CHOCOBO RACING AND THE CHOCOBO CIRCUIT!

[red]Chocobo Racing[/red]

Well first you have to have raised a bird. It can be a current bird or a retired one. Too start you have to request a CRA racing card from the NPC in the choco stables. Trade this to the NPC on the left at the chocobo racing house. (If your bird is a retired bird you trade your VCS card to that same NPC.)

*you can only register one choco at a time to race.

Now you can start choco racing biggrin.gif At first you have the option to do 3 official races. (these are sorta trials to see if your bird can hack it in the races in fact they are known as the Novice races) These races are very easy and your opponents are on the low end with stats, most shouldn't have a problem beating these races. After winning the initial 3 you have the option to do free run races and other official races.

Making Preparations
Before running a race, you will have the opportunity to make the following preparations:

Visit the paddock
You can visit the paddock and view the condition of all the chocobos scheduled to participate in the upcoming race.

Give orders to the jockey
You can give your jockeys one of the following three orders:

Keep Pace~
Have the jockey maintain a consistent pace throughout the whole race.

Final Spurt~
Have the jockey save the chocobo's energy until the end of the race.

Sprint~
Have the jockey push the chocobo to its limits from the get-go.

Equip items
You can equip your chocobo/jockey with items that improve attributes or wreak havoc on other racers. Before you can equip items, they must first trade them to the CRA representative. The representatives will hold on to one of each item.
*Can only equip one item per race!

Time to Race biggrin.gif
Once all preparations have been made, the race will begin. All races are automatic, so you only need to sit back and watch the action unfold on the racetrack.

Weather
Just as in the field, weather on the racetrack can affect a chocobo’s performance.

Placing
To make races fair for chocobos of all sizes, placing will be determined not by when a chocobo’s beak crosses the finish line, but when its saddle does.

Items & Equipment
All items equipped to a chocobo or jockey, regardless of their type, are consumable and can only be used once (though the effect of chocobo equipment will be present throughout the race).

[red]Free Run Races[/red]

These races cost gil, about 100gil per race, per RL day. They cap out at 1000gil per race and the price will reset back to 100 after 1 RL day. These races are a bit harder but you can earn choco bucks to upgrade, dye, buy items, or participate in the official races.

*There are a few chocos you will need to watch out for that will, unless your choco is creme de la creme, leave you in the dust.

[black]Meteor Brian~ Black M chocobo ridden by an elvaan woman[/black]

[blue]Invincible Leg~ Blue F chocobo ridden by a galka [/blue]

[green]Star Onion~ Green M chocobo ridden by a taru woman[/green]

*These birds always use a speed apple during the races.
*I found the best way to beat them if you are close is to use a pepper biscuit.

By participating in the Free-Run Races you earn choco bucks. You dont have to win the races to earn the bucks but you get more for placing higher.

1rst place= 5 chocobucks
2nd place= 3 chocobucks
3rd & below= 1 chocobuck

[red]Official Races[/red]
*Only 1 per day is available. After beating an official race you must wait 24 hours (RL time) for the next one to be available to you.

After the Novice Races you have the option to do Official races. These can be easy or hard depending on your birds' stats and what items you use or the other riders use on you. I had no problem beating them with a First-class STR/END bird with no abilitys. I also won with a First class STR, A bit deficient END bird with canter and gallop.

b.Metal Saddle~ Improve Strength while hampering Endurance.
c.Cloth Saddle~ Improve Performance through a choco's Discernment.
d.Leather Saddle~ Improve Performance through a choco's Receptivity.
[purple]*without sufficient disc and rec the benifits of cloth and leather saddles will not have affect.[/purple]
[green]Lane Selection [/green]
[purple]*8 lanes~ all are identical and none has an advantage over another.[/purple]

*If 8 people do not sign up for any race the empty lanes will be filled by NPC chocobos.
[/purple]

[red]CHOCOBETTING [/red]
*This will allow you to place gil wagers on 2 chocobos of your choice in any Adventure Race.
*Purchase a chocobet ticket from the chocobet center at 100gil per quill.
*A single ticket may contain a maximum of 999 quills.
* You choose the birds you think will finish in the top 2. The order they finish is irrelevent so if you pick bird #1 and #2 to win it wont matter if these 2 finish first or second as long as they are the top 2 that win.
* The odds are based on overall placement of bets and can change up until the start of the race.
* Odds may be viewed at any chocobet center, as well as info centers located in the Grandstand.
* The odds represent the amount of gil a player will recieve per quill on a winning bet and is different for every chocobo pairing.
* The odds for a chocobo pair will go down as the number of bets on that pair go up.
* The actual value of a winning bet is calculated based on the number of quills on the ticket and the odds for that chocobo pair winning.
* If your pair loses your ticket is worth 0 gil regardless of the odds.

[sea]Collecting Your Winnings[/sea]
* Collection of winnings is done by trading your chocobet ticket to any chocobet center NPC.
* If you lose a winning chocobet ticket or keep it for a week without trading it in you will forfeit any winnings.
* If you dont know if you have won or not just trade your ticket to a chocobet NPC to check.
* If there is maintenance during a race, said race will be declared "No Contest" and all racing fees and placed chocobets will be refunded.
1. Racing fee refunds can be recieved from trading Race Completion Certificate to the NPC at the Promenade.
2. Chocobet Refunds can be reieved from trading a Chocobet ticket to the NPC at the Chocobet Center.

I am unsure how to sign up to a race, i am affiliated with sandy but i get told by the npc for c4 that i am not eligable, i think it is due to not having the 10 chocobucks available but i'm not sure(earning them is not an issue), can anyone confirm that this is what is wrong please?

I guess that would make sense i just expected i could sign up to race first and pay the fee before participation, same as we did for the npc races.

I HATE this!!

Trust SE to put yet another stupid time limit on a casual pass-time.....

Yeah, I'll get 45 secs of fun every week...... Don't they realize this alone will kill the racing system?... No one is ever going to get to race other people unless they specifically make arrangements to race each other. The odds of meeting another player in the same race, same day... is next to none... I've got a better chance of Argus popping under my nose and giving me 3 PCCs.

Rot in hell, SE.

Yeah I was kinda dissapointed that SE made this only happen once per week it makes me a sad panda ; ; but I'm thinking they will change it in the future, at least thats what Im hoping. I can see once a game week maybe per bird but what about people with more than one bird to race they shouldn't have to wait any length of time to race different birds since supposedly the wait is so their bird can "rest" especially seeing in the first wave of races you only had to wait one RL day in between new races and you could race as many times as you wanted in the free runs. This system is definatly broken ><
Oh and to sign up for races... if you have never done them make sure you are registering for a C4 race and have 10k gil and 10 chocobucks to enter. If you dont then they will say you dont meet the requirments to enter a race. Also if you havn't registered a bird to race then they wont let you race it so be sure to trade a VCS registration card to the NPC outside the choco circuit that does the free runs and novice races.
Also as far as the chocobetting is concerned if you choose to bet on birds you can make alot of gil or you could lose alot too be sure to check the weather for the day and the weather that chocobos like because 10 to 1 the bird or birds that win will like the weather that it is. Like if its raining that day chose the birds with the best stats out of the ones that like rainy days. GL guys at least we can all have fun chocobetting more than once a week >.>

I can see why they would implement this concept. It keeps people from making a killing at the races over and over and over. But, an easy way to fix that, is to only allow a reward once a week, but still allow you to race your bird as often as you'd like!

It's not that hard, SE... Pull you heads out of the sand and THINK!

Not everyone cares only for numbers.... SOME people enjoy the events and games simply for what they are... a fun event.

[green] Hey, Joe, wanna race chocos?
Sorry, man, I raced mine two days ago...
-.-;
Hit me up next week!
Mary, you up for a race?
Can't Ram... I've already promised Arron that I'd race him tomorrow.
><;[/green]

Yeah... This is what will happen... mark my words.

Well SE did say they would quirk it a little just not adding anything new but I would like to be able to get a higher class race before I turn old and grey I mean come on... I could care less about the gil won I just like seeing my bird win and advance to the next level of races. Besides if SE was worried about people making too much money why would they implement chocobetting kinda defeats the purpose if you ask me. >< At any rate I got another 2 days before I can race again ; ; and yeah that whole "dude you want to race? Sorry I cant already did" already happened to me. lots of friends want to match their bird up to mine but its like trying to make a time/date for sky runs lol GL finding a time when all your friends are on and can race on the same day.
On another note chocobetting is fun but it seems kinda gay that they dont lower odds based on how many people bet on that pair more on how MUCH is bet on that pair. When the server first logged in I tried it out just to see... no one else in the zone but me. I bid 10gil per quill on one pair 50 on another and 100 on another. The odds went down considerably from just me betting on those pairs and even moreso the more I bet on a particular pair. Now if this was like horse racing and the likes it would be based on how MANY people bet on that pair not how MUCH was bet on them. Another way for SE to make it so you can't "hit the jackpot" with gil. This whole chocobetting/racing thing has just pissed me off and Im highly dissapointed in how they chose to put it in.
