Im level 16, fishing in Chaval River. The problem is, last night i went form 10 pm - 5 am fishing, only getting a bite every 10 minutes, and losing them. When I did get the fish, it was a salmon here and there, and maybe a ring. Any suggestions WHY mi not getting any bites? Its been a huge waste of time leveling it up, as i only got like...1 level in 7 hours

after 2 hours in the same zone, give or take, the anti-bot coding kicks in and drastically reduces your catch ratio, typically only stay fishing in any given zone for around 3 hours, then go do something in another region(not just zone i believe you have to change regions) or just log off for an hour or so to reset the bot code
i've read it takes about 1 hour out of the region to turn off the bot code, approx. This is so people who sit fishing for days on end get reduced fish incomeing from botting.

honestly i tried jugner at 20 and i found the skillup both lacking and the money as well so i explored other options asked my japanese friend and they al told me that jugner was no good.....and they said to try Altheine plateau witha composite/froglure combination...tried it and got 20-30 in one day of fishing giant catfish ,red terrapins and the odd darkbass

Pardon my skepticism, but I just tried La Thiene at fishing skill 20 with full fishing gear on Lightday (not lightning day) with an 81% moon using composite + Frog lure and I got not a single bite. Not one. Granted I only stayed for half an hour, but every cast was a "You didn't catch anything"

because I'm just getting into fishing, love this guide, and can live with forum clutter, I'm bumping this. Its a great help, although I don't think you can catch Giant Catfish off of the cliff in West Sarutabaruta. They're freshwater. If you want to catch one, they can be found in the pond in W. Saruta.

The quest is called "The Immortal Lu Shang" given my Imirlant near the oasis in Rabao. He requires two light crystals and an Ancient Lumber. Ancient Lumber can be crafted with a Wind Crystal and a Petrified Log, lvl 72 cap. Don't know how much the lumber goes for, but yeah you don't need a woodworking craftsman to repair it for you, and the lumber is lower skill. (Lu Shang is 80 skill cap). Safer too, you can't lose the broken rod on a craft.

I was in a group in the lower level of Kuftal Tunnel, and one party member was recovering from a Raise (a nearby RDM had spawned the Phantom Worm, which promptly killed our puller before the rest of us Escaped). So I was standing there and I noticed the large pool at our back. And I almost started fishing and remembered at the last instant that I might catch a monster - which would be a bad thing right then. So I mentioned it to my group and restrained myself.
So a couple of minutes later, the JP Summoner in our party steps over to the pool and whips out his fishing pool.
I kid you not, the VERY FIRST CAST he made pulled up a pugil.
We managed to kill it, fortunately, and that was the end of the fishing ideas for that party...

Cant skill up off red terrapins untill level 37 fishing.
West Sarutabaruta seems to be a better idea for giant catfish and dark bass.

if you read the info on the website, you´ll notice that the first number ist not the minimum skill required to catch the given fish but a recommendation when it starts being useful to go after them. a friend of mine skilled 0-20 in rabao only, that´s 9 levels that certainly come from getting sandfish bites.

By lvl 19 i was so sick of fishing in East Ronfaure that i decided to try Tiger cod and Nosteau Herring with a shrimp lure/composite rod in port jueno. I went from 19-25 or so there. I found the skillups to be quite plentiful. Of course you do gotta have airship pass (kazham pass) to access the water and pay 200 gil to access the docking area.
Then for a change of scenery I switched to giant catfish and red terrapin with a frog lure/composite rod in Knight Well outside Sandy until about level 30 or so. Skillups were fast there, and I'm pretty sure I got skillups off the red terrapin.

Bastore Sardines
(or can go with moat carp to 11, either or is fine)
Levels 20-31
Composite Rod-Sinking Minnow
Bastok Markets (bridge by Bastok Mines)
Giant Catifsh

I can't answer that question, but maybe if you check the website here:
http://lisaarndt.com/
Including the webforums (check the splash page), you could probably find a lot of specific info, the forums are stuffed with people who have A LOT of fishing experience.

I've been fishing a lot in rabao from 30-36, and after about 20 stacks of moat carp I think I got about .7 skill in all from sandfish. The other skill was all in saruta. It's really really slow levelling at that skill level, but you do get skill raises every now and then.

just got my fishing to 35, anyone think its a good idea to go to rabao now and catch sandfish (to skill up) and moat carp (for lu shangs) till level 50 or so? Slow skill ups wont bother me, because i can only catch these two fish and items using insect paste, meaning im either increasing my skill or working on lu shangs.
The longer it takes to skill up, the more moat carp ill be catching.
But do you think 35 is too early?

If you dont care about how long it takes to skill up then yeah, go for it. But youll probably catch stacks of moats before you so much as get a nibble from a sandfish
