it. That's where a fully merited Meditate is useful. Whenever you have meditate up, use it and go SA+WS then go back out of GoH range.

With that strategy, our LS kills Cerberus in around 25 minutes. All in all, it's a pretty easy fight but fun to do.

Khimaira:(Startegy coming from Kerreck, just modified it a little for optimal performance)

What to bring:

-Reraise item (More than likely your going to die getting there, and hard to get a raise during the fight)
-Food (Use Meat food here since you are mainly going to SA and TA and Khimaira eva isn't that high.)

The Fight:

For Khimaira, you always want to go SAM/THF so you can TA+WS the tanks for hate control and SA+WS for optimal damage output. It is generally advised not to directly melee Khimaira because of his nasty AoE moves, so there are 2 ways in which you can obtain TP:

1) Sit there and meditate (if you have Shikikoyo meritied you could help the other DD out tongue.gif).

2) Have a DD party + 1 healer venture out and TP on Imps. If you want optimal damage output for this fight and make full use of both of your TA and SA timers, I'd recommend doing this.

After you have your TP, you can TA+WS the tanks ). WS onto the PLD that doesn't have hate to share the hate equally. Two things you must remember though, one being that the DD don't all want to bum rush him in order to WS, take turns so that incase he uses one of his many deadly abilities, you don't all wipe. If you have a SC set up, go in two at a time, but no more. Secondly, know what Khimaira abilities to avoid. It's best to TA+WS and then go out of Khimaira's AoE moves asap. It is recommend to use Flee before(if the timer allows it). Watch out for AoE DMG moves such as Plage Swipe, Tourbillion, Dreadstorm, Thunderstrike and Fulmination (his "Gate's of Hades" move, shouldn't be a problem if your stunners are doing their jobs, plus he doesn't spam it like Cerberus). Each of these could potentially 1 shot you (particularly Plague Swipe, Tourbillion and Fulmination). Plague Swipe only happens either if your fighting/pull hate from behind or you manage to position your tanks so they tank from behind. Just focus on TA + WS your tank to help them with the hate, set-up a SC for BLMs and SA+WS him when you can. In overall, he isn't that hard of a fight.

8 ) Samurais in Dynamis

- Dynamis in General

Dynamis is like a mini time attack. You have a set time at the start, you kill a lot of mobs which have the possibility to drop AF2 which is for Samurai is called Saotome. The main goal of Dynamis is getting the key item at the end after killing the boss but most of the time after though, people do it for currency and af.
Most samurais in Dynamis will either be /war,/thf,/rng and /nin. Here, I'm going to tell the pros and cons of each sub and a really small explanation of what to do and not do.

- Sub jobs in Dynamis

In Dynamis, monster dies fast and you as a Samurai must do your part. The main goal you will to focus on a samurai in Dynamis is maximizing your DoT to be able to WS as much as possible so mobs dies faster and go on the next target, etc. You will want to adjust your equip/sub for this and this is what this section will tell you.

Warrior: The subjoice of sub for almost any event is still in my opinion the best in Dynamis. Mainly because you have access to Berserk and Double Attack, which combine with meat food and a 6-hit/haste setup is deadly in Dynamis.Even if you pull too much hate, you have seigan you can really on, excepction from ranger mobs from which you might get EES in the face quite often ;x.Still, this sub is really recommended.

Thief: Thief as a sub as it's use in Dynamis because of sata+ws putting on high number but loses much of it's effectiveness ue to monster always moving because of the number of melee hitting them thus making it hard as hell to sata the mob. You also lose Double Attack and Berserk from war sub. Not really the best I can recommend you.

Ranger: Ranger sub can be nice if you want to have a nice DoT and keep your distance from the mobs. Thing is though, the time you take to melee, run a little and switch to R.Acc for Sidewinder then come back, you will take too much time. Still a good source of damage and for shit and giggles as well ( people who have run after rangers and /rng from charmga know what I'm talking about :x ).

Ninja : Ninja sub is for like almost everything, good for survivability only but reduce DoT, no berserk nor DA and less str. Not recommended really unless you don't really trust your LS's skill in Dynamis ( which mostly will result in a wipe and you death anyway).

- Do's and Dont's

There are things required in Dynamis, it's called coordination and organization which means you must play your part in it and thus there are things that you must do and musn't do. Here is a quick list of them:

-Do's and Dont's:

-Concerning Raise:
Do:Bring yourself a RR Pin or Gorget, your mages will love you for this.
Don't: Whine about getting a R1 because you didn't bring yourself a pin or gorget, it's your fault you didn't get one so take the R1 and don't talk back. It's only 1,200 exp loss anyway ;x

-Concerning Targeting
Do:Make yourself 2 /assist macro, one for the main assaist and one for the secondary assist.
Don't:Attack a target by yourself if the MA didn't choose one. Just wait. There is nothing worse than someone hitting the rong target because he/she didn't assist.

-Concerning Leadership in Dynamis
Do:Like I said previously, coordination and organization are important in Dynamis so listen to your leaders and everything should go fine.
Don't:Try and take decision on your own because this can screw up a Dynamis, waste 1mil gil and cause unneccesary drama within the shell.

- Saotome Armor(AF2)

Well, like most things in the game, most people want something for their effort. This is one of the reason AF2 armor exists. Their drop isn't really good but might as well try your chances at it anyway *'-')b
There cannot be more than 1 piece of the set of AF2 per zone and each zone as it's own pieces. The exception for Samurai are Dynamis-San D'oria and Dynamis-Tavnazia where none of the Saotome (-1) drops. For now I will add the AF2 NQ version but later on, I will add the -1 version as well details on how to obtain it.

Here is the list:

Saotome Kabuto:
Posted Image

Drops from: Dynamis-Xarcabard
One of the nicest piece of the set (look wise) but like most Xarcabard AFs, it's drop rate is shit. Only use as last resort acc piece.

Saotome Domaru:
Posted Image

Drops from: Dynamis-Beaucedine
Nice looking piece thus it's use is mostly town gear because stat-wise, it sucks ;x

Saotome Kote:
Posted Image

Drops from: Dynamis-Bastok
Really the must have piece from the AF2 set. Its enhance meditate effect is really nice to have on hand, especially on maxed merited Meditate.

Saotome Haidate:
Posted Image

Drops from: Dynamis-Windurst
While combine with Seigan, the Saotome gives a slight increase in the number of anticipates from Third Eye and a slight increase in counter rate as well. However, the increase is so minimal that you're better keeping whatever you're using.

Saotome Sune-Ate:
Posted Image

Drops from: Dynamis-Jeuno
Nice piece to have when going for a full att + setup. That's about it.

- Samurai vs Dynamis Lord

Dynamis-Xarcabard is a little different than the other Dynamis though I won't go into details here. The Mega Boss of all Dynamis and the boss of xarcabard, Dynamis Lord is the same as Shadow Lord but he is WAY more powerful. This is where you will need absolute coordination from everyone. Here is the preparation and what you'll do in the fight.

Preparations:

Before entering Dynamis:
- Go /war to this fight. You WILL need the Berserk,Double Attack from it versus DL.
- Get at least 1 Poison Pots for this fight because DL has an AoE that can sleep you.
- Buy an Icarus Wing, even if you are a samurai. You will need it.

Before the fight:
-Meditate to 300% and if you have at least 1 point in Shikikyo, share with a member. DL is the last place you can be greedy for your tp.
-If you share with someone, be sure to meditate to at least 200% again before the fight.
-When bards have rotate their songs, use your food and poison pots. Use att food, DL evasion is crappy as hell.

During the fight:
Remember the fight vs the Bomb in CoP 5-3 ? Well it's the same thing here, unleash everything you have. You won't get hate don't worry, DRK with K.Clubs will take care of that. The way I go is usually:

WS >> Meikyo Shisui >> WS >> Meditate >> WS >> WS >> Icarus >> WS >> WS >> WS

After that if you won, well congrats, you have completed Dynamis in term of storyline. Go get your crappy final CS ;x then be ready to do all Dynamis again on a weekly basis.

9) Samurai in Salvage.

Gear for Samurai in Salvage

Even if it is hard to get, Samurai have awesome gear to look foward to in Salvage. This gear all come from 1 set called Usukane. Each of these pieces require 3 lower level piece of gear that you get in salvage, some crafting supplies that you can either get from the AH or craft yourself if you have the required craft lvl.

Usukane Somen
Posted Image

This is a really good head piece that combines both haste and acc+. This is kind of a Ace's Helm -1 but a little harder to get. A good piece to aim for.

Usukane Haramaki
Posted Image

This is a good piece but in fact, the likes of Haubergeon +1 and Azkar Korazin are better and by far easier to acquire. A nice piece of town gear if you posses any of those 2 or a valid piece if you don't (but you really should aim for a Haubergeon +1 even if you have the Haramaki).

Usukane Gote
Posted Image

Best used vs really evasive things (Kirin, etc.) Nice little stats for solo.

Usukane Hizayoroi
Posted Image

Best WS leg piece to use if your att is not capped vs non-evasive mobs.

Usukane Sune-Ate
Posted Image

Best feet gear for samurai but one of the most sought after piece from Salvage.Nothing to add, the stats talk by themselves. Get them if you have the chance to.

-Samurai role in Salvage:

Quick resume on Salvage. It's an area that you enter butt nacked, without being able to use weaponskill, job abilities, magic or any pieces of gear. You start weaponless so it means you are going to kill mob with h2h so be sure to have your h2h capped, even put some merit in it if you have the possibility to. Monks are highly preferred in this due to their high h2h skill and their insane DoT when they have their weapon unlocked.

When monk got their weapon and weaponskill unlock, you should be near the top of the priority list for Incus Cell (Unlocks weapons and shields) and the Opacus Cell (Unlocks JA and weaponskill).

Overall, listen to your leader and it should go smoothly.

10) Merits order for Samurais
To come soon.

11 ) Damage Calculation

I'll come up with an example soon enough. For now just remember str/dex ratio is 1 = 0.75

- Weapon Skill Damage

I'll come up with an example soon enough.

YGK fTP mod is now: 100% = 1.5625
200% = 1.875
300% = 2.5

12) Richardd's post on /war survival.

*Disclaimer: Credit goes to Richardd for the awesomness of this post.

im gonna break it down to you in my point of view.
DISCLAIMER: I SAID MY POINT OF VIEW.

there are 3 types of sams.
1. The ones that suck/bandwagon.
2. The ones who know how the job works and how to play it.
AND
3. The ones who know how the job works and takes it to another level while playing it.

No offense to any of the /nin believers out there, but i can see where most of you fall into. Ive done all the endgame available on sam(except Odin, i coudln't go sam to that, thats nin onry)and to this day, at this age after kiting KV(as in holding KV as a sam with a rdm, duo for 30 min until another kiter came, not just run around for 3 sec and call it kiting) to resisting a damn citadel buster as a sam/war, there is no excuse for subbing nin. And i choose my words carefully.
excuse.

I mean really, i can be sort of sympathetic in the areas of "my support isnt all there" kind of thing, because i been there. I choose not to bring sam/war to Tier 3 einjarhar because with 3 waves of mobs and a boss with 30k HP that you have to beat in under 25 min, mages dont have time to rest and heal, and they need all MP they can spare. yup, but even than... sam/war isnt going to bring it down in the slightest.
I go mnk for a high DoT 2 hour with a chiblast of inhibit TP effect rotation, but if einjerhar was gimped and the time limit was extended by 3-5 min, i would go sam/war w/o even thinking twice about it and find someone else with penace merited, lol.

one example i keep hearing about is Limbus/nyzule assults. What about it? Sam/wars can't tank in low number limbuses/nyzule assult? bullshit, lol. Ive been on plenty of runs where i was the only voke and main tank as a sam/war even with nin available as one of my jobs for both occasions. Do you know why ppl dont ask me to change to nin? Because i know how to tank with it. I can spare 2x more MP on my healers while sub /war than i ever could on /nin. Its my kind of play style. Im aggressive, i dont hold back, i dont care about my pretty little epeen numbers. The second i get 100 TP, I'm firing of a WS if the mob has over 20% health. Who cares about 10 STR and haste or whatever when you can take 0 dmg for approx 10-15 sec. I'm at the stage where i totally forgot what hasso felt like. The majority of my 1800's was there with seigan up.
Posted Image

Even with Limbus bosses, if i have the support needed to tank, i do it. And by tank i dont mean i did a 2k WS and tank for 2 sec till the pld got hate back, i voked, and timed siegan, and we had this thing down to 5% in about 5 min. (we spent the remainder of the time farming chips so we held it so it can spit out more pods on purpose, lol. but again, this was on sam/war)
Posted Image

even little half ass trips to einjarhar, ill take the role of tanking. Why not? even in a pty with 2 blus a pld and a bard i can still pull it off
Posted Image

one thing thats gotten popular lately is sam tanking chariots. I wish i wouldve taken a pic of me solo tanking LBC or LAC for a good 10 min because my co-tank either got missiled or charmed, but this was the only one i can find. It can work. I can actually take this lower now, because if i do take the role on tanking, i found out i can still hold hate and take considerable less dmg if i ate tacos instead of meat.
Posted Image

and i can show you hundred of pics of me saving MP in exp ptys WHILE doing heavy ass dmg, but this will do for now. This was in a typical pickup pty, and i was main voke. But take a look at the mages MP. A sam who can take advantage of /war, is the one who makes chain 100's seem nothing but normal to him, but extradinary to the average plater.

50k-1m (depending on motivation and other jobs you have leveled)
and timing!:

All these pics are w/o phalanx 2(actually the exp one is, but i dont think its capped), or taz tacos, or hell only 1 pic has me using defender. And to make sam/war more MP efficient than /nin, you really dont need the almighty "Ohshit" macro and arhats. You just gotta be good with timing.

LETS TALK ABOUT TIMING!
Depending on what jobs you have lvl'd, some might notice attack patterns faster than others (tanks and whms usually being the fastest on noticing

Add a dynamis section.
I'll look up the pictures/info for it to contribute to the thread.

Edit: For the "To come soon" part you want suggestions from other people?

Yeah I thought of that but forgot to put it in ;x

And the To come soon part are just what I'm still working on. I wanted people to at least have an updated guide. But once I posted most things for these sections, you're more than welcome to sahre your thoughts/post opinions.

One thing I thought as well was to add a "SAM in Merits" section because I've seen really bad samurais meriting but I'm still not sure.

Opinions ?

The breeches are good +2STR +2DEX and 3 attack is a solid piece until Haidates. AF1 is +3STR but you also get 1 acc and 3 attack at the cost of 1STR point on the breeches, so all in all a solid piece.

I think if you look were he put them, last, this designates that this is the last choice, if you didn't have any of the aforementioned gear. But I agree there are many more choice thats are much better 70+.

Looking good so far. I'll write up a little something for Fafnir/Nid and also something to commemorate Kayoto's contributions to this forum before he quit. :X I think he's more than deserving of a small section.

Dynamis:

Dynamis is a event where linkshells go into a city and trade a hourglass to the "Trail Markings". The SAM relic armor called Saotome drops in every dynamis except San D'Oria and Tavzania.

The following are which areas drop which part.

Dynamis: Windurst:

Dynamis: Bastok:

-Stacked with Myochin Kabuto these will give you a 160tp Meditate along with you getting 300tp off Meditates in less then ~6mins.

Dynamis: Jeuno:

Dynamis: Beaucedine:

Dynamis: Xarcabard:

Dynamis: Valkurm and Qufim:

Dynamis for a Samurai:

/Thf: Mobs in dynamis go down pretty fast depending on how your linkshells melee are skilled in dynamis. Dynamis is usually very laggy and getting a SAWS off of 10 DDs pulling hate is difficult. I wouldn't suggest this sub in a dynamis unless for specific situations.

/War: This is the probably the best sub in dynamis due to gaining tp fast and ws'ing while not waiting for SA or waiting for the mob to get in the right position.

Fill this in with other subs, I'm usually going /thf or /war. D:

Just as a side note, I would suggest saving money and not going the Shura togi route, this doesn't necessarily need to be in the guide, but from personal experience, I regret uncursing togi (at least until my MNK gets to 73). At the time, Togi was 15m less than Haubergeon+1, but in the long run, Haubergeon+1 is simply the best body piece (all around) that we can equip. And now I have 50k to my name. >.>

Looks great, but on the 6-hit section you have c. chain listed twice.

edit: also, ive found myself going /rng in dynamis sometimes, especially cities. nothing beats spamming sidewinder on a ranger mob in a competition with the tanks to see who can take the most EES biggrin.gif

Yeah I will correct it for C.Chain.

I don't think that /rng is absolutely needed for Dynamis. I will put it but /war is fine if you want to take sidewinder in the face ;x

Yeah but notice though that I wrote that if you are lvling mnk as well you might want to consider getting one. It isn't suggest but if you want to because if ppl level mnk and sam, they might sell their haub ( I don't advice doing so ) and use Togi anyway.

I use Togi as sam/nin and anytime I grab hate. Not worth uncursing just for those reasons, but I still enjoy having mine.

Also, don't forget about Fenrir's Earring for it's multiple uses.
