I saw the DRG's had a great one of these and got jealous.

Also going to use the same colour coding system that Dragonhope used on her DRG thread because it looks nice and worked for her/him.

Color Code:
Blue = This piece of equipment is nice
Red = This piece of equipment is very nice but often not the most friendly in price.
Red and Bold = This is incredibley useful. If you have the patience/gil to get it then all power to you.

DPS - Damage per Second

Note: When dual-wielding daggers you want to put the Highest Base damage dagger in your main hand. Always.

=====================================================
So it begins
=====================================================
Weapons until level 33 can vary a great deal due to not having a decent Dagger weaponskill until then. The guide is made with the assumption that you have the patience to skill up dagger once you hit 33 if you originally chose not to use one.

Level 1: Bronze Knife/+1 for the Dagger Purists. On your way to level 10 you can quite happily /MNK and go ahead with your fists. Regardless of your choice in Weapon you still want to /MNK for the first 10-15 levels. If you want to make use of Weaponskilling on your Sneak Attacks at level 15 you want to start of using a Sword. Wax Sword/+1 would do you nicely. Cassie Earring isn't reccommended unless you really do have problems finding places to spend your gil. Bastokan Ring + San d'Orian Ring if you can get either or both work from 1-14.

Level 7: Dagger men want to grab themselves a Beestinger. It's very very fast and beats your old level 1 dagger in DPS. Swordsmen might wish to upgrade to a Sapara/+1. Leaping/Bounding Boots! I don't care how... i do care when. Get these. They are your best piece of equipment from levels 7-72 in this slot. End of discussion.

Level 9: Brass Dagger +1 beats the Beestinger for DPS. Not a change that would shatter worlds but consider it.

[Very Important Note! Read even if you are past level 10]
Level 10: Legionnaire's Crossbow allows you to start skilling up Marksmanship which i cannot stress enough how important this is. No need to upgrade Xbow for a long time as it is the effects and not the damage you seek. Legionnaire's Mittens/Royal Footman's Gloves are worth a pop.

Level 12: Dagger/+1 now. Either is wanted in preferance to the Beestinger. Travaler's Mantle if you really must have something on the backpiece that does anything other than +DEF.

Level 13: Knife/+1 beats the daggers respectively. Your choice. Sword people get a Scimitar/+1.

Level 14: Upgrade you gloves to Battle Gloves as they provide a useful boost to accuracy and that extra evasion which might make soloing and/or tanking (yes you might do this from 10-20! /war) easier. These are gloves to stick with for a Long time. STR or DEX rings (HQ only!) work here but Vision Ring and/or Mighty Ring in any combination are superb.

Level 15: Acid Bolts are your primary ammo for your Xbow. They destroy enemy defence making your DDs super strong. They also dispel Defence boost effects. Get these and use them. Forever

Level 16: Bone Earring +1 x2. Only get the NQ if you are very short on cash.

Level 18: Fire Sword/Flame Sword (HQ) for our Sword folk. Garrison Tunica for our rich folk.

Level 20: Now we get the tricky area. You can either /WAR or /NIN. Go somewhere else for the arguements about this. /NIN now gives you dual wield. If you /NIN you can either go Dagger, dagger (use the same ones); Sword, Dagger (use the listed ones); or Sword, sword (again... use listed ones). Your choice. I advise Sword mainhand and Dagger offhand but do what you like. As for Daggers you want to upgrade to Mercenary's Knife. Sleep Bolts are deemed to be useful for soloing. Useful on occasion. Key Ring Belt provides the first belt with a useful stat on it.

Level 21: Spike Necklace. Do not settle for a Fang (NQ) Necklace. It isn't an option. /blist {You can have this.}. Beetle Earring +1 x2. No NQs please. Garrison Hose is expensive but nice. You don't need this but if you are desparate to make your THF the best at all levels you might as well get this.

Level 23: Acid Dagger/Corrosive Dagger (HQ) are good fun. Optional upgrade here though.

Level 24: Emperor/Emperess Hairpin is an amazing piece. Wear this. Tiger Stole to TP in whilst saving Spike Necklace for WS. Nomad's Mantle/+1 if you want some AGI.

Level 25: Daggermasters... Windurstian Knife/Federation Knife are Brilliant. Get them. Bloody Bolts allow Thieves to solo brilliantly. Power Crossbow provides a damage boost and AGI+1. Might as well upgrade to this. Republic Subligar provides a great +attack boost. A very welcome addition.

Level 27: Humes now get Custom M/F Gloves which are superb all the way until Hecatomb Mittens. Use these in your WS macro. Tarutaru's can put on their Wonder Mitts to boost damage also.

Level 28: Mithran Scimitar is a beauty for our Sword wielders. Mainhand this (or have 2 and offhand it aswell).

Level 30: Genin Earring to be used ONLY if your subjob is Ninja and ONLY whilst doing a Trick Attack. Mercenary Captain's Doublet beats anything else you could wear on Body for now. Archer's Ring or Shikaree Ring x2 are perfect for TP gain. Rajas Ring will always work on either finger come rain or shine. Mercenary Captain's Belt is an upgrade in the Belt department. Noct Brais/+1 for weaponskills. HQ only please. Elvaans shouldn't bother with this piece...

Level 31: ...and this is why! Elvaans should get their RSE leggings and use those for WS. Magna M/F Chausses.

Level 33: Sword wielders find their joyous time at an end. Put your dagger/s on now and learn to love Viper Bite. You can still survive with a Sword offhand (and the Mithran Scimitar is great for that... +3DEX <3) if you like but your sword skill will start to become too poo at this point. This will be my last mention of swords. Peacock Charm/Amulet if you can get one. This is the 2nd best Neck piece for TPing in. This replaces the Tiger Stole.

Level 34: Windurstian/Federation Kukri's beat their "Dagger" counterparts in DPS. The change is worth it. Venerer Ring to replace Shikaree/Archer's ring.

Level 35: Drone Earring x2 for SATA. Jaeger Ring to replace other Shikaree/Archer's Ring or if you have and use a Rajas then use this instead of your Venerer Ring.

Level 36: Deft Ring x2 for WS. Just get one if you have a Rajas.

Level 40: If you got a Federation Kukri or two then don't even both with your AF weapon. If not get your Marauder's Dagger and have fun? /WAR people get their first decent Shield Strike Shiled. Thug's Zamburak is a wanted upgrade in the Xbow land. Sniper's Ring/+1 x2 (or 1 if you have a Rajas). Tilt Belt gives a nice +acc boost for this level.

Level 41: Voyager's Sallet is nice for all purposes. Switch in Emp. pin for Trick Attacks and soloing.

Level 42: Calveley's Dagger works well as an offhand dagger. If you are mainhanding your Marauder's dagger then this will compliment it very well. Poor people who couldn't afford Sniper's Rings can get an Assailant's Ring since it is cheap but nice.

Level 43: Walkure Mask is a lovely piece to TP in. Use Voyerger's Sallet for Sneak Attack only now. Swordbelt/+1 gives an ample boost to attack which is great at these levels.

Level 45: Viking Shield is a must have for any /WAR Thief. Brigandine/+1 for body slot.

Level 46: Bone Knife/+1! I really reccomend the HQ daggers. They are superb.

Level 47: Jaguar Mantle is your first vaguely decent Backpiece. Get it. Bravo's Subligar is great since the usual TP equipment is bollocks at this point anyway.

Level 48: Hornetneedle goes into your Offhand if you can get this. Life Belt is superb even at 75. Only a haste boosting belt surpasses this for TP gain.

Level 50: Corsair's Knife whilst expensive are very nice daggers indeed. The +10 attack is always wanted on a Thief as our DoT (non WS damaging) is poor. Any way to boost it rocks. If your acc is sucking Storm Zucchetto works for a while. Storm Loop adds a nice boost to attack. Rapparee Harness is a great piece of equipment if you can get one. Ocean Belt is a nice weaponskill piece but some may prefer the attack of a swordbelt. Royal Knight's Belt is just as good an option. Swift Belt is a dream for Thieves. If you never get a Speed/Velocious Belt then this is the next best thing.

Level 52: For the non-hume players: Rogue's Armlets provide an ample +3 DEX which is great for SA and WS. Keep using the Battle gloves to TP in though.

Level 53: Upgrade your mainhand to a Darksteel Knife/+1.

Level 54: Grace Ring/+1 for WS macro. Get 2 if you don't have a Rajas.

Level 55: Mainhand to Darksteel Baselard/+1, although check out Beetle knife covered at level 56. It might be worth waiting for it if you are short on Gil. Some people use Lightning Bow/+1 just for the +2/+3 DEX but you might find landing an Acid bolt better. Your choice. Spike Earring x2 (just 1 if you got the Storm Loop). Jaridah Peti/Akinji Peti are great body slots if you don't have a Rapparee Harness or lack Acc/Attack. Akinji Bazubands are an upgrade to the Battle Gloves. The NQ could be worth it for the +DEF and +2 Racc but neither are ground breaking stuff. Speed Belt/Velocious Belt whilst expensive and/or very rare are the best belts on the game for Thief. Only a Ninurta's Sash is better but since nobody can kill Absolute Virtue good luck with this.

Level 56: Rogue's Culotte for TA and soloing. Beetle Knife/+1 is actually a small amount better than a Darksteel Baselard and yet much cheaper. If you wanted to wait the extra level to get a cheaper but better dagger i don't think people would be too displeased. In fact for most people it's probably a sensible descision.

Level 57: Scorpion Harness/+1 wins. Toreador's Ring is rare and expensive but is very nice indeed. Cheaper than an HQ Sniper's Ring though!

Level 59: Darksteel Kukri/+1 mainhand only or Darksteel Kukri +1 in Mainhand and offhand if you can afford two of them. If accuracy isn't a problem you might want to think about using a Black Cotehardie/Flora Cotehardie to weaponskill in. Tabin Boots +1 if you can get them/have the money. Otherwise just keep wearing those level 7 boots (NQ is POO!). Spectacles if you can't get hold of a Peacock Charm/Amulet and if you want something better than a Chiv Chain. Also the +7 rAcc is great for that added bonus on pulls.

Level 60: Chivalrous Chain to replace Tiger Stole if you didn't get a Peacock Charm/Amulet or the Spectacles. Ignore this if you did. Potent belt can replace Life belt if your accuracy is great. I wouldn't bother though (get a Swift/speed/velocious belt!). Patroclus's Helm is a very nice headpiece for this level. The enmity loss doesn't matter as you'll not be using this whilst you Trick Attack (I bloody well hope!).

Level 61: Amemet Mantle is a must have. Amemet Mantle +1 is superb and will last you for a {Long time}!

Level 62: Cermet Kukri/+1. Taru's can use Creek M/F Mitts if they so choose during WS. Elvaan's can use Wood Gauntlets/Gloves for WS and if they can get them without much fuss i would advise to do so. At this level Humes get to use Marine M/F Boots if they so choose. I advise them as they are great! Other jobs still have to stick to those pishy Leaping boots.

Level 63: Bomb Core rocks. Use this when your Xbow serves no purpose (Bigger NMs, Dynamis etc...). Coral Earring/Merman's Earring are an upgrade to Storm Loop and Spike Earrings. Tiger/Feral Ledelsens/Trousers work if you don't have an +acc boosting piece here.

Level 65: Similarly Tiger/Feral Gloves are just about acceptable over AF for the very poor... although i would stick to battle gloves to be honest.

Level 67: Adroit Earring (NQ only... not point in HQ) for SA, SA+WS and TA+WS. You can chuck the Drone Earrings if you like. Assault Jerkin is a very hot piece for Sushi users. Worth getting.

Level 68: FINALLY! The moment all Thieves love. Real damaging daggers. Remove your Hornetneedle now. Get a Hoplites Harpe (two if /NIN). If you can get your hands on a Harpe then all power to you!

Level 69: Sirocco Kukri will sit in your offhand whenever you /NIN until you find yourself with a Perseus Harpe, Batardeau or Mandau. Thus a very, very long time. Upgrade your Cotehardie to the Blue Cotehardie/+1. Psilos Mantle is an upgrade to only the NQ amemet mantle. If you got the HQ amemet then this is arse.

Level 70: Magnet Knife whilst in a Party is a welcome upgrade to the Hoplites Harpe. No more than that though. Fire Bomblet instead of Bomb Core. Same rules apply. Optical Hat please. Pixie Earring for SA and/or WS. Tarasque Mitts/+1 work for Attack setup. War Gloves/+1 work for Acc setup. Use what suits you for now. Neither are the best in either department eventually. Assassin's Cape is a very nice piece of equipment indeed. Use this on your Weaponskills to pull hate around where you like! Charger Mantle is a tremendous asset. Consider sacrificing the STR+ for the attack+ whilst TP gaining. War Boots are a temporary solution to the drought in the TPing feet department.

Level 71: For those rich, impatiant types who can't be arsed getting a Sirocco Kukri this level provides Misericorde/+1/Stylet for the offhand. Don't put these anywhere other than in your offhand though. Ziksa's Crossbow is the bow for you. Fast and accurate it does the job. Aileron Mantle whilst nice to get an accuracy boost on the back doesn't provide enough to make this a "Must have" item in any respect. Forager's Mantle is, however, unmatched in brute power. Tricky to decide between this and the Charger's mantle. Warwolf Belt, very common, very cheap, best WS Belt. Get it.

Level 72: Blau Dolch is the 3rd most powerful dagger. 'nuff said. Adder Jambiya +1 is an okay substitute. Tatami Shield whenever you aren't /NIN. Pahluwan Qalansuwa if you have one lying around and your Acc is good enough to replace your Ohat. Breeze/Soil Gorgets from Sea to boost your WSs. Either Hollow Earring or Ethereal Earring work here when not /NIN. Suppanomimi is godly for /NINs. Pahluwan Khazagand is a great piece and easy to get. It beats the NQ Scorpion Harness hands down and debatabley beats the HQ for TP gain. Depending on an Acc or Attack setup you might want this. Dusk Gloves/+1 are the best attack piece for the hand slot. Adroit Ring or wait until 74 for a Thunder Ring. Use in WS macro (get two if no Rajas Ring). Dusk Trousers/+1 are amazing for your attack setup. The less rich funding an acc setup should get Pahluwan Serawheels. Dusk Ledelsens/+1 give a +haste/attack combo. Nice stuff.

Level 73: Perseus's Harpe is a beauty. Mainhand it. Hecatomb Cap/+1 for WS. Love Torque is the best Neck piece for THF to TP with. Dragon Harness/+1 is a fantastic weaponskilling piece along with Hecatomb Harness/+1, Hecatomb Leggings/+1, Hecatomb Subligar/+1 and Hecatomb mittens/+1. Get these. Commander's Cape is the best WS piece for back. Debatabley comparable with the Assassin's Cape. You'll have to make your own mind up though. +3 STR -1 DEX -1 AGI or not? Oh and use a Dragon Subligar/+1 until you get Hecatomb Subligar for Weaponskills (please don't use this for TP gain). Assassin's Poulaines! Finally a piece for feet that can be used for TPing in! If you can't afford the Dusk boots then get these for sure.

Level 74: Rogue's Armlet's +1 are debatabley the best piece for whenever you use Trick Attack. Rogue's Culotte +1 for TA if you feel like upgrading? Not the best use of time though. Thunder Ring if you didn't get Adroit Ring (again get 2 if you don't have a Rajas Ring). A fairly new item called Oily Trousers is a really great SA/TA/WS piece if you do and don't have Heca as it can be used for solo SA or TA as well as a combination of the two and when stacked with Weaponskills. Fairly pricey, however.

Level 75: Walahra Turban, Brutal Earring, Homam Corazza, Homam Manopolas and Homam Gambieras are "must have"s. Salvage equipment "Skadi's Cuirie" and "Skadi's Chausses" are amazing but good luck ever aquiring these. The former is the best WS piece for body and the latter is the best TP gaining piece for legs. Settle for a Homam Cosciales if you get one during limbus as they are almost as good. Cerberus Mantle +1 is incredibley rare due to the newly introduced monster only spawning a few times a week and the HQ being even more rare. If you can get one you will love it. Barbarossa's Zerehs are a good substitute until you can get the Homam legs too.

Suggested Gear sets for Endgame
Note well: This is a work in progress currently. Suggestions and constructive critism welcome.

The earlier on the List the better.

Colour Code:
Orange: This item is either Race Specific and therefore not availible to all or part of a combination of drops where you only have an option of rewards (ie Rajas Ring, Hollow Earring etc)
Blue: This is a standard economy piece of equipment that is either easy to quest or very cheap on the AH. This is a minimum requirement for all thieves
Red: This is a great piece of gear. If funds and situation allow it then this should be where you make your first upgrades
Red and Bold: This item is an excellent piece and the top of it's class. You would be expected to work towards aquiring it.
Green and Bold: This is a truely exception piece of gear. Only the very fortunate and hardest of workers get this. Your ultimate goal lies here. Don't be disheartened if you never get one.
Black: Not entirely worth the effort it takes to aquire. There are pieces that are either very nearly as good or better that take less time to obtain. However, if you do get your hands on this then by all means use it. It's not a bad piece it's just maybe not worth the time.

Weapons, Shields, Crossbows and Ammunition:
Note: When dual-wielding daggers you want to put the Highest Base damage dagger in your main hand. Always.
Weapon Combinations: Mandau, Bartadeau, X's Knive, P.Harpe, Blau Dolch, Sirocco Kukri, Behemoth's Knife +1, Magnet Knife (and Thief's Knife if you need TH)

You seem to be a little confused on the "Worth Buying" VS. "Must Have" VS. "Incredibly Useful, If You Have The Gil/Time"

Case in point: Amemet Mantle/+1

Amemet is is a must have, +1 if you have the Gil.

Case in point #2:

Cassie earring is NOT a must have....there is no way you should put off leveling until you have this. It's a pure luxury item...not to mention the stats aren't even that good for the time/price of it. 1 STR is nice, but it isn't going to make or break you. 1 VIT is a joke. MP-->HP is a joke.

You really need to re-think the ratings.

Level 63: Bomb Core rocks. Use this when your Xbow serves no purpose (Bigger NMs, Dynamis etc...). Coral Earring/Merman's Earring are an upgrade to Storm Loop and Spike Earrings.

At 63 you also gain access to Tiger/Feral Ledelsens (Attack+3/+4) and Tiger/Feral Trousers (Attack+4/+5). I found the Trousers good if you're not built for Haste. The Ledelsens are a good upgrade to your standard Bounding/Leaping Boots and Rogue's Poulaines.

Just something I feel could be added. Great guide though; was wondering why we didn't have one of these in the first place.

i'm using these and i'm getting mocked for it because it "isn't the norm". I see so many Thieves in Dragon Subligar and Dragon Leggings telling me that my equipment is a joke... i'm just wondering why they thing that +4DEX > +4 attack whilst TP gaining...

I'll add them in as "Intermidiate equipments". Although Republic Subligar is just as good as the Feral Trousers and are usually cheaper... i guess people pay money for style? tongue.gif

I only decided to not wear it because it made my thighs look large. That and I didn't know how good attack was when I was Mr. Nublet.

You might want to add in the Archer's Knife in at level 28, people could put it in their off-hand for extra RACC.

Dual Harpes/H. Harpe is pretty fail isn't it? I may be mistaken but I don't see why you would offhand it...

Guide wasn't written with soloing purposes in mind otherwise i would have included a lot of others stuff too.

Edit: to the Dual H.Harpe disbeliever ... If you can suggest a better alternative i'd like to hear it. ^^

You can slap Barbarossa's Zerehs on the 75 bit as an alternative to Homam pants, I love these pants, I use em for tping and for ws.

I'm not going to pretend I know all about THF but I don't see why you would use Dual Harpes. >_> But if you're really that into it, calling me a 'disbeliever' and all, believe whatever you want, chief. I'm certain I won't be using two.

As a plain suggestion, Garuda's dagger comes before Harpes, and while obviously inferior to Sirocco, I'd certainly offhand it before I'd offhand a damned harpe. But, that's just me, being a /WAR enthusiast and all.

Hoplite's 32/210 DPS=9.14
Garuda's 19/183 DPS=6.23

Once you hit 68 you never use a pre68 dagger. Period.

the disbeliever part was meant light heartedly.

Garuda's dagger is a joke. You do 50% more damage with a Hoplite's Harpe in that hand. Yes a Sirocco Kukri is better but many people don't get that before they hit 75 and you don't even get it at level 68 which is when you get the option of H.Harpes. It's explained in the guide for better options when they come around.

Adding those new Leggings to the list. Thanks Anacrusis ^^ never saw those before.
