does your computer science degree know of a way to suss out all the modified files in the Final Fantasy folder after an update and then conveniently list all of that into a notepad txt file?
Cos that would help a lot with dat mining.. (i currently manually do it.. which is a bitch especially with them editing old dats every update now that they're adding stuff to old gear)
and if I had more time to do that I'd have more time to help with naming and sorting dats..
but yeah.. afaik yours is the most updated and well sorted AV list out there. kudos

It just so happens I already have such a program. Fair warning, the lists it generates are huge; it found 2,018 modified DATs in yesterday's update and only about 100 of them actually contained anything of interest.
Still working on version 2 of my lists for this update.

The files have been updated: the numbers have been restored, the new armor is now labeled as (<job> AF3) like the previous AF sets, and the name corrections that Kantori contributed have been added.
Here are the links again, the URLs are the same:
AltanaView for September 2010
Model Viewer for September 2010
Enjoy.

thxs for the update Mr_McGregor, also big thxs for putting the motion names back and rediting them better then before it helps alot and also for tagging the AF3
Note: I notice the Hume Female Body list is missing past Askar Body on both Altana Viewer/Model Viewer.
Other things missing for HF are the Dancer, Scholar action tab listings using AV, I do not know if anything else is missing on MV - the other races working as intended
Some Minor Misnaming/Contribution viewed using AV : These are based on HF selection only, sorry that's fav. :X

I have the problem all fixed but at this point I'm just going to wait for the December update to upload. Three weeks have passed since the update, I don't think anyone would even notice if I posted a fix now.
I don't know why but it seems like whenever I misplace stuff on the lists it's always always for HumeF. >.>

The Abyssea bugard is 1-165-118. I found it but not until after I updated the files.
I also found Blobdingnag at long last. It's been bugging me for months that he wasn't with the rest of the VNM monsters. He's at 1-4-124.

Indeed, he was being sneaky and blending in with the original slimes.
"No, we're not new additions", he said as I looked through the March update. "We've been here forever."

I am new to dat files, and it doesnt sound TOO tough to figure out, but i'm hitting a bump. I'll post this here and see if someone can help me with my problem faster.
anyways ...i did a few things but my friends are telling me that the dat.files are probably changed/moved b/c it's not working. I had an outdated version, but i have sense updated to the most current and the "paths" are the same. what i did is look up Joytoy, then went to the file in mycomputer/programs/ect/ect and put a copy on my desktop, then i pressed the back button and found the excal date file/dat# and put a copy on my desktop, then put the excal file inside the joytoy folder, and renamed it as the joytoy number. it did a override of the number and then i equipped joytoy and it was still a joytoy. can you help me with that info?

That sounds correct... the only potential problem I can think of is, are you overwriting the correct version of the Joyeuse? There are actually seven copies of each two-handed weapon model and fourteen different copies of each one-handed weapon model. It doesn't make a dang bit of sense, but that's how they did it. You have to make sure the one you're overwriting is the copy for your race's main hand.

what mcgregor said.. every piece of weapon and armor has 1 different type for each race and gender, except for tarus which are the same for both genders...
to make sure u're choosing the right one, u can always go into Altanaview or something, select joytoy from the PC tab set to your own race and use that dat number (its listed on the bottom left). make sure you replace it with the same race/gender version of excalibur or it wont turn out right..
you can use the viewers to verify if what u did worked too

grahhhhhhhhhh...
I'm having a headache trying to find the ever-elusive Smilodon without collar. I think it doesn't exist. I'm beginning to think they do something to the only known Smilodon model on our list to remove its collar.. because I can't seemed to find it.. and I did a quick scour of pretty much the entire ROM and ROM5 folders... to no avail..
edit: i think lynx too.. not sure..
tho in the process I think I picked up a few things that are missing from the list.
Rom/188/70 - Portafurnace
Rom5/5/100 - Sandworm Reskin
not sure how long that reskins been there but 'date modified' says the september update date, so I'm thinking it might actually be ninja-ed in for Ulhuadshi..
Also, theres a Rafflesia dat thats missing
Rom5/5/95-96 are both Rafflesia, but they're different. Only 95 is in the viewer.. One might already be used for NMs. can't really tell.
Hope you can add these in McGregor, since your list is probably the most accurate.. also assuming the one you have at the moment contains changes since the last release...

You're probably right about the Smilodon. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the models already listed can be displayed without the collar in-game. There's precedent for it; if you look at "Shadow Lord - 1" under WotG NPC, there's obviously geometry on his right hand sword that doesn't show up when you fight him.

Is there any way to view furnishings in model viewer or altana view? EWH maybe?
