The Blue Mage Hunting Grounds. An illustrated guide.

{Hello!}

My Name is Myriads, and I’m a rather quiet Beastmaster on the Phoenix Server who got the crazy idea into his head to solo Blue Mage from 1 to 75. I did. And on the way with help from lots of friends I learned all of my spells.

Like all of us here, finding where you need to go, and what sort of party and items you may need to hunt a specific monster, can take a lot of work. And it often costs precious exp also. I used a lot of online forums and sites to learn from. To me it was fun. But often information was hard to come by.

So I decided to create a website that would help other Blue Mages.

The project became “The Blue Mage Hunting Grounds. An illustrated guide to hunting Blue Magic Spells”

You can visit it here: http://74.53.42.102/blu/BLUMain.html

I hope that it helps all of you. Please feel free to contact me with information or comments at the address that you can find on the guide.

I only looked at the information for 1 spell (Body Slam) but I'm gonna say for an up and coming Blue Mage this is an exceptional site that I wish I had access too when I was leveling Blu. It looks quite detailed and thus is quite useful, good job with that one ^.^

This link NEEDS to be stickied and updated when new spells come out.

It has to be the best compilation of info for spell hunting I have seen to date.
The breakdown of info in it is very well organized and should answer any questions a BLU may have for it as well.

Nice job on the soloing and the site.

Thank you for the kind words.

Yes I put more time into the guide then I care to think about. It's a hobby that got out of hand :-)

I intend for the Hunting Grounds to be a dynamic guide that will be updated as the Blue Mage community provides information and hints and new camp ideas. So have no fears, when new spells come, (oooh Ochu and Cockatrice!) they will be added as soon as the information can be gathered. (I and some other Blues on my server will be on the job asap!).

The site is designed to have a low impact footprint on the host servers bandwidth, so I should not have any problems keeping it up.

You did a great job theres a few errors on some sea spells that are soloable,(having done so myself) but overall its a great guide and people should use it while leveling BLU.

You are very conservative in terms of what you list as soloable. Some examples:

Plasma Charge is best hunted in Al'Taieu.

A small party is recommended for this spell. A healer and tank at least. A skilled Ninja can solo the lower level Phuabo. This spell can be soloed with great risk by a Blue Mage starting at 75.

At great risk? lol you've got to be kidding me. Honestly if you can't solo these at 74-75 as a blu/nin you are a complete retard.

Disseverment is best hunted in Al'Taieu.

A Duo or Party of higher level help is recommended for this spell. A 75 blink tank DD and a Blue Mage can easily duo the spell. In this case it's recommended that the Blue Mage have a White Mage subjob to support the Tank fully. Solo is possible with high risk at Blue Mage level 75.

Can be easily soloed even before utsu: ni, high risk soloing the dc earns at 75? lmao

Really, you list every spell as "soloable with great risk, a party is recommended" if you might have to fight something easy prey or above, or if any strategy might be required. If this is a guide primarily intended to help blus learn spells, that's pretty counter productive, since you will end up with a bunch of blus sitting around crying for help with spells that are incredibly easy to solo, as if there aren't enough whiny blus like this already.

Dispite the critisism, you can still use this as a resource.

I'm very open to critisism. No worries there.

I'm happy to have feedback, and expected to do a lot of updating on what is and is not soloable. As I get info I'll make the changes. I didn't expect to get all the info into version 1.0.

There has not been a lot of people talking in detail about what they soloed and when/how, online (For example I'd find people saying things like "I'm sure I could have soloed the Aerns, but as I had some friends about, I didn't"), so I went with the most conservative approaches when I wrote the guide. I know that many things CAN be soloed /NIN, but I also know there are exceptions, and wanted to err on the side of people not getting dead. :-)

Send me a e-mail, or post here what levels you were able to solo something, and I promise the guide will shift to reflect your info as soon as I have time to edit!

I must agree with Star though...Ul'phuabo's and Ul'aerns are easily solo'd if you're not a complete moron.

Good job on the guide though. Just make a few more pages of posts asking for it to be stickied and in a few months you'll get it ^^b

What took you longer, soloing from 1-75 or making this guide? lol

Seriously though good job.

Not sure if this counts for anything but almost all of our spells can be solo'd by a rdm. I dual boxed every spell I could with a friend's rdm and just sat my blu down somewhere safe. Around 10% or so I just disengaged and spammed dia. Only ones I had to party up to get were ones in level capped areas, annoying crit-break the weapon ones (since they take forever), and stuff that is just really hard to fight while feeding tp (Wamoura, Dragons, etc.)

Nearly all blu spells are soloable at or before the level they are castable, when I leveled I soloed pretty much everything I could, here are the exceptions:

54- Radiant Breath
62- Body Slam
62- Memento Mori
63- Spinal Cleave
64- Voracious trunk
67- Diamondhide
67- Enervation
68- Firespit
69- Tail Slap
69- Hysteric Barrage
70- Amplification
70- Cannonball
74- Actinic burst (In retrospect, this is probably soloable at 74+, but I learned it doing CoP missions, so I didn't try.)
74- Reactor cool (same as above)
75- Exuviation

Some notes on the more difficult or not as obvious to solo spells:

Jettatura: In 40 cap, the low-tier hippos are a joke, very low evasion and defense, physical spells and headbutt destroy them. The 50 cap ones are only a bit harder, but have proportionately more HP and take longer to kill. You can evade the effects of jettatura by fighting backwards.

Frightful roar: Solo in 40/50 cap, Tauri are very easy to solo if you turn around when they ready a TP move, or just fight backwards entirely. I've soloed dozens of these without any problems while subbing /thf farming for codexes even, so annoying to see people whining for help with this spell.

Frost breath: This is one of the more difficult solos, but it's not that tough. Just pull the ones that check the lowest, and try to zerg them down a bit before they get enough TP to do frost breath. The higher HP they have, the more damage frost breath will do, plus you don't want to get paralyzed early on in the fight. Bringing RR is a very good idea here, since you aren't likely to get a raise in the middle of Uleguerand Range if you fuck up, haha.

Disseverment: Assuming you are soloing this at 70-72 without Ni, keep yawn equipped, and a light/apollo staff when pulling. If you get a mnk or nin aern (uses hand to hand), sleep it and zone. You can do this to all of the sword/axe/polearm aerns as well if you just want to fight the dagger ones for disseverment and zone everything else, but all non-h2h aerns are pretty easy to solo even at those levels.

Vertical cleave: The low tier euvhi are a joke at 75, the only reason I even mention it is your guide says "This spell can not be soloed." Seriously, the DC ones have very low defense/eva/HP, and you can take them down very fast with physical multihits. The only thing is, their damaging TP moves go through shadows, however they don't really deal that much damage. Keep cocoon up for when you get hit by vertical cleave, and maybe defense food if you want, but I didn't find it necessary.

Star A.D. :
74- Actinic burst (In retrospect, this is probably soloable at 74+, but I learned it doing CoP missions, so I didn't try.)

I've solo'd some of the lower tier Ghrah's, unless they're thunder or earth based, they're relatively easy to solo for Actinic Burst.

Star low level Flowers aren't hard if they don't do that slow move to you (keep Exuviation equiped just for that) the slow is like a 100% slow and almost killed me a couple of times soloing them.

Also, Low level Aerns can still be a pain, I would recommend atleast a RDM to help you. I had to have a RDM soloing heal me when the one I learned on RR'd on me ><

Reraise shouldn't be an issue if you're paying attention. If you put distance between yourself and the corpse, a reraised aern won't aggro, there is plenty of time to get away. Since you're fighting near the portal, you can also just zone after each kill to be safe. And even if you do somehow screw up and end up with reraised aggro, you should have yawn equipped always while solo in sea, so sleep it and zone.
