Sorry if this has been discussed before but would Minuett earring be better then fowling earring for WS?

There's no reason to WS in fowling earrings since you should be capping your WS ACC on almost anything you fight. So that would mean that, yes, minuet earring is better for WS. Although, fenrir's, vampire & triumph are all better options than minuet.

I'm leveling this job just because I enjoy it and having been wanting to level it for quite some time. It's the only reason I level any job is because I find them fun and enjoyable.

I don't want to be grouped alongside those bandwagon SAMs that get posted here often (and provide me with a good source of entertainment).

Anyway! Since my primary job is Red Mage with secondary jobs in BRD, DRG, and DNC, all my merits have been geared towards those jobs. Is there anything seasoned SAMs can advice me for this job?

I read all the stickies here so far, and dangit! DW, update it. XD It's a great sticky though so I come back to read it from time-to-time.

The only SAM non-job specific merits I have are:
- Capped Critical hit rate %-age at Level 4
- Capped Polearm at Level 8 (It's funny how my Polearm is higher than my GKatana capped at Level 47 )

So far this is my gear at the moment for my 47 SAM is the following:

Head: Voyager's Sallet
Body: Lusaint Haubert (bought this two years ago for 4 mil. for my WAR *ugh* and now it's 300k >.>)
Hands: Horomusha Kote
Legs: Republic Subligar
Rings: Jaeger Ring / Woodsman Ring
Earrings: Beetle Earrings +1
Feet: Bounding Boots
Back: Jaguar Mantle
Neck: Spike Necklace

This is what I have planned out to 75 after talking to SAMs on my server and reading the stickies here.

Gear for Level 50 to 59:
- Switch Jaeger Ring for Ecphoria's Ring
- Switch to Spike Earring at Level 55
- Great Katana:

- Soboro Sukehiro (got this a year ago when SAM was level 15)

- Is Koryukagemitsu worth getting at Level 50? The stats are nice and all, but is it better than Soboro?

Gear for Level 60 to 69:
- Switch to Amemet Mantle +1 at Level 61
- Switch Lusaint Haubert to Haubergeon at Level 59
- Switch Spike Necklace to Chivalrous Chain at Level 60
- Switch to Daihannya at Level 59
- Switch to Minuet/Coral Earrings or Coral Earrings x2 at Level 61/63

Gear for Level 70 to 75:

At this point, I don't have Bushinomimi since I have Suppanomimi for Dancer and Warrior. I also have Tamas and Balrahn's Rings for my RDM and BRD, so no Ulthalum and Rajas Rings. Would sticking to Woodsman/Ecphoria's for TP work and then macroing in Level 72 STR rings for WS be enough?

Also, Hagun is at 2.7 million Gil (and rising) on Bismarck. All of my Gil is being saved towards completing Marduk's Jubbah (body), so the best alternative I can surmise after talking to other SAMs here is Onimaru. I'm not quite sure, but a few also said that an unlocked Michishiba is a good alternative to Hagun as well.

So the Great Katanas I can probably get are:
- Level 70 - Kamewari (from Amikiri), I plan on camping this on RDM before I hit 70 on SAM.
- Level 72 - Michishiba, maybe I may I do a KS30 for this.
- Level 73 - Onimaru, definitly considering this
- Level 73 - Ushikirimaru, this has been sitting in my Storage for over three years. Free lotted from my first ever Sky LS. XD Good or not?

At Level 74 to 75, I have the following options:
- Level 74 - Hacchonenbutsu Dangozashi (say this 10 times in a row >.>); is this any good?

I do want a Ace's Helm if at all possible since my DRG can benefit from it as well. Currently the only LS that I know that may sell it is Discoid LS (Hi Jay!) for 6 million Gil. As much as I like my LS, I'd rather not try for camping Vinnagerroon giving how we did on Tinnin.

Is the SAM AF2 head any good though? I see like one or two SAMs that wear it fulltime on Bismarck.

What WS head gear do SAMs usually use if one doesn't have access to Ace's Helm? >.<

AF2 Hands for macro in for meditate.

use the store tp legs til 70 since no rajas will give you tp a round faster til 70, then use RK, or AF til shura/byakko.

GKT: Pachipachio is good great katana for non-rajas people til hagun, since it ad full store tp merits is 6-hit, and onimaru if not.

as for WS head at 75 Orc helm > Shura > Wyvern/AF+1 > Ace> Askar, askar is also nice for tp if no Ace's and use O-hat at 70

legs: at 75 byakko always for tping and shura or Af+1 for ws

Body: Macro KO for ws if you have it, and it most things Haub > shura.

Fowling Earring/Coral or Fowling Earring/Minuet, using first if no songs, and second if songs, go fowling/brutal full time when you have that

Rings sound fine unless you want to get something like Divsor, or Itoa for tping

Feet: Fuma/dusk+Rutters, or Hachiman Feet if will get you a 6-hit or Enkida feet aren't terrible either for tping.

Hands: Kote til Dusk/Askar, or N kote for Acc set and Again Hachiman kote like feet is good for 6-hit bad otherwise

AF only head worth getting unless you want to upgrade hands or legs really, body/feet for show.

AF+1 Hands and head only decent peices, both are nice for weapon skill set-up, or legs if you don't have shura for ws.

Relic is meh more or less besides hands, I used head for acc set for while but Hissho Hachimaki is much better.

I don't check it as often as I should D: I know there are a few things lacking but so far, it's pretty much up-to-date. Except the pictures but the new KI format as a limit on the amount of pictures so now I have the nice job of picking the one that are/not worth it and correct their link.



I'll try to answer you questions to give you the answer you're mostly looking for.

- First-handed, the gear you possess at the moment is excellent and well matched. If you can ever find a Peacock Charm BC run, try at it but at the moment, it is just a plus, not a need.

- The gear path that you made for your leveling seems quite fine at first view. To answer the question of Koryagekagemitsu versus Soboro, the answer is quite simple. It's the Soboro. Koryuake seems quite nice at first but the amount of TP you'll be getting from Soboro will let you launch quite a few more weapon skills than Koryuake.

- For the sTP part, I'll tell you this (and it is purely my opinion but I do think it's almost a fact). You can do fine without Balrahn's but Rajas is a key piece for Samurais. Tamas is easily replaceable by other rings like Snow/Aqua/Omega but Rajas cannot be replaced. I'd suggest you drop Tamas and get Rajas but the decision is up to you. Whatever you decide to do, let me know here and we can continue on this topic thereafter. This englobe as well your question on Hachiman Kote/Attila's earring and anything sTP related at the moment.

- If you don't have any Hagun,stick to Soboro up until Onimaru and stick to Oni until you get an Hagun.

- For the AF, just get the helm, the rest is trash. For the AF2, the hands are your priority there. The head is nice but it's only an acc piece and not really needed. For TP Walahra is better (since you mention Ace's being out of your reach at the moment) and Wyvern/+1, Shura/+1 and that new orc helm for WS.

- Haubergeon is better for TP than Shura Togi. The only reason you'd want to change it (for TP) is if you get an Amano or buy an Haubergeon +1 For the WS part of body, Kirin's Osode is the best viable piece for it, as Hakamaru demonstrated that YGK gets an innate acc bonus and therefore, don,t need the Haubergeon's acc.

- One thing I'd consider going after, is the obvious Brutal Earring to use alongside a Merman's/Fowling earring (since you don't have Bushi).

I hope I covered most things as I looked trough this/answered quite fast. If I forgot anything, let me know and good luck on getting Samurai at 75. You'll find that it is an amazing job, full of potential. By the way, say hi to everyone for me.

And, if I were to get people to help me with it again, they're expecting me to pay them for it. *sigh* So, I'm going to hold off on P.Charm and use Chiv Chain in the meantime.

Itoa Ring is a decent acc ring better than woodsman/sniper but worse than toreader/sniper +1, so hard to say if worth it.

People used to think that Y/G/K pDIF was the same as your melee pDIF. It's not (we get the following pDIF/ATT bonuses... Y:25% G:100% K:50%).

Osode is your ideal GKT WS body piece unless you're fighting Kirin unbuffed or something.

It depends on how much DA you have in your WS build...
The DA proc's hit is not subjected to the 1-hit accuracy bonus, so basically your DA is sitting around 50~60% acc most the time on anything that isn't a pink bird, where we don't use GK anyways.


That being said, Osode and Haramaki pan out about the same. hq Hauby is better than Askar though... so never ws in askar unless your acc is capped on WS and you have no domaru.

I dunno about Hauby beating Askar. Askar will land .095 more DA than Hauby will. Hauby +1, however, does win by .16 more DA landed (and higher STR/ATT).

This is asuming 60% acc before Hauby(+1) and 17% DA before Askar.

Askar: 19*.6= 11.4 DA landed
Hauby: 17*.665= 11.305 DA landed
Hauby+1: 17*.68= 11.56 DA landed

Conclusion:
If you have Hauby+1, use it. (Until K.Osode)
Hauby vs Askar? Who gives a shit.
